RedTwoster Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 (edited) I’ve not watched the full show so I have nothing to say about that, but Big Boom AJ vs QT Marshall on the pre-show was fun. Marshall deserves more TV time than he gets, he’s very good in his role. They made a mistake not running this on the PPV, given how much publicity it got them. Ditch the champagne celebration or MJF/Strong (or both) and you have the time you need, and the perfect opening match. Edited November 24, 2024 by RedTwoster Quote
DavidB6937 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Yeah it was clear that a lot of the interest on this show was towards that. They definitely had a few things they could've sacrificed to bump it up to the main show. Haven't got through all the show yet but it's another mostly solid one. Not surprising but nothing that's really won me over and made me more excited about the product either. They've definitely done better. Quote
Paid Members FLips Posted November 24, 2024 Paid Members Posted November 24, 2024 I know there's probably a hundred other examples, but it really annoys me that The Rizzler is richer now than I will ever be in my lifetime and he's just a morbidly fat kid that pulls a face. I would say it could go in the unjustified hatred thread, but the only thing unjust is that The Rizzler is so famous. Quote

Guest Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 (edited) This was a perfect storm to lead to the worst AEW PPV of all time for me. I'm in a terrible mood, struggling a bit with my mental health, the go home show was the worst dynamite ever and a lot of the big storylines haven't really gone anywhere. And then we had that first hour. But damn it all if they didn't pull me back in the end. The Tag four-way really took me back in time. Unfortunately, where it took me back to was 2010 Impact, with some quality workers having a fun multi man match ruined by terrible creative. That lastish exchange with the Acclaimed pinning each other just made everyone look incredibly stupid, and ruined the match. MJF vs Roderick Strong was exactly what we all thought. Something that would've been an alright main event for Collision, with a fairly crap finish. But good news wrestling fans, there was more undisputed drama! Don't care. Get these men away from each other, and from me. I didn't watch Mercedes v Statlander, because no one pays me to this and I decided staring blankly into space considering the gaping maw of eternity would be a better use of my time. I'm not as down on Jay White v Hangman as a lot of people are, as a feud. Jay White needs heating up after escaping injury and the Acclaimed Vortex, and Hangman needed a dance partner. I really like the ongoing storyline that White just has Hangman's number, and that is driving Ol'Hanger even more deranged. The match was good, but again as expected. Presumably this feud must continue. Fletcher vs Osprey was absolutely amazing. Why are we all banging on about Darby Allin winning the belt? Why are we not just having a coronation of Osprey being lined up? He's probably responsible for 4 of the best 5 matches in the US this year, and he's the biggest star in the company. This was the big win that Fletcher needed, and I'm hoping he goes on to do something cool now. Win the classic? Beat Daniel Garcia for the TNT? Team with Takeshita to win the trios titles 2 on 3? Whatever happens, absolute star. We wanted Toni Storm during the Champagne Babestation Celebration, but I actually really liked what they ended up doing. Mina dripping with blood, missing a tooth, screaming in betrayal at the broken Mariah at her feet? Fantastic. Loved her kicking the bottle out of Mariah's hand too. Oh, but here comes Daniel Garcia vs Jack Perry to bring back the spectre of shite. Jack Perry has been watching too much Raven, but at the same time, not nearly enough. Garcia's big win ruined by Perry's stupid pose and grinning. Rethink needed Jack, maybe go away for a bit. Takeshita vs Pinochet was...erm...there. I guess. It sort of delivered? toward the end? Is there a buyer's remorse section on that contract, Tony? I think it's possible that you signed Ricochet 5 years too late. Lashley vs Strickland wasn't great, and was probably the worst Swerve match I've seen in a long time. Hopefully Lashley just needs to adjust, but there's starting to be a theme with these old WWE guys isn't there? It did what it meant to do, which is make Lashley look like a hoss, but I don't know where he goes from here. Beating Swerve like that should lead to a championship match, but I can't see that happening. If they hadn;t attacked Nana after the match I'd have turned them babyface, but there we are. By this point, I wasn't sure what my expectations were for the Mox v OC title match, and to be honest was considering flicking through it. Glad I didn't, as that was excellent, and I loved watching OC get more vicious. I have absolutely no idea where he goes from here, though, wait, yes I do, winning the continental classic to build to OKADA. Book it Tony. But seriously, I really enjoyed it . OC didn't jsut sit there and take it, and there were just enough hope spots to make it feel like Cassidy might have a shot, when no one believed going in. The post match was really intriguing. Pleased they've returned to Jay White and Christian, because that had fallen by the wayside for a bit, though I assumed it would be Hook, which makes me wonder where he's gone. Hangman putting a stop to Moxley and Yuta attacking OC was great though. Too far, even for the man who burns down houses and drinks other people's blood. He's going to step in. That feud, if that's where they're going, may be the thing that gets AEW taken off the air as Hangman gets revenge for Mox taking two of his fingers by choking Yuta with his own spine. For the sickos. So yeah, definitely one of the weaker shows, with some bright stars in there. Edited November 24, 2024 by Duke Quote
DavidB6937 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 @Duke dare I say it was Mercedes' best outing in AEW for me. Not sure that says much but there were more skippable things on the show by a long shot. Might be worth a revisit if you find yourself at a loose end ? Quote

I may well go back to it. I loved heel Statlander, and am still bitter that they did this terrible face turn, and Mercedes has been fairly woeful other than against Willow, but if she's turning a corner that's great. Quote
Chili Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Yeah I'm not massively into Mercedes Mone but it was an absolute banger and not just Statlander pulling the match to that level. Really good and actually placed in the card well. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Not sure it'll make me a fan but definitely reminded me more of her best matches in WWE. Sadly I still find it difficult to invest in her as a performer so I never get an emotional connection to her matches and that's what keeps her down for me. Quote
Snitsky's back acne Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Have just seen a pic of MJF and need to ask whether AEW has a sponsorship deal with a tanning company? Also, small gripe, but if Mercedes can beat her opponents clean why does she need Kamille? Or is the story that Kamille is so useless she is actually better off without her? Quote

She bit her injured leg and scored a cheap opportunist roll-up pin. It's almost clean but it's definitely a desperate win, but I get what you mean by the point of Kamille. Quote

Cousin Jim Bob Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I thought it was your usual decent AEW PPV tbh. Where whatever is going on booking wise the wrestlers usually pull it together with their performances . Osprey vs Fletcher, Mone vs Statlander and the main event were all fantastic. Everything else was ok to pretty good. Really not sure about Lashley though. Was never a big fan of him in WWE and he hasn't exactly won me over in his appearances in AEW so far. Quote
Chili Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 (edited) Oh I actually thought the post-match stuff after the main was brilliant. I know it felt a bit too much going on, but incredibly it all made some sense. I'm really into the idea of the Cage/Page uneasy alliance, Christian basically using his contract and his guarantee he'll be the next champion to get Hanger on side to get the first title shot. Plus I like that Christian is doing this because he's a complete shithead and knows his back-up can't dent Moxley and co, so he's buttering up the arsonist. Father Christian is such a brilliant character. Edited November 24, 2024 by Chili Quote
