Triple H is 45 now, I think. I never said anything about the age that they ended their careers. Just that they were older than I thought. I didn’t realise they were already in their 40s by the time they hit the WWF. That’s why I put it in the random thoughts thread. No need to be condescending.

I always thought they were 2 grandads from the outback. They basically did nothing in the ring outside of battering rams and biting the opponents arse. If you looked at Marty Jannetty and Shawn Michaels and you looked at Luke and Butch, you'd have thought the marching morons were well older than them.

It is interesting to think though that Vince was signing guys in their forties back then while these days he's not particularly keen on anyone who's over 30.

It was post-territories going down. So the agents frame of reference was people who they liked when they had worked for previous companies. You had people putting a word in for their pals who were bangering them to get a pay day. Pat Patterson might have been pals with Luke and Butch who were regulars on the Canadian circuit. If you watch any shoot interview it seems most of them got their jobs by knowing somebody in the office. Its not like that anymore. The closest you'd get to that now is if someone brought up in a meeting that Van Hammer had one more run in him. Not forgetting of course, unlike now, the WWF didnt need to invest to much in the future compared to now. They seemed to make stars instantly. The Bushwhackers were shit, but everyone knew them. They were stars because the gimmick was so mad and the TV was so strong. If WWE could guarantee they could get a older wrestler on TV and become a star as soon as he shows up, they might give the odd old bloke a chance now. Looking at it back then, Bill Eadie was ancient as well. He's on his pension now, where as Barry Darsow still runs his own business. Edited December 29, 2014 by IANdrewDiceClay

The Cutting Edge Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 With all the discussion about if Roman Reigns is ready for the big push or gonna get booed, I think what will affect his chances on top post Mania are who he feuds with, if he feuds with someone like Big Show or Kane then he may be in trouble. I'd keep Sheamus off tv til post Mania (dunno if hes due back before anyway) bring him back as a heel with a new look and music etc, maybe make him a hired gun type thing for The Authority (who I imagine will be back by then), he could be the perfect fit against Roman and story wise he 'sold out' to The Authority or he'd get deported as Steph told him. Unrelated but how far has Kane fallen recently, he was 'just in the ring for his match with no music' the other week on Smackdown and seems to have lost any aura he had left, I know he's probably on his way out and putting others over but what a 'meh' way to end things

Nikolai Volkof always looked around 60 when he was teaming with Zhukov.

I personally thought Corporate Kane was a good spot for him. He was always going to be treading water after that, for a bit at least. Somehow I don't see him retiring any time soon. Stone Cold was saying that he asked to be put back on the road this year after semi-retiring, as he missed it. He can still work a good match and seems happy to put over whoever, whenever. A great asset.
