Paid Members PunkStep Posted February 22, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted February 22, 2021 I've just been out to do the weekly big shop and was listening to Annie Mac's show. She played Something About Us and so I cried in Asda.
SuperBacon
This is nice. I didn't even know this is how Dilla doing a Daft Punk remix came about. Rather than go after the sample, they asked him to do a track for them. Slum Village-Raise It Up (sampled a Bangalter solo track Extra Dry) Â

I've probably listened to the Encore of Alive 2007 more than any other track in my life. When Together finally drops, and then Music Sounds Better comes in after. Paid Members Jazzy G Posted March 2, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted March 2, 2021 Music Sounds Better with you really was one of those lightning in a bottle moments. Everything all came together in the right place at the right time. Thomas Bangalter, Alan Braxe and Benjamin Diamond all happened to be available to work on it. I hear it was the space of a week or a couple of days while Bangalter was working on Discovery. He's a heck of a producer. His dad produced some amazing stuff under the name Daniel Vangarde including, but not limited to, Ottawan's D.I.S.C.O. and Cuba by the Gibson Brothers. https://www.bide-et-musique.com/artist/1670.html Le Monde Fabuleux de Yamasuki is a great album he worked on. It was designed to try and help teach Japanese and one of the songs got adapted into Aie a Mwana, Bananarama's first single.
SuperBacon
This is a pure LADSLADSLADS SESH tune, but I don't care, its wicked. Can't wait to hear it on something with some proper bass. Â
Merzbow
I missed the 6 vinyl box-set for Acen's classic rave banger Trip II The Moon late last year, found myself a nice digital copy and it's bloody amazing. The remastering is spot on and there's a bunch of remixes I've never heard before, easily some of the best 90's breakbeat hardcore ever made. https://theravegeneration.co.uk/acens-trip-to-the-moon-2092-six-vinyl-boxset-now-available-to-pre-order/
Paid Members PunkStep Posted March 17, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted March 17, 2021 Nice one! My older sister used to play that and Orca's 4am (which sadly isn't on Spotify) a lot back in the day. I'm sure I had a remix of Trip II the Moon on vinyl years ago when her ex gave me his record collection, along with a couple of versions of Renegade Snares. Paid Members Jazzy G Posted March 18, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted March 18, 2021 Justin Bieber has found himself in trouble with Pedro Winter and the folks at Ed Banger recordings over the logo and merchandise for his forthcoming album, titled Justice and featuring a logo which involves a very stylised letter T. He's found himself on the receiving nd of a cease and desist order, which he's ignoring. Presumably he and his lawyers are going to plead ignorance, which will be nice when the emails he sent asking to be put in touch with the artists who designed Justice's logo for a "project" for him are given as evidence. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/justice-file-cease-and-desist-letter-against-justin-bieber-new-album-merch-1143215/

Also, the biggest use of the word "mark" in an article since I read something by Cornette.
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted March 18, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted March 18, 2021 Ed Banger have taken on the "big names" over stuff before as well. It's the reason Breakbot has a songwriting credit on Treasure by Bruno Mars.
SuperBacon
Oh I dont doubt they'll win, as like the article says, theres evidence they tried to engage with the designer before obviously just thinking "Fuck it we'll do it ourselves". But to my untrained eye, there is very little similarity between their logo and what his team have come up with. Just block letters with a slightly big T.
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted March 18, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted March 18, 2021 (edited) It's the idea behind the slightly large cross-like T, especially as the T in the word Justice that they're taking issue with. Like the article says, when the logo first appeared loads of people thought Justice were working with Bieber on this and asked about it in comment sections and across social media, so it's out in the open. It isn't like they tried to slip it under the RADAR and then somebody was browsing their record collection and had a Eureka moment, it very much feels like they underestimated Justice's popularity and thought they'd get away with it because they're not the hugest of bands. Trying this in the aftermath of the Daft Punk retirement where there's been a marked gravitation of people toward Justice as the heirs apparent of French Touch, or at least pretenders to the throne is either a really well thought out strategy that's backfired, or very badly timed.
