Paid Members Halitosis Romantic Posted February 16, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 16, 2012 I don't even want to know what it was... I'm so much more happy to use my recommendation. Paid Members MichaelScarn Posted February 16, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 16, 2012 I was 14 when it hit the shelves at ASDA, there was no chance the parents would have got it for me but I was so desperate to see it there was no way I was leaving without it. I very nervously spent 30 mins walking around with it memorising a birth date that made me 15 and a half. Cashier couldn't give 2 shits when I eventualy went to pay for it. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 16, 2012 Author Paid Members Share Posted February 16, 2012 PS I used to work in a video shop and once I had a massive argument with a customer because he wanted to rent Terminator 3 and I wouldn't let him as he hadn't seen the first 2. Â But seriously, what really happened? Â I absolutely insisted that he was making a poor decision, I told him the first 2 were amazing, he just wanted to see no3 because it was a new release, I wouldn't budge so he asked to speak to my manager, I said I was the assistant manager and I was in charge at that time, he rented something else and complained about me to my manager the next day when he returned it, she thought it was funny and enjoyed having someone who really cared about films working for her, the fact that I was constantly giving recommendations of amazing films to clueless twats who had never heard of them and then loved them 99% of the time made up for my occasional recklessness. Â I did once in a moment I'm less proud of swing a fire extinguisher at a customer's face because he didn't rent what I told him to after he asked for a recommendation. Â But seriously, what really happened?

Paid Members MichaelScarn Posted February 16, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 16, 2012 (edited) I was 14 when it hit the shelves at ASDA, there was no chance the parents would have got it for me but I was so desperate to see it there was no way I was leaving without it. I very nervously spent 30 mins walking around with it memorising a birth date that made me 15 and a half. Cashier couldn't give 2 shits when I eventualy went to pay for it. Â Your parents wouldn't let you watch a 15 certificate when you were 14??? What the fuck? Poor sod. Â I did used to watch 15/18's and stuff on TV, without them having any problem with it, I think it was just that it was Terminator and they must have judged it by their knowledge of the 1st one (and they wern't therefore going to buy it for me). They had a warped sense of what was or wasn't acceptable. Â Funnily enough another film on this list, Commando, they had no problem with me showing to my 6 years old at-the-time brother (I was 17 by then). Â The middle brother, only 2 years younger then me had seriously bad nightmares when he was about 6-7 after listening/reading the book-and-tape (remember them?) of Gremlins. Paid Members Halitosis Romantic Posted February 16, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 16, 2012 My mum was the same - I was basically allowed to watch any horror and porn (within the restrictions of what the video shop had), but if my mum heard too much swearing, she'd get upset and make me turn it off. It's fucking weird, really strange social conditioning, that the sex and gore is fake, but the swearing is somehow real and painful. She's still like it now, will dislike a film based on the level of swearing.
Loki
Did anyone else's mum always walk in during the nudity bit of any film you (and your mates) happened to be watching? Like you're sitting there watching Nuns On The Run, and just when it gets to the shower scene she walks in "Would anyone like a drink... oh, what's this?" Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted February 16, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 16, 2012 Haha... this conversation reminds me of going to see Serial Mom. Had no idea what it was about, and it was rated 12 in Paris (where I lived at the time). I went to see it with a mate from school, and my whole family, grandma included. I got dragged out of that cinema around about the time of the scene where the guy was jacking off to porn. Â I was real embarassed because I had my school friend there, and his parents didn't care what he watched.
Paid Members Thunderplex Posted February 16, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 16, 2012 Love this movie. found out recently that the fantastic Sarah Connor vs Sarah Connor fight at the end was less special effects and more "Lets get Linda Hamiltons twin sister in this thing!". Genius.
Paid Members chokeout Posted February 16, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 16, 2012 Slightly off topic but IGN are going to do free screenings of a Sci Fi classic in select cinemas across the country to promote Mass Effect 3. Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted February 16, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 16, 2012 Why would anyone choose Avatar? Ridiculous. Â I clicked on the first new page on this thread, and without the context, thought that someone had voted for Avatar in their Top 10. Â I was going to force Gladstone to hand over their name so I could ban them.
