Who's the next Man?

Listening to Konnan and Court Bauer's latest podcast, and they were talking about the recent thing with Cena wanting to take 6 weeks off to heal up and Vince telling everyone he'll be back in 2 weeks and how it caused a bit of a stand off and all that shite. Cena's 35 now, and is pretty banged up by all accounts. His neck and back aren't in the best of shape and he does a shit load for a bloke of his size. Not that he's going to the scrap heap anytime soon, but in the next couple of years he's bound to be winding down.

On the said podcast they began talking about WWE getting someone ready to put along side him and eventually replace him as the top man. Which isn't the easiest job in the world, but there must be someone they can groom. Can be in WWE, TNA, ROH, FCW or anywhere.

Sheamus seems to be the plan at the minute, he's pretty over and they've been building him steadily over these last few years. I don't think he'll reach the level Cena's been at the past however many years but he's probably their best hope at the minute. With Orton being too unreliable and one dimensional I don't really see anyone else in the company at the minute.

I'm not even sure there'll be another 'man' to the extent that thereh as been in the past. There'll probably be someone slightly ahead on the pecking orde than others but I think there'll probably be more of a balanced emphasis on three or so key figures.

It's a tough call, it's hard to picture anyone from outside WWE at the moment being their next big star.

A year or so ago, just after his face turn, I'd have said Sheamus would have been the man. Things haven't quite panned out for him in the last six months though, despite being world champion.

It looks like Sheamus is the WWE's selection for next man, and I'd go with that. Fantastic and unique look, performs well in the squared circle, likeable character and an absolute fucking champion when it comes to media appearances. I can't really see anyone else there at the moment who can be "that" guy, as much as I love Daniel Bryan. Apparently HHH thinks that Michael McGillicutty is GOING TO BE A STAR, according to reports from NXT tapings courtesy of the sheets, and I think that's total fucking madness if there's anything to it.

I suppose there's always Kris Kristofferson's son in NXT, but they've called him Garrett Dylan for the love of fuck.

I don't see anyone at the moment. That's not being negative. The Man is usually someone with charisma and stature. It's usually someone who hasn't been tarnished in front of their viewership. I don't see anyone on the roster who fits the bill and haven't seen anyone on NXT either. Not anyone who will be a genuine Hulk Hogan/Steve Austin/The Rock/John Cena type figurehead.

Looking at the current roster, Sheamus and Wade Barrett have the size and charisma but neither are natural babyfaces. Titus O'Neil could be a dark horse.

Tyson Kidd is going to be the man sure enough but not for a while I don't think.....Probably now is the time to bring Chris Hero in strong as a baby face to feud against Punk.

Jinder Mahal could be a great heel if they handle it right

They really need another hard drinking hell raiser in the mold of Austin or Sandman to shake up the shiny male model roster maybe with a solid brawling style.......I can't think of anyone to fill those boots though there is always James Storm but he never comes across as a legit tough guy

Basically we're looking for the next guy who can get as popular as possible with as little effort as possible on WWE's part? Unfortunatly the closest thnig to that in the last few years has been Ryder but you can't make him the face of the industry for obvious reasons. Possibly a face Zigger could reach HBK level and if theres no Cena above him he might seem like the Austin of the time.

These things can surprise you sometimes. Austin and Rock would never have been guys you'd think would reach the stature they did in 1999 three years prior. They completely blew up over that period and there's always a chance someone on WWEs books currently could go on to surprise everybody and do that. Cena and Batista were somewhat similar deals and it took ages for them to actually become really fucking good. Miz might transform into a really fucking big deal under a proper face run and subsequent push? John Morrison may return and have developed in all the areas he was lacking and blow people away. Triple H might be right and McGillicutty will blossom into a tremendous all-round worker. So much can happen and change in a period as short as 3 years in wrestling.

My pick though - MVP.

Outside of WWE, the most likely candidate is Bobby Roode. He's got a fantastic look, is a decent size, has developed into a very good talker, and crucially is that rare performer who can genuinely play a white-meat babyface. He's also a cracking heel as well, as evidenced by his recent run.

His only real downside is his age - he's no younger than Cena though he's probably worked less shows in the last decade.

Bobby Roode reminds me more and more of HHH in about 2001, and that's got to be a good thing.

There aren't many people in TNA I wish were in WWE but Roode is definitely right up there. I think he has an aura about him that puts him way above the rest of the roster these days, to the point where he's almost outgrown TNA for me. If you could literally take him out of TNA how he is now and slot him into WWE, music and all, he'd be fantastic.
