We've been through this many times, but who are the people who "know what they are doing" in terms of running a major American TV wrestling promotion, and how many of them have done any better than Tony Khan in a three year period?

He has no background in running a successful business or booking a wrestling show. If he really wanted AEW to prosper he would be hands off and appoint people who know what they are doing into key roles. Sadly, its clear that this is his new play thing and he thinks he is doing a fantastic job.

We're three years into Dynamite. People can no longer say he's got no background or that it's a new play thing.

After spending about the same amount of time in a creative role, wasn't Russo being headhunted or even with WCW?

Not to takeover and run everything, but if I was looking for an EVP with some experience it would be Jeff Jarrett. One more for the business side than creative.

Of course we can, because it is. It’s his vanity project. The Russo comparison doesn’t work because it wasn’t Russo’s company and he didn’t install himself as the booker. He worked his way up the company for a number of years. Sniff didn’t.

"Know what they are doing" is very subjective. If Jim Ross, for example, was appointed head booker, clearly he'd "know what he was doing" - but he'd be catering to a specific taste. Having said that, if Khan was responsible for some of their better angles pre-ROH purchase, it does feel like he has run out of ideas; or that something is going wrong, preventing the quality of television that we saw prior at the start of this year. Perhaps there was a collaborative environment, which no longer exists? Perhaps Khan is indeed a creative genius, but is just burnt out? Perhaps we all underestimated the role Cody played behind the scenes?

Whatever the case, it's pretty clear that something is going wrong, and it's been sustained enough for it to feel like it's verging on being an existential threat for AEW. And when I say "existential threat", I don't necessarily mean AEW goes away for good; rather, AEW as we know it goes away, and the company is no longer the credible alternative that it's been.

Calling it a “plaything” is a disservice. If he wanted to “play” wrestling he’d be doing super indie shows that looked and felt like ecw and ROH that he can go fap over post show on Reddit. They are a very successful company in more respects than they are failing it. Yeah it’s a business in a market he was a fan of before it, but acting like it’s a half arsed hobby exercise isn’t given the credit the company deserves despite its faults creativity/ HR wise the last few months

Vince used to take finishers in strip clubs and he ran the most successful wrestling company of all time. There’s a time and a place for both. Going to a wedding is a normal thing for a boss

But all the wrestlers had an element of fear about Vince because they knew he was running things his way. He could get rid of them in a heartbeat, the sociopathic bastard. Nobody is scared of Tony Sniff, the boys know how much they can take advantage of him.
