Pour one out tonight for the people working on this who will now be in crunch for the next 12-18 months, Rockstar have a reputation as one of the worst offenders when it comes to crunch, very old-school still.

You'll know better than me, but isn't a 2025 date to eliminate "crunch" or whatever?

Personally I'm dreading the "social commentary" we're likely to get if 5 is any kind of indicator. I always thought that it was such a cynical downgrade after what 4 managed to do.

Regarding development time, I wonder how much of the staff were working on the ongoing GTA Online before 6 was started as that was the biggest money earner for the company I'm sure.

The game was meant to be smaller wasn’t it? I’m sure after their grilling over the Red Dead crunch they were meant to take measures to address how to avoid crunch but I’m sure it’ll still be there under the guise of voluntary overtime or some shit where the culture of the company is still that you all stay or you’re letting your team mates down. Same beast different disguise.

I think they're going to be clever enough this time around to avoid punching down. If the subtext of the game pisses anyone off, it'll be the people who are forever offended that you can't offend anymore, taking offence at the game offending them. There's a lot of really good social narrative out there they can play on this time around, whereas GTA V seemed to come at an odd point in history post Bush and pre Trump. The whole point of it seemed to just be the chaos and fakery of excess capitalism, and it wound up becoming life imitating art through its endless re-releases and online monetisation. I'm totally up for more heart in it this time around, which might be possible if they've gone with a couple as the leads. Yeah, yeah, you can still have them get in a car and run over everyone in sight but that's player agency. It'd be nice to have you actually root for them for a change.

Mostly I just hope they overhaul the mission structure. Especially the main story missions. Give me player choices that matter more than just affecting one future mission or whichever smart arse dialogue line gets triggered. I want to fuck around with one family/gang and be frozen out of being able to deal with another because of it. I want missions where if you've failed them, that's just tough luck. No replays.

And - I feel like this is pissing in the wind with games at this stage - no RPG lite skill trees. Please. If they get a little stronger or faster through player effort that's fine, but I don't want my main character to be a big drooling baby who can barely land a punch, and wind up being superman sixty hours later because I've pressed the next shining thing on the menu.

My sides.  Maybe the culture at Rockstar has changed but I've not heard that.

It depends, doesn't it? I mean, how long as this game been in the works for? Not a decade. They got working on RDR 2 in 2013. So I'd say 2019, Was THE EARLIEST it was worked on.

There's more than one Rockstar dev team.  The Red Dead game have been developed I think by Rockstar San Diego, wheras the GTA titles are mainly Rockstar North.  I'd wager this game has been in constant development, if only engine upgrades, since 2013.

It''s also worth remembering that a LOT has happened at Rockstar since GTAV, not least the enormous fiasco surrounding Rockstar North's studio head leaving in 2014 and then suing the company.

There’s a lot more they can do with a Bonnie and Clyde story set against a world obsessed with social media. You get all your usual GTA humour but hopefully with a more heartfelt story. Then again if they do offend anyone I hope it’s anyone looking to be offended. I’ve never really thought of GTA punching down but more windmilling in all directions (a point I’m sure I’ve made on here before). Rich white yuppies are as big a target as hippy lefty vegans. We’re all cunts, they’re all cunts. Just leave the centrist dads alone dammit!

Im curious as to what they'll do with GTA Online. It's a stand alone game these days so I'm curious if it'll remain and get small updates for some time and we get an all new GTA 6 online or something like that.

I hope its a fresh start. No oppressor nonces please.

Streaming of Love Is A Long Road was up by 37,000% last week and most of that was me I think, what a banger

I’ve jumped back into GTA Online which has grown massively since I last played a few years ago. I’ve now got people phoning me up telling me to buy hangars and offices, go to the casino, take on big heists, start a motorcycle club and even take part in stunts. It’s completely overwhelming but I’m enjoying a slow methodical approach to exploring the new stuff.

I’m worried 6 will be like this but in single player mode. Endless add ons and activities popping up to keep player engagement. I’m a completionist so I want to hit that 100% at some point!

Ive watched the trailer a dozen more times and a few breakdowns. I love how it feels like a connected world with previous games - the same products in the shops that are in V, and other things coming back like Weazel News. This is a GTA story set in the GTA world. The GTAGU.

At first 2025 seemed so far away but I’m not bothered now. Gives me 2024 to tinker with Online, get 100% on PS4 GTAV (currently at 94%) and play through it again proper on PS5. Maybe even go back to my safe space and play through the trilogy again. Give the remasters a spin even though I don’t think they got reviews.

So yeah I’ve been listening to podcasts, watching YouTube, playing the game and reading articles about GTA. I feel like the Vicar of Dibley stuffing multiple Christmas dinners in her gob but I’m loving it

I know it's a game, but going back to GTA Online after an extended period off was quite daunting to me. I get overwhelmed very easily and there was just too much getting thrown into my face. I started to get into it and before long I had amassed about 30 million and owned all of the businesses I fancied (Cayo Perico heist is king) but it just felt like I was grinding and not really having fun it so I sacked it off again.

The new trailer release and the Online Winter update (which is out in about 5 minutes) has drawn me back in.

I reckon I'll be bored/burned out by Christmas.
