Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted March 7, 2019 Author Paid Members Share Posted March 7, 2019 How sweet is this? Can’t help but be happy for Usman.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted March 7, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted March 7, 2019 Usman arrived on Saturday night. I was the feeling same as pretty much everyone else before Saturday night, a little indifferent toward him, never not overly exciting to watch and not that interesting to listen too, but something just clicked at 235. Aside from the performance he just looked and acted like a star, it was great stuff.
David
I have a feeling that Covington will beat him. He's already winning the mind games battle at this early stage from what I've seen.
Brewster McCloud
I'm usually against fighters bringing their kids to the show - what happens if mommy or daddy gets fucked up? But, Usman's celebration was quite sweet, even if his daughter looked rather bewildered. I'm looking forward to seeing Covington fight again, very underrated fellow.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted March 8, 2019 Author Paid Members Share Posted March 8, 2019 Covington is arse. I hope Usman dominates him to a 50-40 shutout with 5x10-8 rounds. But I’ll give Covington his due as a fighter. He might well beat Usman. He’s been beating guys in a similar way to Usman his last few fights and has similar strengths. He puts on a pace that very, very few will be able to deal with. And, like David says, if he’s possibly starting to get under Usman’s skin already and the fight hasn’t even been announced yet, who knows what happens when the cage door shuts. I’m 50/50 on that fight. I hope Usman completely schools him though. I don’t even care if it’s boring, if he shuts him down en route to a clear decision then I’ll be happy enough.
David
I was kinda on the fence with Covington, but now that he's pissing off Caesar I'm hoping he wins the belt, just to piss him off.

David
Just now, Carbomb said: Nah, Askren for me. Askren won't be getting a shot any time soon though, so Covington is the next best thing. His promo game is shit, and his "persona" is so forced and fake it's cringeworthy at times, but he does have the ability to annoy people. So long as he's annoying Dana I'm rooting for the lad. Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted March 8, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted March 8, 2019 Colby is a goof. That's his charm; a bit like T-Ferg. He's pure cringe whenever he tries to give it a go.

David
Thing is, the schtick he uses does a good job of distracting people away from the fact that he's an NCAA Div 1 wrestler with a 15-1 record. The guy is no joke, despite him hamming it up like a classic wrestling heel a lot of the time. I'd go as far as saying that his UFC resume is better than Usman's pre-title fight. Both guys have beaten RDA and Maia, while Usman has beaten Emil-Webber Meek, Sergio Moraes, Sean Strickland. Colby has beaten Dong Hyun Kim, Bryan Barberena and Mike Pyle. The difference between the two could be how they approach the fight mentally, and Covington has been under Usman's skin for a while now.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted March 9, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted March 9, 2019 yeh i think people are forgetting what Covington can do in the cage. I wasnt sold on the guy until he beat RDA, looked great that night. Covington has won me over in a 'love to hate him' kind of way. The schtick is obviously a gimmick and he's hamming it up but hes so committed to it i cant help but be won over. Kayfabe is alive.

jimufctna24
Covington's shtick is tedious. It doesn't even have the "it's that shit, it's sort of funny" quality that Rothwell and Ortiz's pratfalls have. It's not entirely an act either. Sure he hams it up, but he's meant to be a grade-A cunt regardless. Nevertheless, I will give him his due. I did laugh when he filmed Dana at the casino last weekend. He's also a top welterweight. Even if I do think that Usman would beat him.
David
Could you imagine the tears in the MMA community if Colby beats Marty and Askren absolutely schools Lawler in a rematch? It would be all kinds of awesome.
