I'm in Philadelphia right now with my fiancee. I was supposed to fly out on Tuesday but after the travel advisory went out on Friday, Suz persisted that I take the option to change my flight so I instead flew out yesterday. That was the right move as todays and tomorrows flights have been cancelled.

Philly International has had no flights in or out at all today, SEPTA has suspended all buses and trolleys (trams), bridges to Jersey and the interstates have all been closed.

So far where I am there's been a lot of rain and heavy winds, but we've still got a few hours to go before the real strength of the hurricane gets to us.

This is horrible. I've got an Aunt and some cousins in Canada who I'm really close to (yeah not georgraphically), luckily they're in Vancouver which is way to the west of where all the shit's going down. So they're out of the danger zone at least. But they've got a lot of friends in the New York/New Jersey area, some who I've met and they were the nicest people you could meet and were really good to me and my sister when we went for the first time. So I'm hoping they're OK. Hope you and your fiancee stay safe coby.

New Jack tells his Sandy story (off his Facebook)

Woke up in 2ft of water and lost everything.I thought I was dreaming when I saw all my shit under water and then,I step into the water and a electrical current shot up my legs and then I realize that wall sockets, drop cords and water don't go together. When the water went down,I was able to make it to the kitchen and turn off the breaker box.I save my Green Beast by moving it to higher but,I lost every thing else, including my tablet,1 of my flat screens and a lot of other shit.I'm not asking for a pity party because everything I don't 3 times,I can do it again. The local cop made me leave because,it flooded again tonight.Somebody said Jack, look on the bright side and I cut him off and said, before you say some stupid shit that you read from a fckn greeting card,I don't wanna hear that corny shit and shut da fck up.I got everything I own from damn near killing myself in this fucking business and I lost it in 10mins.If I allowed you into my world and you didn't give a rats ass and call me and mutha fucka, you know who you are, when you see me,I'm going to warn you to go the other way and do not contact me ever again, you ungreatful dreaming lil BITCH!!!!!!!!!

While making a shit joke and contravening a well-devised law, hoping more people die so you can stick a few months on a forum ban isn't exactly winning you a gold medal in the moral superiority event.

Didn't actually do that, but nice try anyway.

The BBC website has posted a few pictures of New York. I hadn't really read anything about it untill just now and theres one picture of the front of an apartment block that has been ripped off. Also, there is on of all the water rushing into the subway. I had know idea it was that bad.EDIT: I have just overheard a woman in the office where I work say, and I quote ''If that hurricane was over here in England, they would call is a slight breeze. We get miles worse than that and don't complain!''I felt like saying, ''Oh aye love, the same country that if there is the slightest drop of snow, goes into chaos with the transport system shutting down''

This is crazy. I just woke up from the sleep of babes, checked that everyone in the house was fine, all the rooms are fine, I look outside and there's no damage to anywhere I can see in this area, a little light rain but there are now cars taking a chance on using the road. I switch on the TV to the news and see what's happened in NJ, NYC, even parts not far from us in PA and the damage is catastrophic. Millions without power, homes and properties flooded or damaged. Suz still hasn't heard back from one of her friends in NJ and I don't wanna wake her with this news.I am so fortunate we are where we are right now, but the affects of the hurricane as the eye has gone past us can still be in effect up to 24 hours later.

I'm in Rochester, NY. We're officially in a state of emergency due to being close to the shoreline of Lake Ontario. The weather got really hairy last night, the house was swaying and we woke up to bits of trees all over the place. I think the worst of it has passed now from looking at stuff online. I'm more worried about the family we have in NYC. I know they lost power at around 8pm last night and we haven't heard from them since.
