Jeremy Stephens was 4 pounds overweight. 30% of purse but weigh in four pounds over and not have to bother about a bad cut? Sounds like a deal that's always worth it.

Stephens seems like he’s turned up just not giving a fuck for this. Missed weight yet was still flipping the crowd off and grabbing his cock on the scales at the ceremonial weigh in. He was having a moan about the UFC’s bonuses as well the other day. Something like the bonuses were pretty much the same back when he debuted back in 2007 and haven’t really increased much since. He clearly doesn’t care whether the UFC keep him around after this, he’s certainly not trying to stay in their good books anyway.

While I’m here, the usual fight day graphics. There was no face-off between Khamzat and Strickland at the weigh in because they didn’t let them near each other after Khamzat toe-poked him in the dick at the press conference staredown.

Really hope Strickland gets strangled. I’ve found it quite amusing this week seeing his brain dead fans acting like Khamzat’s the boring fighter out of these two and Strickland of all people is gonna be our saviour from boring fights. Hilarious. In 15 career fights, Khamzat’s had one fight you could argue was boring, the DDP one last time. One. Meanwhile ol’ Mr Jab-Teep-Meerkat stance is an exciting fighter to these fools. Yeah I’m going with Khamzat. If Strickland can weather the storm it might get interesting but I just don’t see him surviving five rounds tonight. I really hope he doesn’t as well because I don’t really wanna live in a world where Strickland has wins over Adesanya and Khamzat. Can you imagine how insufferable him and his fans would be if that became reality?

Fancy Taira to become the first Japanese UFC champ tonight. He’s gonna be the bigger man in there and I can see him giving Van real problems with his grappling.

Chiamev weight cut surely wont do him any favours at all. His frame is built for LHW surely.

Finding out what weight you are most efficient at is crucial in the ABAs and amateur MMA never mind the high levels of the UFC

Dehydrating yourself within an inch of your life has been a part of it for years.  You are usually most efficient when fighting people smaller than you, which is why guys are willing to half kill themselves to make a lighter weight-class.

In the interest of the fighters they should really do weigh-ins the day of the fight, but it is what it is.

100%, I boxed as a youth and boxing at the absolute best weight you can maintain speed & strength without being too drained is paramount

All I do now is go to the gym and lift heavy circles 🤣, but even still if I want to keep benching and squatting heavy weights, dropping absurb amounts of weight isnt going to do anything but see my lifts decrease

Some fighters are just better fighting in their natural class and for Chimaev that's got to be LHW.

Haha never putting him that category but as much as I can’t stand him he keeps finding these impressive results. With that said, how much do we think that was down to Khamzat having a bad weight cut and running out of gas, he looked done at the end of the second.

Really enjoy that card, didn’t see the early prelims but not a bad fight on the main card or prelims.

If people didn’t see the Amosov fight on the prelims, that finish was a thing of beauty. Take down into the submission, not quite as fancy as the DJ takedown to armbar but still really good!

Very interesting how by all accounts Strickland is a very polarising character and a bit of a nutter, but in the cage he is very methodical and doesn't engage where it's unnecessary. To me he has a very high fight IQ and is a disciplined fighter.

He'd be easier for people to get behind if he didn't rub all and sundry up the wrong way 🤣

At the end of the day though it is fighting, it's always attracted loony characters.

He looked awesome. The Bellator fighters took so much shit crossing over but Amosov, despite probably being the best of the bunch quietly snuck in the back door with little fuss. He looks a proper contender at 170.

This picture from the excellent co-main event:

Oh my god he fucking did it Strickland is the goat of middleweight because of this, I also found out he's only the second 2 time champion with izzy aswell what a world.

The person that beat the boogeyman was Sean Strickland holy shit.

And the comain delivered and produced another fight of the year contender back to back ppvs aswell. I had van losing by finish but he proved he is that good and not fighting up to the title means nothing he will win either way......if he beats pantojia definitively is he the best ever in flyweight and after Saturday I think he will retain and finish pantoja

Rest of the main card was excellent too along with most prelims.

How awful for Allen vs Costa this weekend no one is watching the fight night card against the netflix supershow they deserve more but shit happens

I disagree. Strickland's best wins at 185lbs are not that much different from DDP's, who shares the same era as him.

DDP's best wins: Strickland x2, Izzy, Whittaker

Strickland's best wins: Izzy, Chimaev, Costa (Strickland's win over Imavov came at 205lbs, so doesn't contribute towards his case for middleweight GOAT)

It's been a merry-go-round at 185lbs the past 3 or 4 years. By my count, there has only been 2 successful titles defences since November of 2022, namely DDP's defences against Izzy and Strickland. Strickland matches up very well against Izzy and to a lesser extent Chimaev (from the highlights I saw the fight this past weekend was very close, and most media members actually scored the bout to Chimaev), yet DDP clearly has Strickland's number and Pereira was a horrible match-up for him. In short, Strickland wins some and loses some against top middleweights, he doesn't dominate the division.

All in all, I would rate Strickland as one of the top middleweights of his era, and a strong contender for the top 5 middleweights of all-time, but he isn't the GOAT. I think that's still Anderson in retrospect, which surprises me, as I felt years ago that Izzy or someone else would surpass Anderson.

Stevens looked like shite in his bout. I am not on the socials, but I assume hes been let go already. Was a pretty entertaining beatdown though.

Brady looked good, but it must be alarming for him that he had so much full mount time, across multiple rounds, and still couldnt finish the job. Towards the end, him being in full mount didnt even seem that hugely dangerous to Buckley, and it looked like a lot of the time Brady was wasting his energy on some ineffective ground and pound. Still, very good win for him.

Did the Volkov fight even happen? Thankfully Ive wiped it from my memory. After a couple of amazing heavyweight fights this year, this was back to the dark ages for this one.

Van/Taira was a banger. Wont be a MOTY contender, but still a cracker. Must be an immediate rematch Id assume.

What a performance by Strickland. From R3, he managed to have the usual Strickland jab fest fight, which was crazy. The Chimaev bit in R2, when he was gassed and half heartedly rolled on to his back, was a legendary moment. The most visually defeated we have ever seen him, and the fact it happened in R2 makes it even more crazy. To be fair, he did recover after that, and held his own in the standup. I have no issue with Strickland getting the win, but would have said the same if the judges scored it for Chimaev. You have to give Strickland all the credit in the world too for surviving the R1 and R2 grappling onslaught. He was exceptional in protecting himself and making Chimaev work very hard, and it paid dividends from R3 onward. "Survive his grappling in the early rounds and win in the standup in the later rounds" has been the blueprint to beat Chimaev for years, but Strickland was the first to actually do it. Great stuff
