stevieg1980 Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 No love for Hudson Hawk? Only if you swing on a star.
Paid Members Thunderplex Posted December 8, 2016 Paid Members Posted December 8, 2016 Saw Hudson Hawk at the cinema and loved it. No idea why it was hated so much.
Mr.E Posted December 9, 2016 Author Posted December 9, 2016 What am I voting on, best of all time or best of 2016? I'm confused and possibly haven't read the thread fully. It'll be "of all time" , Tommy
Paid Members WeeAl Posted December 9, 2016 Paid Members Posted December 9, 2016 Wasn't it favourite films the last time, not a 'best of' list? Are we doing the same this time then? It's one of the best threads we've had on here, so best of luck Mr.E!
Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted December 9, 2016 Paid Members Posted December 9, 2016 Â What am I voting on, best of all time or best of 2016? I'm confused and possibly haven't read the thread fully. It'll be "of all time" , Tommy I strongly suggest you narrow it down somehow, choose a genre or period or something, any film ever is way too broad for something like this that'll only get 20 entries, top 50 as well, bloody hell.
Mr.E Posted December 9, 2016 Author Posted December 9, 2016 Well, you know "aim high" and all that. To be fair it's pending votes, if we get enough it'll be top 50, if not it'll be less. If we don't get enough votes overall, I won't do it hah. And yep Weeal, it'll be your personal favourite movies. Â Feel free to do a vote, I'd like to give this a go, so the more votes the better
Moderators PowerButchi Posted December 10, 2016 Moderators Posted December 10, 2016 If people vote even the once you'll do something with them, or you've wasted people's time. With running a Top whatever on here comes great responsibility.
Paid Members Kaz Hayashi Posted December 10, 2016 Paid Members Posted December 10, 2016 I honestly don't see the point in doing of all time, seriously what's the point? It's already been done. Why not just do the last 4 years if you're set on doing it. I've just had a look back at movie releases since mid 2012, I was actually pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a majority of dross, which there was, but a considerable amount of really good stuff too.
Mr.E Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 Well I currently have enough votes for a top ten...with 1 vote. Â The long and short of it is this: I want to give this a go and have a laugh. If you want to vote, do so. If you do t want to/don't see the point, then that's fine as well and we'll just leave it out.
Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted December 11, 2016 Awards Moderator Posted December 11, 2016 Give me a chance, my first proper day off of the week is tomorrow, I haven't had chance!
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted December 12, 2016 Moderators Posted December 12, 2016 You don't have time for this nonsense HG! You've got awards to run, and more importantly I will be needing your annual rundown of all the films you saw in the year and your ranking. It's become a tradition!
Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted December 12, 2016 Awards Moderator Posted December 12, 2016 You'll get them, don't you worry!
Mr.E Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 Morning!  As predicted this didn't go down well, which is on me for not hyping the thread or whatever, and picking something that many didn't think needed updating or doing again, since the last list in 2012.  I didn't get many votes in at all. In fact I only received a grand total of....3 . (Thanks to HG, Punkstep and Boycie for your votes) .With that being said, as such I can't really do a proper countdown as we have 30 movies, all tying for 1st - 10th place, and not enough for a top 50 either hah.  Stats:  Of all movies voted for - 2 were made in the 1950's, 4 came from the 1970's 4 are 80's movies 8 came out in the 90's 8 came out in 2000 - 2010 and 4 came within the last 6 years  9 movies made it onto the last list, meaning this time around we had nominations for 21 new entries.  Of the 30 films nominated, only 4 would have been post 2012, meaning not a lot of "new" stuff stood out for those that voted.   What films were voted for and what was said about them:  12 Angry Men "It's so compelling, no matter how many times I watch it, I still get caught up in the drama and hope they reach the right verdict." - HG  Almost Famous "The defining film of my teenage years. My friends and I just loved this film. Such good music!" - HG  American Psycho [Punksteps Number 1 vote]  Brain Dead "Peter Jackson's finest hour! Blood! Gore! Humour! Why can't Jackson make more films like this?  ‎From the custard scene to the vicar who 'kicks arse for the Lord' to the zombie baby to the lawnmower scene at the end, this is a non-stop thrill ride. " - Boycie  Caligula "Completely bonkers and admittedly a bloody mess but features a superb performance from Malcolm McDowell as the perfectly insane Roman emporer. ‎Scenes of pornography and bloody violence thrown in for good measure make this an enjoyable guilty pleasure. " - Boycie  Cannibal Holocaust - [boycie's Number 1] "The mother of all video nasties! Unlike most of the films that were prosecuted in that era, which were tame as fuck, this is the one that lived up to the hype. Some seemingly 'nice' film students venture into the amazon to shoot a documentary about the native tribes and never return home, which prompts a search party to go and try to locate them. Robert Kerman and Co uncover what really went down in a film that is beautifully made and despite the subject matter, you can't deny it's influence" - Boycie  Ghostbusters (1984)  Glengarry Glen Ross  Goodfellas  Human Traffic  Island of Death "The most insane film I've ever seen, I fell in love with it when I first saw it on the Horror Channel. It turns the conventional 'couple holiday in the wrong area' concept on its head in the sense that it's the couple that the locals should worry about rather than the other way round. The goat-fucking scene is the one that sticks in most peoples minds. A surprisingly well-made if utterly depraved film." - Boycie  Jurassic Park "I loved dinosaurs when I was little, this film brought dinosaurs to life. Still Spielberg's best" - HG  Lord of the Rings (Trilogy) "Again I'm going collectively, cheating, but having to pick one, I'd go with Fellowship." - HG  Monty Python & the Holy Grail  Pulp Fiction  Rise of the Footsoldier "Really good storytelling here chronicling the rise of Carlton Leach from football hooligan to underworld kingpin. Ricci Harnett does a commendable job of portraying Leach and the supporting cast more than hold-up their end. Avoid Craig Fairbrass is you see him in a restaurant" - Boycie  Rocky IV  Sausage Party "I thought I\\'d include a film from this year and it could only be this one. When I saw it at the cinema, I was in stitches from start to finish. Crude, obscene and with a surprisingly deep and meaningful storyline. The evil Douche is one of the all time great characters." - Boycie  Scarface (1983)  Scott Pilgrim Vs The World "The defining film of my early 20s. It's one one I could just watch again and again and enjoy just as much each time." - HG  Snatch "Violent, funny and never a dull moment. The dialogue is among the best ever. Brad Pitt as the pikey boxer, Dennis Farina as the American who\\'ll do anything for a diamond and of course the legendary Brick Top. An absolute masterpiece. How Guy Richie could follow this with the beyond awful Revolver is anyone\\'s guess." - Boycie  Star Wars (franchise) - [HG's top pick] "I'm speaking collectively, which is cheating. But if I had to pick it would be Episode IV/A New Hope/the original. I could just watch it and watch it and if there's any film I could virtually recite by heart, it would be this. It's been with me for as long as I can remember." - HG  Strangers on a Train "My favourite Hitchcock movie, good performances all round, especially from Farley Granger as the victim of the piece and Robert Walker as the deranged antagonist Bruno Anthony. Still holds up as a classic to this day. " - Boycie  The Beach  The Dark Knight "Might get scoffed at on here, but it's one of those films where if I see it's on, I'll just get sucked in and end up watching the whole thing, every time." HG  The Human Centipede III "Admittedly not what you'd call a 'good' film but I've grown immensely fond of it since seeing it, much to my flatmates annoyance. Tom Six goes in a different direction here by adding more comedy and making it all as over the top as possible. Dieter Laser steals the show as the maniacal Bill Boss. Eric Roberts is the governor. Robert Lasardo gets attached mouth to anus to someone with crohns disease. What\'s not to like?‎" - Boycie  Totall Recall (1990) "Had to include a Schwarzenegger movie. One of my favourites growing up, always had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Arnie taking on bad guys on Mars is always good fun (especially when one of the bad guys is Michael Ironside). Plus Sharon Stone is hot as hell in this." - Boycie  Toy Story  What We Do In The Shadows "If the other half and I were to pick a film to watch together, it'd probably be this one. Hilarious." - HG  Wolf of Wall Street (2013)  Thanks again to those that voted, didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped, but it's cool hah. Cheers!
