TheScarlettChad Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Bryan vs. Eddie Guerrero (Bryan and Eddie in his prime would've created magic) Modern day CM Punk vs. Eddie Guerrero (Yeah they wrestled in IWA in 2002, but Punk now would have some fire promos against Eddie, But Eddie would have to be pre 2004. He fell apart sadly.) Stone Cold vs. CM Punk (Don't really need to explain this one.) Quote

PWG actually had this match booked but TNA pulled Kurt from the show the day before they were going to announce it. Quote

Ironic Indie Lad Posted August 12 Posted August 12 BOILING HOT TAKE - I think that would have been a good match! Quote

This one happened in a slightly mad way - JAPW booked Joe & Dan Maff vs. Vader & Mike Awesome in 2004; I remember it being pretty good at the time. Quote

I always remember this as it was covered in Power Slam with a lot of pictures. Must have been a slow month for news if they were dedicating a lot of space to Jersey All Pro show. Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted August 12 Paid Members Posted August 12 There was that period in the early 2000s when there were certain American indies that were getting a lot of attention here: JAPW, IWA:MS, PWG, ROH, CZW, Chikara, and XPW, amongst others. Back then, before I truly understood how hopeless the British scene was, I used to get annoyed that Powerslam would dedicate all this space to companies that, on the face of it, didn't appear to be much bigger, better quality, or better-attended than the FWA, wAw, or IPW:UK, but dedicate literally none to anything happening in the UK. I do remember a fair number of UK indie fans talking about JAPW a fair bit. Quote

It's funny, because living in Jersey and with very limited access to the UK indies, it was through the magazines that I learned about the FWA, and they did feel as big or bigger than a lot of the US indies I had no frame of reference for purely because of how good the coverage was. There's a lot of primacy given to America in general, though, as being "proper" wrestling. I used to get annoyed backstage at CIWW - Nathan Frazer, then Ben Carter, had not long left us to go and wrestle in the US, and he was working in Tennessee at the time, before he went to Seth Rollins' training school, and wrestlers would be showing each other clips on their phones of Ben wrestling over there, talking about how cool it was. I'd point out to them that Ben's wrestling in front of 50 people sat on their hands, and we're about to go and work a show in front of 250 people, so if you think what he's doing is awesome, maybe take some pride in what you're doing here too - but they didn't get it, "in America" just instantly made everything bigger and more important. Both very good at pacing, and both knew/know how to make their stuff look like it really hurt. This is the clear winner for me! The first name that popped into my head when I saw this thread was Rocco. People often talk about clashes of styles when discussing wrestlers of different generations, but Rocco was working matches in the eighties that would amaze audiences even now. I just couldn't think of anyone from today's scene that I'd find interesting to see him work with, as to be honest nobody these days comes close to the quality of Rocco's work, in my opinion. I had completely forgotten about Bryan though, given his semi-retired status and the fact he's not currently working. If we're counting him as eligible for this thread, that would be a sensational match! Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted August 12 Author Paid Members Posted August 12 Hangman Page and Big Boss Bossman would have a perfect little 10 minute TV match which everyone except me would forget about as soon as it finished. Quote
Paid Members Statto Posted August 12 Paid Members Posted August 12 Well that's fucking bizarre... having read the thread earlier and mused on it, I was coming in to suggest Hangman vs Bossman... Perhaps just because it's my favourite now (sorry, everyone) vs my favourite as a kid. But I reckon it'd be a banger. And I'd remember it too. Some great suggestions in here, but it's still Darby vs Bam Bam from the OP that gets my blood pumping most of all. That'd be immense. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted August 12 Author Paid Members Posted August 12 Darby vs anyone is interesting really but Darby vs 1996 Sabu in the ECW Arena would be something next level. On the opposite end of the scale Orange Cassidy doing a programme with Hollywood Rock would make gold telly. Like the Rock/Hurricane story but even funnier. Quote
RIDDUM_N_STYLE Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Sting vs Warrior - I know we got them as a team during Crazy Jim’s shambolic run in WCW but they could easily play off their early history and have Warrior’s promos tap into a more darker, heelish style like the ‘crash the plane’ one he cut on Hogan in the run up to WM6 Quote
