Edgar's footwork is sooo good I'd like to think he'll be able to keep it standing.

Here's a question....Last night I saw that Ariel Helwani tweeted something along the lines of 'I know it's all part of the promo but surprised how many fighters are picking Weidman'. Is AH saying that the picks we see other fighters give on UFC programming are fed to them or 'selectively aired'? Has there ever been a case when all the fighters asked on TV have all picked the same guy?

I haven't seen any predictions on UFC programming yet but MMAMania did a pros pick thing the other week for this;

Lyoto Machida: No pick

Fabricio Werdum: Silva by knockout

Cisco Rivera: Silva by knockout

Mark Munoz: No pick

Tom Watson: Silva by experience

Matt Mitrione: No pick

Erik Paulson: Silva by knockout

Nam Pham: Weidman by finish

Random beard guy: Weidman by knockout

Uriah Hall: No pick

Greg Jackson: No pick

Lot of fence sitters but Silva wins 4-2 there. Interesting that Silva's bezzie mate Lyoto didn't pick a winner.

There must have been cases where everyone picked the same guy. Maybe Cain vs Bigfoot 2 or Jones vs Sonnen. Then again you always get one or two guys picking their teammates/countrymen regardless of how little chance they actually have of winning.

Yeah, I'd say the MMAMania article kind of backs Ariel up in a way. If MMA sites are asking guys to pick a winner and most are picking Silva. Then on UFC's own programming they're all picking Weidman? Hmmm. It does make you think are they being fed what to say doesn't it. Or yeah, more likely selectively aired to give the impression Weidman is even more a threat. What programming is Ariel referring to? UFC Tonight?

The tweet just links to an MMAFighting.com piece titled UFC's Biggest stars predict a Weidman Win Over Silva. There's a video there but I can't view at work.

As you rightly said, it's probably 'selective airing' to make fights seem closer. I'd imagine that in Vegas these promo vids run ad nauseum & it's better for the casino's if more people are betting on both fighters?

Just watched it. It's basically two minutes of everyone on their knees, mouths open, lapping at Weidman's cock. Verbally of course, not literally. Sonnen, Rashad, GSP, Maynard and Cormier unsurprisingly backing the wrestler. With Sonnen going as far as to say - "when I was in that division and Joe Silva called, I was praying he wouldn't say 'you've got Chris Weidman'" - it's a 100% Weidman hype piece. I guess they figured Weidman isn't talking enough so they're doing it for him.

Still got Silva by KO.

The casuals don't know Weidman from Joe Blow, so UFC need to get recognizable names on board to tout him as the next big thing. With the Munoz fight, it was a year ago, and it was on Fuel, which I still see tons of fans whinging about not having. For some fans, this'll be Anderson vs. Some Fucker. We all remember Some Fucker from his UFC debut against Mousasi, right?

Oh how i loved 'some fucker'. That was a genius little addition to the thread from Wand.

Anyway, Countdown show is now up.

Silva/Weidman segment is very Weidman heavy. Personally, there's absolutely nothing wrong it. Anderson has notoriously been difficult to get anything from him when it comes to the media, and add to the fact it's subtitled you have another reason for using Weidman a bit more. However, more importantly as Shane O says, the UFC needs to build this guy up into a viable challenger in the eyes of the general UFC fan.

There's a great segment with Weidman chronicling the hurricane that hit NY last year using his mobile phone and definitely adds to his character in what he's gone through.

I've got to admit, even I'm starting to buy into the Weidman hype. Personally, I think the hype is warranted but I still can't pick a winner come Sunday morning.

They definitely are right to hype him. They have to, as Shane says, he's been out of action a whole year now so it's important that they remind everyone just what all the fuss was about with him. I guess it's at the stage with Anderson now where there's not much more you can say about him. You can just play a highlight reel of his finshes back to back with no words and even someone who's never seen him before will know he's some kind of ninja/alien/video game character come to life. There isn't really words that can explain it better than the actual footage. Weidman needs the hype job. He hasn't been around long, doesn't talk a great game, doesn't look particularly impressive physically and he's been off the scene 12 months.

Actually the layoff is something that people might be overlooking. Could that be a factor? I don't care how hard you train, fighting the best fighter in MMA when you're coming off a 12 month layoff isn't ideal is it?

I can see why people would pick Weidman, I'm just slightly surprised how big his bandwagon has got over the last few months.

Belfort's already angling for the winner. But if Weidman wins, Dana's already said Anderson gets a rematch. If Anderson wins in his usual fashion, then Silva vs Belfort 2 could well be next. Unless everyone finally agrees to get one of these superfights on.

That was a serious hype job on Weidman in that video. I guess seeing how Sonnen took Silva down in their 2 fights and the fact Weidman has similar wrestling, but much better submission skills I can see why some think he's a serious threat to Silva's dominance at 185lbs. I still even with all the hype and comments from some of the top fighters on the planet believe that Silva is too good and will win by TKO in round 2 or before.

I didn't realise how stacked this card was till I just took a peek at the first page, should be a great event all round.

The big issue for Weidman against Silva isn't not having Serra in his corner Sat night. I think Anderson takes him out in the 2nd.

That's interesting! What's the reason why Snake? I'm not up to speed on news on Serra.

Here's the Serra story http://www.mmafighting.com/2013/6/25/44623...itle-challenger

The only thing in my mind I can liken them too is shields after his Dad died, he just wasn't himself as his most depended on voice in his ear not there, I think it will really knock his confidence it shouldn't be underestimated just how much Serra makes up Weidmans game.

What has annoyed me in the build up to this fight is how biased Ariel Helwani has been towards Weidman, he's honestly done everything bar sucking him off live on air whilst wearing a Team Serra-Longo condom. Journalists are meant to be unbiased and present things on an even playing field but the man crush he has on him is baffling, Bisping had it spot on.

Helwani has gone shit since becoming a UFC yes man.

I agree

Despite still picking Silva, I am not confident with my pick. The countdown show did a decent job of hyping Weidman, the Rogan comments really helped Weidman appear a legit threat.
