Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted September 20, 2020 Author Paid Members Share Posted September 20, 2020 @Panhead Yeah, I’ve made peace with the fact that Walker’s never going to be champ. I think the best hope for him is he even gets a crack at the belt once. He’s ace though. And if Jon Jones doesn’t come back to the division, well I guess Walker has a better chance than he previously would’ve. 205 without Jones really is wide open. You take Reyes, Blachowicz, Santos, Teixeira, Rakic, Oezdemir, Walker, Prochazka, Ankalaev etc and mix them up in a tournament and I wouldn’t be confident picking one guy above the others to come out with the gold. Nobody is head and shoulders above the rest there and you could easily see any of them catching any of the others on a given night. So while there’s definitely a big void at 205 now with Jones out of the picture, it’s still an interesting mix.
Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted September 21, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted September 21, 2020 (edited) I have to say, I fucking love Niko Price. He's an absolute lunatic, in the most wonderful, complimentary sense of the word. Look at this, he's like Buddy from Elf. It's so lovely: I really, really want to see him and Pereira go at it next. Paid Members WeeAl Posted September 21, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted September 21, 2020 Rest In Peace the new Gerald Meerschaert, we hardly knew ye. He got spotlight this week that he has never really had. With a good performance here, he really could have had a late career surge. Unfortunately it was not to be, instead he got knocked straight into 2021. So, how do we think this Chimaev V Maia fight is going to look? I can't wait to see that one. The main event was the most predictable fight this year, outside of something involving Amanda Nunes or Valentina Shevchenko. I feel for Woodley with the way it ended, as him having to call it off like that, in a fight with someone like Colby, is one that will have really stung I'm sure, and Colby isn't the type to let him forget it. Walker somehow managed to get the KO finish, despite being on dream street himself a few times. He's always going to be exciting to watch because as flashy and offensive as he can be, he's right there for the taking as well. I feel like he's a win one, lose one type of fighter if he continues to fight high level competition. I'm ok with that. When he loses, drop him back a step let him get a highlight reel KO and then give him another good name. He's not the type of guy I would put a single penny of my money anywhere near though. Cowboy is pretty much at the end isn't he? I like Niko Price, but he is a substantial drop back in ability from the people he has lost to in his last four. If not for the eye poke resulting in the point loss, this would be five dropped in a row by Cowboy on my scorecard. #Oldguyfightsonly please.
Kfogg1991
I'm more excited too see who dana sets up to fight Chimaev on fight island as they have said he will be going out there. In terms of how it goes against Maia i think it is going to be a very very bad night for him and not the swan song anyone on earth would want to be a part of
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted September 21, 2020 Author Paid Members Share Posted September 21, 2020 (edited) Chimaev’s already on Fight Island, that’s where this card was. I think they’re over there until the Khabib vs Gaethje card now then it’s back to Vegas and the APEX. So I think Chimaev is just going to hang out over there and see what pops up. I’m hoping Maia just retires. Or maybe faces someone more from his era. There was talk of him and Diego Sanchez tangling a while back. Do that. I’d actually be interested to see Diego go up against a ground specialist for a change and not someone who’s primarily looking to scramble his brains. People forget Diego can grapple too. It’d be a fun farewell fight for Maia. I wouldn’t rule out Maia catching Chimaev if it hit the ground. You’d be mad to. But the problem with that matchup for Maia is, Chimaev would probably look to keep it standing and with his grappling base he might be able to. On the feet it probably gets ugly for Maia. It’s not the best of fights stylistically for Maia, and even worse timing wise for where they both are in their careers. Oh and @Scott Malbranque Niko Price vs Michel Pereira?! Now that’s a fight. Never even occurred to me that they’re both Welters. If Price vs Pereira and Walker vs Prochazka don’t get booked now coming off this show I’ll be gutted. Edited September 21, 2020 by wandshogun09

I mean why the hell not, The guy has taken 0 damage in all 4 fights and he is chomping at the bit and would fight every week if they let him so just build the beast up and strike while the fire is hot if he is willing to do this crazy schedule.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted September 21, 2020 Author Paid Members Share Posted September 21, 2020 True but I think they should also be careful. There’s always the risk they burn him out if they have him fighting every month. No matter how easily you’re winning, fighting back-to-back-to-back-to-back like this could backfire. Plus, even though they’re making a big thing about him taking no damage in the fights so far (and it is impressive), who knows what’s going on in sparring? It’s easy to forget about that sometimes because we only see the fight at the end of it all. But a good chunk, maybe even the majority, of damage a fighter takes in their career happens in the gym. Not saying he’s been beat up in sparring or anything. And how quick the fights came together would limit his opportunities to get in ‘gym wars’ anyway. But we also can’t just assume he’s damage free after fighting 3 times in the last couple of months because we’ve only seen the fights themselves, not how he got there. Damage isn’t always strikes you absorb either. He could’ve injured his hand punching Gerald’s head in, rolled an ankle jogging, anything. I’m waffling but you know what I mean.
David
Just watched this, and fucking hell. Colby Covington doesn’t seem to have any weaknesses at all, does he? he has cardio for days, his striking is relentless, his footwork is great, his defensive wrestling is excellent, his offensive wrestling is a constant threat, his clinch work is awesome. i don’t think anyone else really comes close to competing with him bar Usman. Both of those guys are far and away the best in the division for me.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted September 22, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted September 22, 2020 (edited) yeh, i cant disagree. They are the hardest type of fighter to beat. Cardio, volume, toughess and the solid wrestling game as a foundation. Tyron Woodley literally had a punchers chance against Covington. If they fought 100 rounds i think Covington would win every single one. I would like to see Covington and Usman match up with both Leon Scott and Gilbert Burns but outside of those its slim picking in terms of who could beat them. Maybe Chimaev has the answer? Edited September 22, 2020 by Egg Shen

Moderators neil Posted September 22, 2020 Moderators Share Posted September 22, 2020 Covington strikes me as a very frustrating person to fight, both in his personality and his style of fighting. Just someone who is very hard to get anything going against. Was pretty disheartening seeing Woodley going against him, every fight I want to see Covington destroyed, but also realize against many many fighters it simply isn't going to happen. Woodley is done, he needs to retire. This feels like the 3rd fight where he's CLEARLY been losing and just takes the approach of throwing less strikes and being less aggressive. Covington's shit post-fight was gross and I'd like to see Usman break his jaw again.
