Looks like Josh Taylor should be hanging up the gloves soon. Moved up to 147lbs last night and got soundly beaten by Ekow Essuman last night in Glasgow. Pulled his usual faces as if it was a robbery and then stormed out the ring, no post fight interview.

Did well at the start of the fight, but towards the 2nd half of the fight he gassed. Essuman who's nicknamed "the engine" took over and that's what won him the fight.

Taylor does seem to be the only one who thinks he won. I thought the scorecards were pretty fair, you could even have had it wider for Essuman. Taylor should hang them up now. The glory days are well and truly over as he has lost his last 3 fights and arguably his last 4. 

Moses Itauma continues to knock people the fuck out. Balogun is not a great fighter, but he's no mug. Cracking finishing punch.

It was a cracking show last night. 4 fight main card, boxing shows never need to be more than that from a TV perspective, main event walking at 9:30, so refreshing.

Taylor was soundly beaten, it was about even until half way then Essuman pulled away with it. Going in against a guy known for pushing the pace down the stretch seems like an awful idea in hindsight. What a fall from grace for Taylor, his place in history is secured but his legacy is no doubt tarnished by what's happened since the first Catterall fight.

Moses Itauma continues to look frightening at Heavyweight. I'm still holding off all judgement until he fights someone who hits him back, but he's putting away decent heavies with ease. Talk of a Bakole fight is ramping up. I'd pick Itauma.

 

 

Did anyone see the GBM show Friday? It was good until an absolute horrid double bill on top. Maxi Hughes/Archie Sharp will go down as one of the worst fights of the year, and weirdest. Archie Sharp and his corner acted the whole way through like they were coasting it. Showboating, celebrating at ends of rounds all whilst doing pretty nothing. He lost a decision, one judge didn't even give him a round. Just can't see how a fighter and experienced corner could get it so wrong.

Caleb Plant is back out this weekend, I always enjoy Plant fighting, and I think he's a decent character aswell with lots of resolve.

I always think that "Lots of resolve" means easy to hit. Caleb certainly has a lot of resolve.

Boxing promoters need to realise they have to strike when the irons hot. "Set up" are always a bad idea. First Garcia lost, now Plant. Just make the fights that matter.

Man, these high profile American boxers continue to fumble the bag. Keyshawn Davis had a show built around him in his hometown this weekend. He turned up 4.5lb overweight, vacated his title and apparently danced on the scale afterward whilst his team offered more money to his opponent to just fight anway. Edwin De Los Santos called his bluff and just cancelled the fight, Keyshawn left looking like a berk.

Anyway's, tonight we got some British Stadium shows to enjoy instead tonight:

Davis has let everyone down and messed up big time here. Good on De Los Santos to call his bluff and not take the fight knowing its going to cost him his pay day, but you can't be going into the ring with someone who has come in that overweight and made no real effort to reach the weight limt before or after the weigh in to try losing some more lbs. I'm assuming Top Rank are absolutely fuming with him as well for this unprofessional behavior. 

I think Simpson wins by decision and Wardley wins by stoppage between 8-10 rounds. 

Two boxing stadium fights on same night, in the same country, impressive. Last I heard the Simpson's fight had sold at least 15,000 tickets already, I'm not sure about Wardley but I assume he will get fairly close to selling out Portman Road!

Yeah, according to Fight Disciples, Wardley had done 20,000 tickets at the start of the week. Both shows should be well attended. I'm going to watch the Ipswich show live but will definitely check out the Simpson/Zucco fight.

Wow, boxing is still as bent as it was in the 50's. Wardley soundly losing the fight. Knocks down his opponent in the 10th. Camera immediately pans to Hearn and Warren. Pans back, fighter is up before 10 and the ref is calling off the fight. Huni was easily winning the fight and no chance to continue. So fucking shady.
