I know it's not really a thing, but we're wrestling fans on a wrestling fan forum, so let's dissect the hell out of this.

Shawn Michaels has been called "Mr. Wrestlemania". Prior to Heinrichulk Himmlerogan outing himself, I was more inclined to dispute this, as, without the Other Racist Orange Liar, McMahon wouldn't have had the confidence to go ahead with WM in the first place. Hogan was the headliner of the first eight Manias, and was the champ coming out of IX, so whilst I understood the WWF/E Propaganda Machine trying to push the idea of HBK being synonymous with the event prior to Hogan's return from the enemy, I didn't quite get why fans went along with the idea. That said, I can understand more of an argument for Michaels post-return, and definitely in marketing terms now that Hogan has goose-stepped back to Florida.

All of this ramble leads me to a point that only just occurred to me: when you consider the sheer number of bangers that Bret Hart had at Summerslam, if the title "Mr. Summerslam" were a thing to be handed out, wouldn't he be the prime candidate? And whilst he wasn't responsible for Summerslam being successful, he was at nine of the first ten. It's a pretty good list of excellent-to-decent matches:

88 - vs Demolition
89 - vs Brain Busters
90 - vs Demolition (2/3 falls)
91 - vs Perfect (IC title) - one of the most definitive matches ever, I think
92 - vs Bulldog (IC title) in front of one of WWF/E's biggest crowds
94 - vs Owen (WWF title cage match)
97 - vs. Undertaker (WWF title, HBK as guest ref)

What do you reckon? Is there anyone who might have a better Summerslam resumé?

Mr. The Summerslam.

Please.

Hogan's the one more likely to gesture "S S" in the air though

Great points Bomber. Undisputable. The Lawler deal at SummerSlam 93 is absolutely brilliant too. Not a great match, obviously but fantastic promo work and angle.

Bret's had the two best matches in WrestleMania history too. He's easily "Mr WrestleMania" an' all.

Shawn can be Mr In Your House.

I'd say he's easily "Mr. Wrestlemania" to me (and clearly you too), but I don't know if an objective argument could be made for that, much as I would like it to. Hogan is definitely the reason WM became what it did, and WM1 is probably the reason the WWF became wrestling, not to mention WM3 having one of the most iconic moments ever in wrestling, whilst HBK's body of work at WM is fairly substantial, pre- and post-absence.

But Summerslam? I don't think anyone touches him. The matches with Perfect and Bulldog alone outstrip anything else anyone else has done. And I say this as someone who lists the DX/Legacy match at 2009 as one of his personal all-time favourites.

Yes. In fact, the Doink/Lawler matches/angle mean that between King of the Ring and Mania X, Bret wrestled 10 matches in 5 PPVs. Iron man. And most of them were excellent.

Brock Lesnar has a very impressive collection of Summerslam matches too. As copied from chat GPT:

1. **2002**: Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock - WWE Undisputed Championship

2. **2003**: Brock Lesnar vs. Kurt Angle - WWE Championship

3. **2012**: Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H

4. **2013**: Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk

5. **2014**: Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena - WWE World Heavyweight Championship

6. **2015**: Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker

7. **2016**: Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton

8. **2017**: Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe vs. Braun Strowman - WWE Universal Championship

9. **2018**: Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns - WWE Universal Championship

10. **2019**: Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins - WWE Universal Championship

11. **2022**: Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns - Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship

His 2012-2017 run was outstanding,  and the 2022 match surpassed all expectations.

Also, whilst his match with The Rock was a hell of a moment - nobody had ever done that to him before - it wasn't necessarily a particularly great match. It was decent, but didn't go long enough to really get going. It was more a glorified angle than a match. I don't really remember the Angle match that well; I'm sure it was good, as they had great chemistry, but the WMXIX match is the one that stands out more to me, for good and bad reasons.

Unfortunately, the only match of his post-return run that I caught was his Extreme Rules bout with Cena, which was superb. But I stopped watching WWE shortly thereafter, so cannot comment, but I'll take your word for it that they're good.

And DavidB's right - he's a sex pest cunt, so I'm inclined to disqualify him anyway.

Yeah but he's a sex pest cunt, so it's Bret.

The Excellence Of Sexecution always made it consensual (emphasis on sensual) when he hit his sex six moves of doom.

Yeah Bret’s got Mr The SummerSlam sewn up. When the weakest match on the list is Demolition in 88, it says it all about the quality of the rest. Bret’s worst SummerSlam match is better than most wrestlers best. The others (especially the four you’ve listed from 91-97) are all probably comfortably in the Top 5 matches of their respective years.
