Good Guys In Wrestling

From what I've heard through the years, Davey Boy was liked by everyone, even though I imagine that at some point, a lot of them felt like killing him after being the victim of his serial ribbing. He had more than his fair share of problems though, of course, and I'm sure that someone will bring up the stealth-buggery of Diana Smith, but after seeing as much as you possibly could see of a wrestler without knowing them in real life, Smith seemed to be one of those guys that was liked by a lot of people and was the sort of person that lifted your mood after speaking to him.

Hitman's book made Roddy Piper sound a stand-up guy, he was the only one of "the boys" who came to see Bret after his stroke.

Of the wrestlers I've met, I'd say the two nicest and modest were AJ Styles and Masato Yoshino.

Chris Benoit was always seen as a nice bloke, so its impossible to say without knowing them.

You're right there. It seems like he was always a nutter and a bully though, it just never came out til after he was dead because of fear or "respect" or something.

You never hear a bad word said about Taker.

Paul London's not that fond of him.

Its worth mentioning in 2007 Dave Meltzer said the two people most "charming people" (to your face of course) and the ones who do the most charity work away from wrestling without publicity to it is Goldberg and Hulk Hogan.

Isn't Hogan's reason for doing more to make other people think he's a nice guy rather than doing from the heart and after the last few years I'd say Mick Foley's reasons are pretty much the same as well as he gets to hang around with some celebrities.

On that I think Foley is one where if you asked this question a few years ago he would be at or near top of the list but now he's either changed or his true colours have been reviled.

Currently, this is a hard one, given how regimented and politically driven WWE seems to be. There's probably a lot of guys who play nice for PR reasons or whatever, but are actually arseholes on a personal level. My line of thinking here is John Cena. For years I heard what a nice, stand up bloke he was, but in recent times I've heard the odd story of him being a brown noser and generally fake, and the story about him pulling Vince aside in 02 seemed like he was willing to throw everyone else under the bus to be the top dog. I think Vince's pep talk was, "If you're willing to step over everyone to get to the top, then step up," or something, and Cena went to him afterwards and said, "I'm your guy."

Brock Lesnar too. Undertaker is an odd one, I think people don't say anything because he has so much influence in the company, with the added bonus that he's mental and is handy in a fight. I've always suspected Undertaker is like a straight laced version of Ric Flair, really nice to your face but is in Vinces ear all the time.

One odd thing I heard about Undertaker is after The Montreal Screwjob is that when any of the parties involved asked him he claimed to be on their side in both Bret and Shawn's books it's claimed he told them that he with them and I heard he told Earl the same thing maybe he's just a guy who tells everybody what he think they want to hear

The nicest guys I've met were:

Bushwhacker Butch- First wrestler I ever really met and got an autograph off from, he was so nice. Back in about 2000 and he was determined to chat with everyone, just things like 'What's your name?... Robert? That's my real name you know, course no one calls me that anymore, cept me mum and me sister, makes me cringe...' Just lovely man.

Billy Gunn- Again, very laid back, smiley person, chatty and appreciative.

Daivari- He was so cool, just before he joined TNA I took a program to a VPW show he was on (Booker T was meant to show up but didn't) and he asked me politely if I would hang around so he could take a look. Really nice and classy man.

Can't think of anyone else I met long enough to get a real impression from. Although I do like Delirious since he gave me a free sticker and reduced price on my t-shirt. Nice guy.

Sting is definitely up there, I think it's in Vampiro's shoot interview -he says when he went to WCW it was the famous locker room from hell with all the old boys who were on ridiculous contracts, they'd barely speak to the young guys -except Sting who was a complete pro and always up for giving advice.

I love Sting, great worker, great look, longevity, did his career his way (the dude's been a top name for over 20 years and never worked in WWF/E-amazing achievement), he's also a great guy and still has money and his health, totally deserves it.

Have no recollection of where I read this, but I'm sure that porn legend Jenna Jameson doesn't really like 'Taker. Maybe somone else on here could shed some more light on this one.

She went on a rant in her book about him being a nutter as I recall.

From what I understand, if you're with the company, you like him. If you aren't, you might not. The thing that I always remember about him is that he let kennedy piledrive him. If that's not worthy of respect, fuck knows what is.

As for goldberg, the only thing that coimes to mind about him is " You're mother's a goof!"
