I think that was because his gimmick became too gay for most fans so then they made it obvious that he was banging Marlena storyline wise to stop the backlash. Â He was never Homosexual, it was just greatly implied. Â The "love letter to Razor" was as much implication as you'd need to remove reasonable doubt. And he snogged Ahmed Johnson as soon as Ahmed was unconscious enough to let him. Obviously subsequent storyline developments (see below) make it easy to retcon that it was all just a mind game to get inside the heads of his opponents. Although retrospectively that makes it very strange that the reigning Intercontinental champ would then go and molest a guy like Ahmed Johnson who he wasn't already working with, giving a reason for him to want to kick his head in, and he obviously was very capable of doing just that. If you mean "fans didn't like it" backlash, they weren't meant to. He was a heel. Â They outed Goldust as a closet hetero because they wanted to turn him babyface and program him with Hunter, and they assumed correctly that the average rasslin fan would cheer him as soon as they realized what a fag he truly wasn't. Rather than being homosexual, i always saw it as him using androgyny as a way to mess with his opponents and prevent them focusing on the match. The Razor thing especially. He did the love letter and all that stuff, which caused the very masculine Bad Guy to lose his shit so much he went nuclear and attacked him (the visual of them out in the snow was awesome). Then when the match for Razor's title rolls around at the Rumble, out comes Goldust with Marlena!! It was like changing all the questions when everyone thought they had the answers.
