Without giving too much away...The rebranding of Suicide has to be the most pointless thing I have seen in a long time

Well no, it makes plenty of sense, marketing-wise. Remember, when they brought his figure out, they couldn't even stick his name on it, due to the obvious connotations.

Personally, I think the entire angle was handled stupidly

Spoilers for last night's IMPACT on challenge

<-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

They unmask the bloke, tell everyone his name, have him talking to Bully Ray, then put him back under the hood and he's a masked man of mystery agan, except his a Manc, er Manik.

If they were going to change him, at least take the mask off.

A completely new gimmick would have been a lot better, or even just as plain TJ Perkins for a little while and let him develop a character. This whole thing could have also been used as an excuse to drop the triple threat rule as well

The main event was brilliant and had me on the edge of my seat, right up until the end where I thought the wrong man won. They should put the World title on Aries and keep him tweener until the someone wins the BFG series, with him going full blown face or heel depending on who wins.

Over all I thought yet again Impact was a great show, miles ahead of WWE on a lot of things and over all more enjoyable.

Pragmatic stuff from Joey Ryan there, sounds like he understands the game he's in.

"PG Sux n Cena sux" attitude era clingers

That's right, I've been really vocal on this forum about my hated of Cena

Ditto, but The King's being intentionally facetious there, and I can't really be arsed to argue the semantics of it. I think the truth of the matter for me now is I don't really care enough about wrestling to invest that much time in it anymore, and I'm over the stage of getting annoyed about blown pushes or angles that don't really go anywhere. I'm probably a casual fan more than anything else now - I like wrestling as an easy watch that I can dip in and out of, but I'm not going to be spending any money on t-shirts or PPVs or live tickets anytime soon. The only people I really give a toss about in WWE are the ones who turn up for a month or so around Wrestlemania and then fuck off again, but with TNA, I can see the people I liked when I was a bigger fan of wrestling most weeks, and I can reasonably work out what's happening without having to swot up on months of Youtube videos or NXT highlights. So TNA suits what I'm after these days, but if most of the fanbase are like me, I can see why it might not be that profitable.

So essentially exactly what they did last year with him to an extent?

I feel the right man won, but I have a hope of Sabin winning the belt and Shelley returning to feud. Both seem highly unlikely to happen though.

Yeah, that's me exactly. I'm barely even a fan now, can't be bothered to download or spend time watching stuff on youtube, so Impact is on telly, is good fun, and I watch it. And as you say, I see familiar faces in TNA from my WWE fanboy days, plus some new talent.

And, you'd think, that would be a fairly chunky market in the US.

Funny thing is, the Aces and Eight's Storyline for its flaws, did pique my curiosity about Sons of Anarchy, I'm up to the third season on Netflix.

With the sympathetic portrayal of the club in episodes that I've seen, would it not have made more sense to have the Aces and 8's as tweeners and the Mafia as the heels?

Then again, Heel Bully Ray is ace, and they probably only decided to bring the mafia back on the morning of the first TV taping or summat.

No because tweeners never work in wrestling and the Aces and 8s aren't likable. Who's going to cheer Wes and Garrett over Sting and Angle?

As its played out, fair point, but if they really wanted to cash in on SOA they could have made the A8s a tad more likable from the start.

You haven't, but like Magnum (who is more vocal about Cena than you are), you have[/b] posted about how you've gone off WWE over the last few years and like TNA because it's more like the attitude era, haven't you? My point is that the only niche TNA really ticks these days is the likes of you guys who aren't fussed about the proper wrestling in 2013 but are fine casually watching a show that's basically a tribute/attempt to create what wrestling was like in the glory days.

I don't think it is that chunky a market, most people in their thirties who used to watch Raw/Nitro every week have either grown out of wrestling or are hardcore loser fans like me. You're in a kind of no man's land. If you or Magnum miss an episode of Impact, you're not going to have a panic attack like I am if I miss Raw, or DearlyBelovedDexter if he misses whatever ROH do now the iPPVs are dead. And by its casual nature, the niche you're in isn't a niche that spends much money on wrestling... And sadly for TNA, it's a market that is probably more likely to buy WrestleMania when the big names come back than it is to buy a TNA ticket or pay-per-view. Plus in the US, I don't think Impact is any easier to watch than Raw.

I thought that was a very good episode this week. What rating did it get?

The Main Event was brilliant, I thought and the crowd were great for it. My favourite part of the episode was the Aces and Eights coming out escorted by the Nevada police, I thought it looked cool as fuck. Bad Influence are brilliant, Gunner/Storm have a great double team finisher, Bro Mans are a good combination and Mickie James is much more entertaining.

But I have to say, fuck me.. James Storm has never been particularly in shape but this week he had the body of Tommy Dreamer.

The ratings would seem to back your assertion, I suppose.

I reckon the WWE in 2013 would be right up my street, but the period 2006 to last year has just eroded my enthusiasm and habit. The last time I tried watching RAW on a weekly basis, it seemed to be endless Randy Orton v DiBiase matches. Plus, if I'm completely honest, the spectre of Chris Benoit still hangs over the WWE for me, I can't shake it.

That's pretty much a carbon copy of how I look at it. Although I wouldn't go as far as to say that i'm a casual fan, as I still spend plenty of time watching shoot interviews and classic stuff, and do go to the once a year TNA show in Manchester.

But otherwise, I couldn't have put it better myself.

The only Raw's I've looked forward to and watched properly over the past 2 years are Raw 1000 and the old-school ones.

I know TNA aren't on WWE's level, but whatever TNA are doing doesn't mean it's not 'proper wrestling'. Despite it being a very distant number two, it's still part of the scene.

PTW is/was part of the scene as well. TNA is leagues ahead of that, but it's still not even in the same "universe" as the real show. Wrestling is a one-horse race. Everything else, at best, is to WWE as the CFL is to the NFL.

The re-naming of the character makes a lot of sense but the way they did it (show him unmasked and then just have Hogan announce that he's changed his name) didn't make any sense.

That's the point I was making so yes

Yeah I understand to shift Action figures ect that need to change his name, but we know who is under the mask so now the mask is pointless.

Would have been better to bring in a new masked character

I dont get why they had to rename Suicide. Just bring in a new masked character and get rid of Suicide altogether. The whole outfit on him looks small time. They should have designed a new outfit and put it on TJ Perkins and debuted him. Now he's just Suicide with a new name. The new Suicide has got off to a bad start because we all know he used to be Suicide. You could have repackaged an old act and marketed him as a new wrestler and it would have been a fresh worker to mess about in the X Division. It was such a mad way to get around changing his name.
