Sat 28th December, Challenge appears to be showing the first ever TNA 2 hour PPV!

Good news for us Cheex fans. Also featuring the penis tag team THe Johnsons, and Malice, who would have been a star if he hadn't died.

Many a time I have eyed up a torrent of every weekly PPV just to see how bad they were but just can't bring myself to waste the bandwidth.

Were they really as bad as people say?

They were awful, but at times fantastic in a 'What the fuck?' kind of way and the X-Division stuff with Ki/Styles/Lynn. Remember these gentlemen?

Jeff Jarrett quits now!!

On December 22nd, 2013 I officially resigned from TNA Entertainment. Thanks to everyone involved for all the fantastic memories! #grateful

Dixie Carter (via the TNA website): "On behalf of TNA, we would like to thank Jeff for his contributions to the Company. We wish him the very best and look forward to his continued participation as an investor in TNA Wrestling."

So, he still owns a piece of the company but is simply no longer working there?

If Dixie is telling the truth, the whole truth, et al, then yeah.

I got a souvenir programme at this year's show and noted there are a pawfull of investors, including JJ. Maybe it will almost be like a silent partner - sit back and let the others do the work and enjoy the dividends . . . . if the company makes money.

I'm actually looking forwatd to the copious nostalgia binge of daily non-dull TNA. Does anyone remember when Bravo went mad for the summer and just showed Impacts every morning for like four months? Am I right in saying this was them finally catching up with a ridiculous air delay? This was during my uni years where I had aeons of time to kill between terms, and this was like prime Nash/Steiner/MEM-era Impact. I distinctly remember Chris Harris smashing James Storm with a bottle and blinding him. It was also followed by MONSTER JAM.

Scott Steiner and monster trucks for breakfast. Halcyon days.

I just happened to flick over to Challenge for the last half hour of one of those One Night Only PPV's. Was some sort of tag tournament with the Dudleys vs Roode/Aries in the final, but my god was it depressing to watch. It was one of the final shows filmed in the old Impact Zone but the crowd turnout was so poor they turned all the lights off so you could only see about five rows of people. The entire main event was met with complete silence to the point you could hear individual fans shouting things. Then hilariously the second the main event finished pretty much the entire crowd got up and started legging it towards the exits as Taz tried to cover for by saying there was a party backstage. They quickly cut to a highlight video of the show which made me VERY glad I only saw the last half hour. The buyrates for these things in the US must be horrendous. Hundreds at best, surely?

The aforementioned Tag Team Tourney recorded yesterday, presumably as because I have Impact series linked. Thought I'd flick through it in FF to pass the time before I need to head out for football. Not 5 minutes in, the "let's find something to pad for time" video highlight package of Generation Me is set to the Hardy Boyz most famous theme. Brilliant.

CTX - I think hundreds is generous. After the first couple tanked completely, one was pulled by the PPV operators at short notice and replaced with soft porn. I'm not sure any of the others have even been made available over there.

EDIT : and now the Hot Shots are coming out to The Naturals music. Because 50% right ain't bad for TNA.

They're releasing these PPVs on DVD! Why? Who the hell is ever going to want to buy these lifeless events of no consequence. All these events have been absolutely dead inside and outside the ring. I feel they could at least include the corresponding faux-PPV Impacts (Turning Point, Final Resolution etc.) on a second disc because I highly doubt those will ever see a full release. The fact they have a gaping chasm of documented storyline (excluding BFG and Lockdown), but have all of these DVDs is pretty shocking.

Really, none of these things matter in the TNA microcosm, the selling point of these PPVs are that they feature good wrestling matches, isn't it? Well that's useless, because we have good wrestling matches coming out of our ears, and the dead crowd does nothing for this event.

I think they would probably do better if they just chucked out a "Joe vs. Angle" PPV where they show their various PPV matches with some videos in between telling the story or just had a Best Of PPV with some talking heads in between. People would probably be more likely to buy it, much like if they released it as a DVD.

They could have done some inter promotional events with other companies and had all the matches as TNA guys versus their equivalent from another promotion. At least that would explain why these events have nothing to do with current storylines. They could have been filmed all over the world giving each event a different look and better crowd. To pad it out they could have even done stuff like TNA vs ECW/WCW/WWF attitude era guys (without using the names.)

Has anyone seen Impact yet? Watch the Bully Ray interview. He's cutting a promo on Brooke Tessmacher and then all of a sudden (as the promo turns serious) TNA pipe in some scary music over the top. How shit is this? He was just talking away and then "whaaa-whaaa-whaaa-woooooooo" like the music when Vigo comes out of the painting on Ghostbusters II. I remember WWE used to play background music during long solo promos on Smackdown (like Kane sitting down and the fans in the arena can hear it), but this shit? Its a confrontation between two people set to a soundtrack. Utter shit. Not as bad as the time when time slowed down and Jeff Hardy began narrating life as it happened, but still bad. I mean, TVs are taped in advance these days. They got weeks to make these shows look good in post production.
