wordsfromlee
That track was a staple of our house party days back when it first came out! Was always a big fan of Rox’s and Anplify Dot is now a 1xtra DJ and seems toga be started doing the rounds in panel shows like 8 Out of 10 Cats.

I represent a lot of dancers, many of whom specialise in hip-hop, K.R.U.M.P., popping, locking, and anything else you might find on a dance battle circuit. The older of my younger sisters is one of them, and several years ago, she was in a street-dance troupe called Boadicea who got on Got 2 Dance and did quite well. They did a dance video in 2012 for a track by producer Mikey J, which helped raise the troupe's profile, featuring several women MCs. What I didn't know was that Lady Leshurr was on it! Also some other names you guys would be more familiar with: Amplify Dot, Baby Blue, Lioness, RoxXxan, and Mz Bratt. Anyway, here's the dance video:  and here's the original music video:   Thats very cool. My ex is a dancer/former teacher, specialising in hip hop (should see my 8yos locking skills ) and she loved Boadicea so will share with her too. Such a rich and rewarding listen.

I’ve mentioned his name to a few people and they are all like “Do you mean Asap Rocky “?  Daylight and 9-5’ers anthem i love.  What do you think of Spirit World Field guide ?

I think it's his most joyous album ever, and he seems to be getting better as a songwriter with age and experience. I've mentioned it before in this thread, but he is a very dense rapper and someone that rewards multiple listens and zoning out on everything apart from the music. If you haven't heard it, I'd give his Bushwick (decent film) soundtrack a listen too. It works really well with the movie, and highlights just what a great producer and musician he is. I am hoping to do something for the 20th anniversary of Labor Days in September, so if it comes off I will post it up in here.

Not sure if he has any on the go, but his The Uncluded album with Kimya Dawson is excellent. Dunno what happened between them as they fell out a few years back (I can well imagine hes not the easiest person to collaborate with) but its superb and the most original partnership hes had IMO. Hes also done some stuff with Homeboy Sandman under the Lice guise which is OK, and they released this DOOM tribute a few months back so I imagine there will be new stuff. I also really enjoyed his appearance on the latest Felt album. (Which is great but then I'm also a huge Slug/Atmosphere fan) Which sort of brings things full circle for me as this is the first song of his I ever heard, ripped off of Audio Galaxy (RIP) Float is brilliant as well if you've never heard it. Dunno what he'll do next. Looking at his tweets, he seems more concerned with parting marks with their money for Aesop Rock branded Swiss Army knives and hot sauce! 😂
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted March 18, 2021 Author Moderators Share Posted March 18, 2021 I listened to Labor Days for the first time in over 10 years yesterday thanks to you lot. It was a nice walk down memory lane and it has stood the test of time better than much of the other unnecessarily verbose backpack rap of its time. I revisited a lot of that late 90s/early 00s rap (Anticon basically) last year (probably some in this thread) and yeah, some of its aged terribly. Sole, Bottle Of Humans aside, being the worst offender. But it did remind me of when El P absolutely destroyed him with that Linda Tripp tune. Which was everything to 15 year old me. SuperBacon
Yes, there is ANOTHER Griselda release, Benny The Butcher - The Plugs I Met 2. Don't worry, it's only 9 tracks long. Nah, it's REALLY good. Benny is a fucking excellent rapper, and the production (whilst I find Harry Fraud a bit Alchemist-lite) fits him incredibly well and bumps along hard. I'm a big fan of rappers using the same producer for a whole album. It makes things a lot more cohesive and complete. Benny chats his usual guns and coke rap, but works best when he gets a bit introspective on No Instructions. "Shit, so don't look at me like I'm perfect, Y'all worship these rap ni**as, turned this shit to a circus" It's the standout track on the album. Fat Joe turns up and delivers one of the worst guest appearances I have ever heard, managing to name check Harvey Weinstein, the Wuhan virus (ffs) and "moving keys like a janitor" in 2021. I love a bit of early Joe, but I can rap a better verse than that. Also, not a big fan of Benny saying "My safe stuffed like a Jew wallet" but if I was to stop listening to rappers who said ignorant shit, it would be a very short list left. I see there's a new Statik Selektah thing out as well with Kota The Friend (a name I don't think I've ever heard) but haven't had time to check it out yet. Did hear this the other day though, and again, a name that has escaped me, but really enjoyed it. Dude's flow is quite El-P ish but he's nice. wordsfromlee
One of my all time favourite producers, L'Orange, has a new collab record coming out with Namir Blade and they've released the first single. I've never heard of Namir before but I quite like it. He has a very distinctive sound. I'm looking forward to hearing the full album.
