  1. The current mob of Republicans wouldn't do that for Arnie; he's practically a communist to them now. My dad's really chuffed about Mamdani - back during the Anti-Apartheid movement era, my dad worked with various publishers and organisations across the global South, and he stayed a few times with Zohran's father while setting up leftie/socialist/anti-colonialist book fairs in Uganda.

Nah, it's fair enough. As I say, we like what we like, and that includes not liking stuff as well. "Folk" can be a bit of a nebulous term anyway. Folk music historian Steve Roud said "Folk music is music played by a folk musician, and a folk musician is someone who plays folk music". Hell, Louis Armstrong said "All music is folk music - ain't no horse ever played a trumpet". As regards the "Send the buggers back" thing in PN, it's funny actually how many folkies are the diametric opposite: a lot of them are Marxists, socialists, and communists. That link I posted above, Sandra Kerr talks about being part of the Anti-Capitalist League, and various other table-thumping, tankard-swinging red endeavours. EDIT: Pat makes a good point. I love trad as much as any other kind of folk, but there's room for loads. I also love my old socialist anthems and worker/protest songs. First song I learned to play and sing on my mandolin was Guantanamera.

Hey, we like what we like, right? No place to understand that better than a wrestling fan forum. Folk's a pretty wide genre. If you like Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, The Dubliners, Christy Moore, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, etc., then you like some folk at least.
  4. Yeh, Hokit's the shithead calling Michelle Obama a man and saying he'll beat up trans people.
  5. The catharsis I never ever thought I would have. Loving this for Covington. The Republicans chucked out of the House, and then he's choked out in under a minute in his discipline by a guy four divisions lighter. Superb.
  6. Currently got a bottle of HP Fruity in the cupboard. It's good stuff.
  7. The FWA thought he was Solid Gold as well.
  8. I hope they nail that Savile tribute act to the wall.

I've become a regular listener to Classic Folk, the weekly internet radio show put out by the English Folk Dance & Song Society - there's always a really good mix of trad, modern, Celtic, English, Americana, etc. This week's a repeat in tribute to Sandra Kerr following her passing last week - it has an interview with her at Sidmouth Folk Festival in 2013. There's a section where she talks about her move up to Northumbria, and how she fell in love with the region and its traditions (which might be of interest to several on here, including @HarmonicGenerator), at roughly the one-hour mark. https://www.efdss.org/about-us/folk-player/listen-classic-folk#
  10. Close this forum. We're a bunch of amateurs. There's an actual, dedicated Reddit for this.
  11. I'm just thankful Houchen's not here to see this thread.
  12. Forget everything I just said. This is the way forward. Set something up with Jake Paul - I'm sure he'd do well out of it.
  13. See, I'm glad you've introduced the time limit, because the bold bit is the issue I've always had with the X-Division. There's no actual kayfabe rule as to what the delineation is. Saying it's "no limits" to imply loads of big moves is, to my mind, stupid - because what's to stop a wrestler doing those kinds of moves in the "regular" divisions, and what's to ensure that wrestlers do high-flying or spectacular moves? And conversely, Samoa Joe just battered the shit out of everyone else, regular style, so then the criteria for X-Division isn't high-flying or llave or lucha or any other kind of fast, technical stuff. It would've been difficult to pull off, but I always thought they should differentiate the X-Division with the six-sided ring, and keep the four-sider for the regular divisions. Maybe add some extra rules about time limits, as you say, and perhaps about how many times you can strike a downed opponent in the same "down" period, or something like that.
  14. Yeh, most likely. But if his career is over because of all this, he wouldn't necessarily have that much to lose. The fact they're worth 25bn dollars shouldn't put anyone off from suing - otherwise, they'd get away with anything and everything. But I get what you mean about the contracts. If I were in his position, I'd still consider it - but not before putting in a lot of time consulting with lawyers and lining up all my ducks in a row.
  15. I say he should ignore the haters (like those cunts pay his bills), and either sue Gane or sue the UFC. Yes, there is a certain amount of leeway in combat sports, but if it's something specifically against the rules that's designed to minimise exactly this sort of thing happening, i.e. curtailing a fighter's career, then he should have something of a case.
  16. It's not just Kaye who flogs a one-trick, dead pony.
  17. Is Mirfield part of Huddersfield? My mum often mentioned how she was born in the same hospital that he was.
  18. If they had a sibling, they could be a tag team called The Kecks.
  19. Jeremy's...Iron
  20. Folk music legend Sandra Kerr has passed, aged 84. Most people will know her for having written the Bagpuss theme, among many others for the BBC. My childhood's taking a bit of a shoeing this week. RIP.
  21. Sorry for the double post wank. Just off the top of my head, there are plenty of non-belt and non-mask objects you could discuss: Greg Valentine's Heartbreaker (in conjunction with Jimmy Garvin's Hammer Jammer), the Undertaker's urn, Mr. Fuji's salt bucket, the steel chair, the Wrestlemania mini-ring entrance trolleys, Bret Hart's sunglasses, Atsushi Onita's cigarette, the combo of the table, ladder and chair with relation to the Dudleys, Hardys, and E&C, the nWo's spray can, "Arrogance", Beefcake's face protector, etc...
  22. Yeh, I went to this too. Kudos on the quality of it; it was truly engrossing.
  23. Also not quite the same, but Stephanie was on TV a lot more, and had a fair few matches too. Usually, the booker/kid combo tended to happen in other promotions, I think - the Rhodes, the Jarretts, the Watts, the Gagnes.
  24. I thought the Hollycaust was his Falcon Arrow finish, and the Alabama Slam was that over-the-shoulders powerbomb thingy?
  25. Oh, man. This one definitely hurts. Right in the childhood onwards. All the usual love for his Picard and Xavier, and I second the shout for his Sejanus in I, Clavdivs, and even his Gurney Halleck in the original Dune. It was also good to know he was such a lovely guy too, and it was heartbreaking when he opened up about his father's violence towards his mother, and how he felt so helpless to protect her. RIP Sir Patrick Stewart. A superb career, and a good man. I'm saddened by his passing, but glad that the dementia didn't have time to take hold.
