Best music from computer games

More lifting from a game - I mean the actual soundtrack's in there - but this mix is one of the best I've heard in ages, been playing it for the last few days in work. I'm in love with that little mini-YouTube subculture of ambient drum and bass/jungle matching up so well with 90s/early 00s games. And few games ever made represent a simpler time for me than playing Unreal Tournament. The graphics in the original Unreal engine are still beautiful, to me. Crisp, colourful, such a mood. Looks like an N64 on steroids:

Those Ocean loaders were bangers. I used to have one as a ringtone on an old phone.

Rebirth finally started clicking for me last night - after getting off the Shinra Titanic - and then I was hit with this absolute walloper which has become one of my favourite pieces of video game music ever. 

I love these mad Japanese compositions that don't fit comfortably in any genre. There's a bit of synthpop ambient going on, half a dozen different bits that wouldn't be out of place in a goofy TV advert, it absolutely doesn't fit the environment it's meant to be accompanying, and yet in a weird way once it gets stuck in your head it kind of does and moves from being walking-pass-the-dance-machine-in-an-arcade noise to being oddly touching.

I remember when I played for the first time and got to that part and just stopping at the top of the mountain to listen to the track, it really is amazing.

Sable is a beautiful game with an incredible soundtrack by Japanese Breakfast but this track that plays at the end when you finally reach your goal is genuinely one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard:

Bit more of a deep cut, but the sub-boss music from Tekken 2 is brilliant. Love that rolling bassline and 90s cheese everywhere.

I know the original game and the score inside out but there's one or two things here which were genuinely new to me:

I'm going to play it again, aren't I. It'll feel like a joyous day off to go back to after all the pomp and bloat of Rebirth.

The Tekken 2 soundtrack is one of my go-to gym playlists. Such a good game. This one reminds me a lot of Hot Chip.

Tekken 2 just nails the aesthetic in both visuals and music, it's perfect and I've never clicked with later games even if they might be technically better quite as much. Namco were just cool as fuck in the mid 90's.

God, just hearing the music in the background of that video - just seconds of it - makes me want to replay VII. I’ll never stop loving that game.

Always loved this Amiga soundtrack, it's pretty simple but does a great atmospheric job. I even sampled it in my live shows.

The Huntdown soundtrack is amazing, I would happily sit and listen to it independent of playing the game.
