Another fantastic Fanatical bundle here - you’re able to get a lot of great games for as little as £7 - I’d recommend Shadows of Doubt, Cryptmaster and Mika and the Witch’s Mountain without hesitation - I’ve heard Eternights is a bit like Persona, but I’ve never played it.

EDIT: Don’t buy Ghostbusters as part of your bundle - it’s cheaper on Steam right now, at £6.70.

There are a few games I like on sale on the Steam store too:

Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore - £7.53 (55% off, was £16.75)

I’ve recommended this one before, so I won’t say much about it - but this is the lowest price I’ve seen it at, so it merits a mention. It’s a metroidvania, based on the old Zelda account games. Unlike those, it’s actually very good. It takes the idea and makes a good game out of it.

Dream Tactics (£9.09, 35% off - was £13.99)

A GBA-style card-based tactical RPG. I don’t really like card-based RPGs, but this one really won me over. I bought it because I was looking for a game resembling Pokémon Trading Card Game, and I saw someone recommend this online. They were wrong to do so as it’s not overly similar, but I enjoyed it a heck of a lot anyway. It’s a really creative take on the genre. 

Minishoot Adventures (£8.95, 30% off, was £12.79)

A cross between old-school 2D top-down Zelda and a bullet hell shooter. Much like the last game, this takes a genre I’m not a huge fan of (bullet hell, in this case) and turns it into something I like. It’s tough at times, but in an enjoyable way - it’s fast, colourful and a load of fun.

Buckshot Roulette (£1.99, 20% off - was £2.49)

It’s a Russian Roulette horror game. And it’s great fun multiplayer - and incredibly tense. Although there’s obviously luck involved, there’s an element of strategy involved too and psyching one another out. For £1.99, you might as well!

Batman Arkham Origins is only £2.99 on Steam right now. It’s a game a lot of us - myself included - overlooked at the time due to middling reviews, but it’s great. I feel like I’ve discovered a lost Arkham game, even though it’s not by Rocksteady; or officially part of their timeline. It’s far better than Arkham Knight in my opinion, mainly because there’s no Batmobile.

It works like a dream on the Steam Deck, even though it’s marked as unsupported. I’ve had a look online and although I’ve seen examples of a handful of people running into issues, most have not, and I’ve completed it without running into any significant problems or adjusting the settings. It’s definitely worth getting if you own a Steam Deck.

It’s the Steam Spring Sale, so naturally, here’s another post from me in my ongoing quest to empty your bank account. There are some superb deals as you’d expect, and here are some of the highlights. I’m going to try recommend games I’ve not recommended before but I’ve done a few of these now, so apologies if there’s duplication!

Bear’s Restaurant (30% off - £7.20, was £10.29)

Right from the bat, I’ll say don’t be fooled by the cutesy visuals. This game deals with some heavy subjects including suicide, so be warned. Think Omori, except not quite as dark, it still tugs on the heartstrings, though. I’m kind of wary about saying too much about this one, as it’s best experienced blind. But if you liked Omori or Undertale, I think you’ll enjoy this one. It’s a short game too, which is a real plus point. I really enjoyed it, and that’s all I’ll say.

Strangeland (70% off - £3.41, was £11.39)

I didn’t intend to make this a post about games that deal with heavy themes…but this is a game that deals with heavy themes, including depression. It’s a point-and-click psychological horror game with grotesque visuals and an almost Lynchian sense of weirdness. Set in a sort of carnival of horrors, the game starts off with a woman hurling herself down a well, something which she does repeatedly because death works differently in this world. You make it your mission to save her. But you don’t know who you are or why you’re there - so there’s an added mystery to it all. The game purposely makes you feel uncomfortable and it’s definitely not for everyone, but I thought it was excellent.

The Longest 5 Minutes (80% off £3.99 - was £19.99

I’m yet to complete this one, but I like the premise what what I’ve played so far. In short, it’s a JRPG which starts at the final boss. The story is told through out-of-order flashbacks as you slowly progress through this fight to the death. It’s a really interesting way of dealing with a game like this, and although it’s flawed (with some 90s WWE-style naming conventions - the lead character is called ‘Flash Back’) I like what they’re trying to do, so with the discount being as steep as it is, I’m happy to list it in my recommendations.

Mullet MadJack (25% off - £12.71, was £16.95

Apparently this has recently been added to Game Pass, but it’s so much enjoyable I’m recommending it anyway. It’s an FPS where you have 10 seconds to kill an enemy, or you die. You have to keep killing enemies to stay alive, and progress. It’s short, fast and a tonne of fun. Although it’s very different, it reminded me of Hotline Miami, it’s an exhilarating play-through.

It’s fine. Like that TNA Impact game from the late 00’s, although better, it just lacked a final polish and replay ability. Clearly it cost more to develop then anticipated, and longer, so added some mini games and hoped it sold well enough to recoup the initial investment and find a sequel. And only succeeded at the former. It’s definitely worth that. I paid £30 for it and didn’t feel completely ripped off at the time. I’ve  paid more for worse.

It’s pretty fun, to be fair. Annoyingly, it’s gone from being verified on Steam Deck to being categorised as Unsupported, and for good reason as - for me at least - it stopped working. If you force it to use another version of Proton - 7, I think, and it seems to work OK.

But yeah, I’d say it’s worth a pick-up at that price. It’s a blast multiplayer - you can turn the ring into a a murder scene there’s that much blood, ride around on a skateboard and do other things that are genuinely hilarious. The recent WWE games are objectively better, but I’m not sure I’ve ever had as much fun with friends playing a wrestling game as I did this one - it looks messy as fuck and it feels unfinished at the best of times, but it really is good fun.

Cruelty Squad is finally under a fiver on Steam and just be my favourite modern FPS, it looks fucking ugly and is purposefully obtuse as hell but it's in no way "lol random". It's Deus Ex if made by Nick Land before he went total right wing nutjob, transhumanism in the worst state of hypercapitalism and raging at it.

I’d not heard of this, but I’ve picked it up based on this recommendation. It sounds interesting!

You’re looking at £13.32 if you want to get the DLC with it, which is still a really good price. I don’t have the DLC so can’t speak for whether or not it’s worthwhile, but I do think the base game is.

Apparently it’s for 15 wrestlers and 4 mini games. Here’s an exact list of what it gives you.

I don’t personally care about CAWs, but if that’s something you value, you’d likely have felt ripped off if you bought the game at full price. It’s limited to the extreme by modern standards.

For the price you’d pay for it on Steam, I’d say it’s worthwhile - particularly if your set-up allows for multiplayer. The single player is fine, but it’s with friends when this game shines - likely why it won a few game show awards before it was released. When you’re playing it with others, it’s a very good time indeed. 

The base roster feels a bit dated now, but it looks like the DLC brings it fairly up-to-date.
