The final scores went into the top of the thread on Sunday night, and seven matches survived this time out. The table's been updated too, with joint second-highest scorers Rory and Shy Dad having an upward trajectory at the expense of Briefcase and Stinky. TildeGuy extends his lead over MVP RULZ at the summit, whilst I just about made it into double figures and ultimo picked late, so things might start getting interesting at the foot of the standings again as well.

The designated 'wildcard' fixture – since there were enough games to make it worthwhile – was match #6 where FC Hollywood came unstuck at Meadow Lane in front of over 9,000 fans (the goals are on BT Sport's YouTube channel if you fancy a laugh). Only Rory and I saw that one coming as everybody else clearly bought into the Wrexham hype. In case you're wondering, game #6 wasn't the clash at The New York Stadium because the randomiser only works after the fact, so it picked 6 out of 7 rather than out of 10.

Elsewhere, last-gasp away wins for Tottenham and Torquay proved fruitful, whereas Hull and Bolton coming unstuck on the road caught most people out. A score draw at Stamford Bridge and a stalemate in Durham were generally good for at least one-pointers.

So, instead of 20 results over Christmas and New Year we've only ended up with 11 in the end. We're gonna attempt a 15-strong card for the 'bumper' Cup round next and see how many of them last until the weekend...

The results went into the opening post on Sunday night, and the table has since been worked out as well. TildeGuy was bang average for a bumper round but still extends his lead by 2 points anyway. The gap at the other end has narrowed back to just a pair of points as well, whilst in the middle worst performer Rory moves down 2 places and joint top scorer Vegeta leaps up by a single spot. Briefcase and myself were also into double figures.

I was going to suspend the 'wildcard' rule for larger rounds but sod it, there have been too many occasions where no bonus points have been awarded, so we're keeping it. The randomly selected fixture out of 15 was #3, Leicester-Watford, which nobody quite got spot on but everybody at least guessed the result correctly apart from ultimo to claim a bonus each.

There were no matches off this time. Feel free to indulge me – or not – while I editorialise on that:

Spoiler

Almost quarter of a century ago, Middlesbrough were fined and handed a points deduction when Bryan Robson refused to fulfil a fixture at Blackburn Rovers with 6 fit players in his squad. It eventually resulted in their relegation that season. Every Premier League club today has more players available that that and yet they've been allowed to call games off at short notice with absolute impunity. Some teams should've been fined over a million quid (adjusting for inflation, and yes I'm aware that's a drop in the ocean to them these days) and been deducted at least 6 points by now if the rules from 1997 had been applied consistently to this season.

The weekend just gone shows what fun can be had when the FA put its foot down and insisted that The Show Must Go On in a way that the EPL and EFL refuse to. Managers continue to cite player safety, but the real threat to player safety will be having to fit a dozen matches into May, or even having to come back and finish the club competitions after the Nations League quadruple header (yes, really) in June, and then only have a 5-week gap before the 2022-23 campaign begins.

Let's not separate player safety from public safety, mind. I'm not sure if it's wise in the present circumstances that maskless full houses are permitted at grounds, even if it did make for a cracking atmosphere in many places. Although having said that, crowds at certain Championship stadia were easily able to practise social distancing this past weekend.

Progress for favoured sides Leicester City, Brentford, Brighton, Everton, Saints, AFC Bournemouth, West Ham and Norwich City all proved fruitful. Wimbledon, Reading, Blackburn and Arsenal all crashing out to underdogs, on the other hand, turned out to be tougher to foresee. An away win for Strasbourg in the Alsace-Lorraine derby plus two further draws in France caught most people out.

Special mention to Shy Dad for guessing two of those upsets beforehand. To be fair, he's probably the only person among us to have actually seen Kiddie play live in person this season!

A regular set of 10, including an attempt at a D2D following an extensive festive rest for that gimmick, will go live in the first post shortly...
