Dirty Eddie Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 (edited) Triple H and Stephanie are not Vickie Guerrero and Brad Maddox, nor should wrestlers react to them in the same way. You can't book a Super Mega Turbo Powerful Evil Authority Figure the same way you book the common-or-garden evil authority figures. When you decide to do the Triple H and Stephanie evil owners storyline, you can't just fuck it off two weeks later and have Santino chasing them with the Cobra and Khali beating them in dance contests. They are above that, they are smarter, more intimidating and more resourceful than the likes of Vickie. The core problem is that WWE came out of SummerSlam needing to get two opposing things over, and nobody involved was clever enough or talented enough to pull that off. Much like with Punk and Ryback last year, they stuck to the original plan rather than capitalising on the organic new babyface momentum. The difference being that while they were happy to just completely fuck Ryback and keep Punk strong, they tried to soften the blow for Bryan too much with shitty non-finishes (which didn't protect Bryan anyway) and ended up fucking Randy Orton as a result. I didn't compare Steph and Triple H to Maddox/Vickie or any of the lesser authority figures, I compared them to Vince as they hold that same level of perceived power (real and onscreen). Vince was smart enough to know that he could look silly from time to time, he just had to be "even more dastardly" the next week. Steph just doesn't seem to understand that. Nobody said they should be getting mocked by Santino or any of that other (completely silly and predictably over-the-top) nonsense you said above - just that the occasional "showing ass" actually makes for better TV. Do you think that this story is going really well then? Because you seem to be making that argument, even though you admit that Bryan and Orton (two of the biggest players in the whole thing) have been made to look pretty shit. -- The Dusty thing is a total storm in a teacup as far as I am concerned. He didn't make Steph look weak or steal any of the Authority's heat, he was just a bit cheeky. I certainly don't think Dusty should be humiliating either Steph or Triple H, but I also don't think it would kill their act to show a bit of weakness from time to time. From a character standpoint, he always stood up for what was right (and usually got a right kicking from the Horsemen in the process) so what's different in 2013?

Pitcos has got it right that them trying to get two things over at once has been a cause of this going to shit. They couldn't propel Bryan too much lest they make Orton or The Authority look worse, especially before either had enough heat behind them. It's difficult to book, but I think they went about it all wrong. Really, much as I liked Bryan vs. Cena and that night made Bryan look great, him not being in that main event or holding the title but instead going on to win the Royal Rumble before his big Mania title match would have meant more. Maybe have him work his way into a situation where he gets a number one contendership match on Autumn only for the Authority to jeapordise it for him because it was best for business. Tell him that he had his chance and he blew it so he's not getting a title shot any time soon. He gets into the Rumble, Authority fix it so he's number 2 but he overcomes the odds to win it. Essentially, push some of what they did closer to Rumble time and have his first title win at Mania. Perhaps have Bryan vs. Triple H at Summerslam 2014. I agree with Eddie that The Authority haven't really shown their arse. Triple H can show his arse and is good at it when he does - and part of the reason is that he protects his character so well that when he does get shown up, it means more. Batista and Cena were both elevated facing him. They're trying to build heat at the same time Bryan was trying to build momentum though. EDIT: I should note that I don't think Bryan was bound to be their next big star anyway, much as Ilike him. I think Ryback was a bigger missed opportunity as I think he could have been a bigger star. Austin would say something nasty and Vince's face would fill with rage, then Austin would scold him for "eyeballin" him and you'd get the McMahon Gulp and he'd look shit-scared. Vince's panto face-acting was hilarious.

It's not been weird or obsessive though, people have clearly explained why they don't like the angle or the way Triple H and Stephanie have been portrayed throughout it. He reckoned she should do interviews with superstars in the ring. Low and behold she has done this on both Raw and Smackdown this week and on Smackdown last week. Coincidence??
