The cold open Saturday Night's Main Event everyone cuts a promo to camera before the main theme hits is this top shagger of a tune. Phwooor! Lovely stuff.

Sometimes I just like to put on these long compilations of Bobby Heenan & Gorilla Monsoon doing their schtick between the matches on Prime Time Wrestling. It's quite relaxing, I'm always particularly amused at the world Heenan creates for his character, even having a never seen secretary called Miss Betty. Their commentary is obviously well revered, but just them two on screen dicking about is wonderful.

Notable for Nick Patrick doing a leapfrog, Cornette taking a perfect back bump, and a run-in by another great NWA tag team.  Almost a perfect tag match.

Twice in this Ricky Morton does that beautiful step up into a headscissors, you never see that move any more for some reason.

Also - Stan Lane here looks EXACTLY like a slightly smaller Lex Luger.

 

 

What a perfect 10 minute tag team clinic. And that leapfrog/drop down by Nick Patrick topped it off!

Today I discovered that the 1st WCW theme of Big Van Vader turns into Mean Mark Callous' theme in the middle section and that it's one track split into two separate themes.

Kinda like Oz's WCW theme, from which they took a later part for the Survivor Series '92 intro and bumpers.

Undertaker v Road Warrior Animal.
As with all Undertaker matches from that time it was slow and largely action free, plus it was a house show match on that insane schedule back then so you can't really blame them.
I thought I'd post it as a nice little rare match from a house show.

Actually find that fascinating. Always enjoyed their interaction in the 92 Rumble. You do wonder what they're going to do for 6 minutes, but then the intros take up 3. It still manages to be boring in the middle. The start is exciting, love that hangman off the top rope. The hope sequence is good too and the finish is fine for a house show. No point a big babyface taking a tombstone unnecessarily. Still a fun little find.

I believe it was actually part of a King of the Ring tournament so they likely went short due to wrestling more than once.

Crazy thing is, I think this was a matinee show. If I remember rightly Bret wrestled 3 times and then worked later that night somewhere else too. Bloody bonkers.

EDIT - just checked and, yeah, Bret beat the Duke of Dorchester, Skinner and IRS at the afternoon show in Providence and then drove an hour and a half to Springfield for the evening show to work Ted DiBiase.

Undertaker went on to have double DQ with Sid after this match and then tagged with the Nasty Boys v Sid and LOD in Springfield.

Insane schedule on that concrete ring. No wonder they were all on drugs!

It’s no Silvervision opening but this brings back memories. The VHS opening we got on those first WCW tapes that came out in the UK. 

I still remembered the options for competition questions before they came up. Although this felt a bit like a trick question for me at the time considering Lex was actually in the WWF by the time I saw this.
