Paid Members Egg Shen Posted June 16, 2015 Author Paid Members Posted June 16, 2015 thing is, im the kind of sucker that always gets excited for fights, package me up some little hype video and im always on board...that said, when was the last time Ken Shamrock wasn't involved in a fight that wasn't a collosal let down?...after he KO'd Kimo in 2004!! i don't think there's been one positive thing to say about Ken's MMA career i'll always have a soft spot for the guy, and any time i see his name mentioned in the press im checking it out, but i'll be very surprised if the fight Saturday doesn't end with Ken bailing out as soon as Kimbo lays a glove on him. lets look at the record (since Kimo): vs. Rich Franklin - the whole dive thing took place where Ken's legs weirdly gave way, this shit has been debated for years. vs. Tito Ortiz 2 & 3 - non events, 2nd was a farce and the 3rd confirmed what the 2nd would if it wasn't for a slightly early referee stoppage. vs. Kazushi Sakuraba - Ken got hit by a guy with little power, cowered and bailed through the ropes then protested the stoppage. vs. Robert Berry - Ken's fight in England, lots of people say Ken took a dive. vs. Ross Clifton - Ken fights a 500lb man, beats him then gets popped for steroids. vs. Pedro Rizzo - at least Ken showed some balls in this one from what i recall, got stopped with leg kicks. vs. Jonathon Ivey - another fat fuck Ken beat, i don't recall seeing it but i think i think Ivey played to the crowd during the fight. vs, Mike Bourke - Ken bailed out at 2mins citing injury. hmmmm... Ken took a little slap, turned his back and put his head through the ropes, ref stopped it as Ken seemed to be wanting no more, Ken goes mental. His outburst here was one of my favourite 'Shamrock loses his head' moments. But Shamrock's body language turning away and stuff didn't look good. The ref could've let it go a bit but if you turn your back like that you're asking for the ref to call it. The thing is he wasn't like that before he went to the WWF in 1997. In the early UFC's you didn't see him going berserk if he lost a fight. When he returned to MMA in 2000 though, he seemed to be carrying on the WWF gimmick where he'd 'snap' at a moments notice. Quote

David Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 (edited) I honestly think it's more of a case of his body breaking down on him. He's been fighting for 22 fucking years. Is there anyone else from that era who's still competing at the level of Bellator or UFC? Plus, he was 29 years old when he made his debut! He got into the game late. He's two years older than Royce, one year older than Bas Rutten & Don Frye, and three years older than Oleg Taktarov. That really puts it in perspective I think. His loss to Don Frye at Pride 19 really was the beginning of the end for him. He was 38 years old at that point, and had been in some real wars back in the old days when rules were sketchy at best. Since then he's went 3-9, which is insane when you think about it. I'm honestly surprised he's still alive. I'm actually surprised he's not went down the Metamoris road rather than continuing to fight MMA. It's his stand up that lets him down, and his chin. His ground game looks decent from what I've seen. As for the Berry fight, ive talked about on here previously but i once read an interview with Shamrock (think it was on Punch Drunk Gamer) where he sort of implied it was work or more that Shamrock took a dive because he wasnt happy with the whole situation, i cant recall exactly what it said though. From 2002-2008, he came out with some right shite while fighting for UFC and Pride. Maybe it was just the stress of the environment he was in. Shamrock could never in a million years pass a WWE medical at this point. And those medicals are all about "what if he gets hit in the head." Chances are, Kenny is taking a fucking pounding to that head of his. There's no if, ands or buts about that, unless Shamrock doesn't find the 1995 version of himself from somewhere (which doesnt exist anymore). A bloke of his age, with all those injuries and rumours that his head is in Benoit levels of mentalness, he should be protected from himself at this point. Its really sad. BUT ... I will watch this fight, then torrent it and watch again, though. The ridiculousness of Kimbo vs Shamrock is to amazing to miss. It'd be like watching Ernest Miller wrestle Ahmed Johnson in 2015, if you want to compare it to odd wrestling pairings. This is why the world needs Bellator. They are always on the edge of taste and lack of credibility. Anything can happen in Bellator. Its insane. I bet if two old fuckers from the 80s go a bit mad, and offer each other out (like Warrior and Nash a few years back), Bellator would probably put the money down for them. David Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Shamrock looks to be in great shape, even if he's went the route of the fake tan bodybuilding look. I still think this fight will be determined by where it ends up. Either Kimbo by KO within two minutes, or if Shamrock can get Kimbo to the floor it'll be a long night for MMA's biggest ever ratings star. Kenny boy may be old and crazy, but you don't unlearn all of the groundfighting that he knows. He can still tap muthafucka's out. Quote
