Big day for new releases yesterday with Deicide and Darkthrone both putting out new albums. Also worth checking out are:

I'm always gutted when we don't get a follow up to Soulside Journey, Darkthrone almost act like it doesn't exist but it's one of the most original death metal albums of the time, maybe ever.

I kinda wish that never followed Mayhem into making black metal..

The new Bongripper rips, but there are no bongs..

Silly name but they've never really been a stoner band as such and the new album dives even further into atmospheric sludge, feels now like a very grown up band. It's beautiful.

I never really checked past the first album but that early stuff was great.

Bands are pulling out of Download now over the Barclays involvement and sponsorship, there's a not so secret gig on Friday in Brum with a few of the bands who're no longer playing there.

Edit: I was lucky to get told about this before it was put on sale officially, sold out in 5 minutes. I feel sorry for the walls in Centrala..

Although I am incredibly sad that I will never get to see them live, I'm glad they're all still able to sit round a table together as friends, and they're happy with their decisions.

A lot of bands I love that have split up or whatever I always think "Yeah there might be a chance" but not with these lads, and that's fine.

I've always though R.E.M were a good band but they really clicked for me a few years back. Came to the realisation of how much I liked them when I noticed I'd watched four or five different version of Night Swimming back to back. This is the best one, if only for 3:57 onwards for how Michael looks at Mike Mills playing piano. Getting misty eyed now watching it again..
 

At the other end of the musical spectrum we were announced on Friday as opener for Eyehategod and Goatwhore in Sheffield in December which is pretty much a dream lineup for us, if only because I want to talk to Sammy Duet about Acid Bath and him playing guitar on my three favourite Crowbar albums.
I've woken up this morning to the news that somebody I've been internet friends with for coming up to ten years who is from New Orleans, friends with the EHG lads and is heavily involved in the NOLA sludge scene died from cancer yesterday. I'm pretty emotional this morning which I don't know if it's weird or not because I never met him in person but he's someone I really felt a connection to. Was hoping to get over there one day to hang out and chat bands and was genuinely excited to talk to him about this show. I've had a little cry today, no shame. Think it's going to be an emotional gig for me.
