Won the league, the German FA Cup and Super Cup. He’s the best striker in the world. That’s why. Yamal has lots of years to win it multiple times. Bayern win the league and cup and super cup every year, that's not impressive. They have an award for the best striker, it's called the Gerd Muller award. They have an award for most goals, it's the golden boot. The Ballon Dor is supposed to be for the best footballer, and Kane isn't. He doesn't turn up in big games. Yamal being 19 isn't a reason for him to not win the award. Quote

Which Yamal got. 4 minutes ago, Tennessee Moltisanti said: Yamal being 19 isn't a reason for him to not win the award. I didn’t say that’s the case. They didn't win the league at his first season at Bayern, after winning 11 leagues in a row. He turned up, they didn't win it. They didn't spend £100million on him for him to win them MORE Bundesliga trophies, he's been signed to win the Champions League. Big games which he didn't turn up in this season; Rotten Vs Norway in world cup quarter final Worst player on the pitch Vs Argentina in world cup semi final Bad to average at best Vs psg in champions League semi finals I'm not sure which records Kane broke to be honest, his calendar year goals won't have gotten close to Messi's record. Neither would his goals during the season. Or during the world cup. Quote
Briefcase Posted Tuesday at 12:12 PM Posted Tuesday at 12:12 PM Yamal had a poor World Cup IMO (not Spains best player) and didn't have a great Champions League campaign with Barca (definitely not better than Kane). You could argue he missed a few months injured but then why would a player win it having missed months of football when others were also in the running? Quote
Tennessee Moltisanti Posted Tuesday at 12:25 PM Posted Tuesday at 12:25 PM That's fair, but Yamal was definitely Barca's best player last season. Kane wasn't, Olise won their award. Olise was probably better at the world cup than Kane as well. Messi was definitely the best player at the World Cup, and when he went up against Kane, it wasn't even close. Quote

And he was pretty cowardly in that semi final Vs Argentina, just dropping deeper and deeper, not even thinking about holding the ball up to relieve the pressure. Should really have been Yamal, he's the best footballer in Europe. Quote

And he wasn't his club's best player or his country's. Winning the Bundesliga when they can do that with Choupo Moting up front doesn't impress me much (shout out Shania) Quote
Paid Members johnnyboy Posted Tuesday at 01:16 PM Paid Members Posted Tuesday at 01:16 PM (edited) I don't think anyone can diminish Kane's biggest achievement, which of course is winning the Ballon d'Or in Skechers. My old dad has to wear those because doing laces on normal shoes is a bit much for him. Yamal can't do it in orthopaedic slippers on a wet Sunday in Cologne. Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted Tuesday at 01:18 PM Paid Members Posted Tuesday at 01:18 PM Olise got a lot of goal contributions with goals scored and assists. Which is fair enough why he was given the player of the year for Bayern. But Kane is there to score the goals. 61 of them in 51 games. Just because he didn’t win their player of the season, doesn’t mean their isn’t an argument from other people and their opinions to say Kane was. Quote

I agree with Devon that this is a bollocks award as I don't think subjective individual awards should be given for team sports, but even putting my Spurs allegiance aside (as to be honest once a player leaves I really don't give a shit) it's impossible to say that over the last year he hasn't earned it. He's a ridiculous player who's had a banner year in his career, and the others on the list haven't come near his level. Quote

He wasn't his club's best player or his country's best player, so how can he be the best player in the world? Wasn't the best player in the Bundesliga, Champions League or the World Cup. And he's not turning up in the biggest moments. In fact, in the biggest games, especially for his country, he's a hindrance. Quote

Can't compare them with real footballers, let's be serious. A separate award is definitely justified. Why there is a best striker award and not the other positions is ridiculous though. Unai Simon won the Yashin award. Justified? Not sure I could argue against him on this year alone. Had a look down the BD rankings. Rodri 4th and Kvaratskhelia 7th is ludicrous. Messi being well above Olise and Haaland is a joke, right? And perhaps most ridiculous, Julian Quinones and Sadio Mane cracked the top 30. Guess we at least know who the Mexican and Senegalese journos voted for. Quote

Olise was probably voted for the sheer number of assists. But et’s ignore the goals scored by Kane then shall we. To put the number of goals in for club and country is incredible. And he does it every year. Just this past year was special. 7 minutes ago, Tennessee Moltisanti said: Champions League He scored 14 goals. One behind Mbappe. Neither of whom won the champions league. Kvaratskeliah was the player of the tournament and he only finished 6th in the Ballon d’Or. Yamal wasn’t even in the team of the season or young player of the tournament for the Champions League. Or the World Cup. He had a good season at Barcelona and that’s it. As was pointed out, he didn’t have a great World Cup either. Quote
