If it IS Sting, someone will have to change that line on his Wikipedia article about being the most famous wrestler never to be in WWE :p

Just out of curiosity, to whom would that title now go to? Abdullah The Butcher?

It would have to be Big Daddy wouldn't it?

for me thats actually quite an interesting shout, but if your going to name british wrestlers then surely you have to name japanese ones too. but the thing with naming either british or japanese wrestlers is you have to aknowledge that they are not really that famous outside of their respective countries and the american counterparts are.

I think the Sting/WWE debate should be put down to "person who never wrestled for WWF/WWE that anyone give a fuck about". Mentioning Big Daddy and La Parka is redundant, because if the WWF wanted them they'd have just taken them and they La Parka would have been doing jobs to Taka and Funaki and Big Daddy probably wouldn't have even been put on TV his mobility was so shit. The likes of these people had zero value to McMahon.

is it sting or not, the rating wont go up. never a rating winner or ppv attraction, hes was the nearly guy

mark

Apart from setting the wrestling PPV record in 1997, being a constant television ratings winner throughout 1996-98 and being the only person in TNA to make a difference to there audience viewership upon his arrive, of course. Minor details, but worth mentioning.

No! Big Daddy was a huge name over here, in the States nobody has a clue who he is. It's like saying Ridikozan. Massive name in Japan, again in the States only the smarts know who he was.

Is there a possibility that it could be La Parka?

Nah. Was on the save level in WCW as the likes of Psichosis, Juvi etc. Jobbers in WWE a few years ago. There's a lot bigger names in the western world of wrestling that have not graced the 'E.

I take it when discussing this, we're talking about living/active wrestlers? Otherwise surely the likes of Georg Hackenschmidt & Frank Gotch would own this. Or even Lou Thesz, or did he work for WWWF/Capitol or whatever they were known as at some point? Then again, are these names that are known today? Again, only smarts really know them- although Thesz has been name-dropped a bit over the years.

Anyway, the answer is clearly Davey Richards

A few other minor ones are that hes a multi time worlds heavyweight champion, once part of the most popular tag teams of the mid 90's (himself and luger), as well as beign a part of the most popular group of all time (The wolpac). That bundled in with called the greatest wrestler ever by the likes of ric flair and even hulk hogan. Minor details, but of course hes a "Nearly guy".

To quote Ric Flair " if Sting would of had Vince Mcmahon behind him he would be a bigger name then Hulk Hogan"

I dont think so. WCW never wanted to lose Sting and Sting never wanted to leave a company paying him millions to work a light schedule. Sting always knew a good deal when he saw it. He's probably been the highest paid wrestler compared his his appearances since 1996. He must be loaded. In 2002 they supposedly had a gentleman's agreement for a Sting vs Triple H match at WrestleMania 19, but they started running angles where Triple H was shagging dummy's and that put him off. Being a man of great Christian beliefs and morally correct, he decided to speak out and not take the money :)

however was against the content WWE were putting out.

I doubt that. He spent the next decade working for companies that promoted Viagra on a Poll matches and then ... TNA!

Thinking about it some more, it makes you wonder what made Sting agree to work for World Wrestling Allstars, but knock back Vince McMahon.

The same reason Steiner did. To get back some match fitness and get paid a lot of money to talk to Bagwell and Luger. Those tours were paid holidays. Those tours were while he was negotiating with WWF and New Japan. It was Sting supposedly throwing his hat back into wrestling. I remember an interview with him on TalkSport saying he wanted one last angle to go out on. Sting vs Triple H would have been good at the time, I think.
