It’s awful news, and I don’t know how you handle it if you’re AEW. The Rebel Heart Dynamite was surely designed to do something positive, but this will make it much harder for them to do that.

For anyone keeping score, AEW just posted some Andrade highlights on social.

I get it's all scheduled in advance so your team can have a weekend off, but you have to have contingency for situations like this. Such an aeful, heartless look.

Whole community desperate for information and not only are you not sharing information on the horrible situation, you've also got no one thinking quickly enough to cancel the scheduled posts.

Just a real shame.

What a strange overreaction. 

Extremely sad news. He was really unique and had a very interesting story. Just always fun to see him on shows.

Mate, cool your jets, plus you are ridiculously exaggerating. They are not a media news source. They're not monitoring for when the Queen carks it. They'll do something. I know this pedantic to point out, but he's also not with AEW, hasn't been for a few months

Anyway to answer @RedTwoster I reckon you just pay tribute on Collision if you don't want to mix them up which is a difficult balance.

One of their wrestlers has died, apparently. 

The music community has rallied around pretty much immediately, whereas AEW is posting highlights of Andrade despite Butcher's death being confirmed by TMZ 2 hours ago.

When I, or my teams, have managed social channels for sports teams/leagues, there is a crisis comms contingency that kicks in when something like this happens. Number one is, cancel the scheduled posts and address the situation as soon as you can.

I'd consider unrelated highlights going up in the middle of a breaking death story to be right up there in terms of comms disasters to be honest.

Stu Grayson is on Instagram paying tribute to The Butcher so I guess we can take it as confirmed now. 

 

Loved the big man and if there was a heavyweight division he'd have been a big part of it. Loved the 'lunge walk' he'd do around the ring and for a big man he moved very well and was a believable character.

Believability is such a good word for him. Despite coming to the game late, he seemed to have really good instincts and, as others have said, a really elite look.

It's not a race mate. Their tribute won't be any less heartfelt because they didn't post it fast enough for people refreshing social media channels. God I can't stand that attitude.

I'm not saying it's a race. I'm saying I would assume AEW have, unfortunately for them, the responsibility to lead the conversation from a comms perspective and provide some clarity.

In the same way football teams do if a player passes.

I mean, they've deleted the Andrade post as that was clearly a fuck up and the comments of people losing their mind was unnecessary uncertainty.

My point is more, people generally require clarity. Wrestling doesn't really have an authority in the same way as other sports, but in that vaccuum - I would assume AEW would be the ones to step up.

That's separate to any tribute or heartfelt message. I just mean the process of someone who people really trust saying 'yes, this has happened'.

But, equally, I appreciate i'm derailing the thread and I shouldn't be as I love the Butcher and i'm gutted. I would just say the music side of social has handled this in a far less messy way, with fans able to share their grief together. Wrestling fans are still arguing about whether its true. I just hope someone fills that gap quickly, so people can properly commemorate a quality wrestler and, seemingly, a very good bloke.

Jesus Christ, shut the fuck up daz!

Tragic news. By all accounts (and every podcast or interview I personally saw of the man) he was a lovely, brilliant bloke. Very underrated as a wrestler too. I always enjoyed his work. He went through a period of doing singles matches on Rampage that I really enjoyed. Proper meat and potatoes wrestler who was a breath of fresh air in the current scene. Must have been very traumatic for the wrestlers and staff working the show, hope they're getting the support they need. Just a terribly sad thing.

I think it’s worth pointing out that he wasn’t one of their wrestlers anymore, both he and The Blade left the company earlier this year.
