Not as mad as the idea of ditching the LBW law, which I've also heard the ECB wants to do.
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted April 20, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted April 20, 2018 Have you got a source for that CricketTilde? Having gone through loads of presentations from various folks in the ECB that hasn't come up. There was some talk of doing away with the ball pitching outside leg stump not automatically been not out and treating it like ball pitching outside off stump. Here's the BBC report... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/43824037 I've also seen it reported on some newspaper sites too.
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted April 20, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted April 20, 2018 I'd seen that Codders it was the dropping LBW I hadn't seen. If it mentions that in the article my apologies, but as an umpire my eyesight is very poor.

I haven't personally seen anything about the lbw thing, so hopefully it's just one of this things that were just thrown out there Alan Partridge "monkey tennis"style. I can see some value in treating a ball pitched outside leg the same as one pitching outside off though, as long as it's consistant... Paid Members Gus Mears Posted April 30, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted April 30, 2018 (edited) Somerset have won 2/2, which is a minor miracle. Our record from the opening two fixtures in the last 15 years had been 3/30 up until this point. Matt Renshaw hit one of the best knocks you'll ever see on a pitch that was doing loads throughout. Always satisfying to beat Yorkshire too, who have the only fans who I actively don't look forward to visiting Taunton. I never have any expectation after 125 years of perpetual disappointment that this means we're likely to win the Championship, but hopefully will put us in good stead to not be in a relegation dogfight all year. Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted June 19, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted June 19, 2018 Sorry if this counts as live chat but FUCKING HELL, ENGLAND ARE DISMANTLING THE AUSSIES AT TRENT BRIDGE!!
Paid Members Cod Eye Posted June 20, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted June 20, 2018 How good was that innings by England yesterday? The Aussies must be crest fallen after that! Johnny Bairstow must be pushing for the top slot on the official ODI batsmen ranking now right? 4 centuries in his last his innings and a ODI career average of over 50 highlights just how much he has improved... Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted June 20, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted June 20, 2018 It was incredible to watch, especially considering that England are traditionally so poor at 50 over cricket. The last few years have seen a remarkable transformation. To think you have Stokes and Woakes to come back into that side. It could actually have been worse for Australia as we didn't hit any boundaries in the last 4 overs. 500 could have been on.
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted June 20, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted June 20, 2018 Wildly entertaining stuff yesterday. It's Englanitis, but I just can't help but feel this was all explode in a cloud of misery when we get to the actual World Cup.
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted June 20, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted June 20, 2018 We will get to the semi final and get bowled out for 120 because "It's the way we play" We are not winning the a world Cup but it's fun to watch. Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted June 24, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted June 24, 2018 England being this good at 50 over cricket is surely one of the signs of the apocalypse. Winning that today was remarkable and made even sweeter because the Aussies thought they were going to win.
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted June 27, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted June 27, 2018 (edited) Think I have scored box seats to the biggest event in world cricket, the RLODC Final, this Saturday at Lords. I will be rooting for the mighty Kent over the evil Kolpak hordes of Hampshire. I don't actually particularly like Lords as a ground, but I am fucking giddy at the prospect of hospitality there; didn't think that would happen until I was 40 or so. In CC news, it's all gone tits up for Somerset. Enjoyed the ride, but it couldn't last. At least we look to have enough about us to avoid relegation this season. Paid Members JNLister Posted July 23, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted July 23, 2018 So this 100-ball tournament nonsense... Telegraph now reporting the plan is 12 man teams where you pick 11 to bowl and 11 to bat. In other words, one person is just there to bowl and one just to bat. So designated hitters from baseball. (Or more to the point, you train a guy to be specialist in hitting boundaries and he doesn't even have to learn how to field.) Oh, and it'll be 20 overs of five runs each rather than the original 15 normal overs and then a 10-ball over to finish. (Actually if you are going to go full on nonsense, I quite liked the idea of the final over being 10 balls and you have one fielder go off after each ball, so it gets safer and safer to go for game-winning boundaries or multiple runs.)
