Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted May 23 Paid Members Posted May 23 It was definitely one sided for Cormier but I remember loving it at the time. Maybe a lot of my positivity was just me being impressed by Cormier having such a strong performance against a guy like Barnett though. Maybe it wouldn’t hold up now. Probably a touch of the old rose tints, to be fair. Quote
jimufctna24 Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Coker's has a boner over old-school K1, which is why he is pro-tournament. He's mentioned it in the past. Coker did get rid of the season long tournament format in 2014, but then brought back tournament GPs. I actually liked that he brought back GPs, because instead of basing the entire promotion around tournaments (which I dislike), they could cherry pick the most stacked divisions to use for GPs and leave the rest of the divisions tournament-less. Some of the Bellator GPs were decent from memory (the HW one Dai mentioned was shit though) Either way, Coker probably will not have access to enough talent to make GPs viable, let alone a promotion based around tournament (which as I stated, I dislike anyway). Dai Posted May 28 Posted May 28 After seeing those Till pics in the BKFC thread, I think the only genuine alternative MMA organisation would be an 'enhanced games' version, where you have the has beens and the never was fighters who can pump themselves with all the PEDs they want, to gain the best edge in their fights. Between that, and having a tourney that lasts for just the night, then I think they are the only things I could think of as being a unique selling point to a new company. Quote
NeverYield Posted May 28 Posted May 28 I don't want to derail the thread totally but since Till, gear and the Enhanced Games have been mentioned I just want to wade in with the fact (and I'm sure many people are aware of this) that in top flight sport, a hell of a lot of competitors are juicing, and ones who don't get caught are ones who have, or have a team with a great knowledge of how to circumvent testing. The key is in the esters of the steroids they will be taking, and lot's of people in sports have got taking short acting esters down to a fine art, then you have your hyper responders, who can micro dose almost any compound and just react dramatically to it, and the type of steroid an athlete will take, oral vs injectible, for a quick acting bang a lot will take orals. Even amongst regular gym goers you've got people claiming natural who may not be on a full blown stack or cycle but are on SARMs or peptides, or again you may have people who micro dose and claim to be natural, going on a massive tangent here but I've been reading lots of the discusion in all sorts of places lately particularly with the Enhanced Games and whether it's boxing, sprinting, MMA, I think the amount of people juicing would shock lot's of people, I don't want to blindly say everyone at the top level is juicing, but imo it's pretty damn close to that to some degree, and the fact of the matter is a lot of things top flight athletes put their bodies through we're just not designed for long term, couple that with the fact that once a man hits 30 natural test levels slowly start to deplete, and we see lots of athletes continue on way past that, I think it's pretty prevalent across the board. Dai Posted May 29 Posted May 29 (edited) Yeah, I always work on the assumption that the PEDs for the elite athletes is alot like the Mafia vs the law, or cyber criminals against the law, in that the authority is always playing catch up with the people breaking the rules. The ones breaking the rules are always two steps ahead, so I assume when theres millions of dollars on the line and super small margins of advantage, then lots of high level athletes are doing all sorts. That's a great way to word it mate and I agree with that 100%. Quote

Paid Members Carbomb Posted June 23 Paid Members Posted June 23 Seems Dustin Poirier got tight, got kicked off his plane, and then got arrested after kicking off at everyone. Disappointing. https://www.reddit.com/r/UFCposting/s/YeXd1Rujcd Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted June 24 Paid Members Posted June 24 Get the impression Poirier is struggling since retiring, he's appeared looking pissed up on numerous occasions in interviews and things. If he has issues I hope the guy pulls it together. Quote

Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted July 30 Paid Members Posted July 30 Looks like MVP MMA and PFL are joining forces. I don’t wanna shit on this before it even gets going, we’ll see how it goes. But what does this actually mean? There’s still the same pool of talent out there, some really good fighters but hardly any names you can build a promotion around. They just let one of the best non-UFC fighters Salahdine Parnasse go to the UFC. What even was MVP MMA? It was one show and the main star of it Ronda Rousey has pissed off back into retirement. What’s actually gonna be different than standard PFL other than the name and some of it being on Netflix maybe? I’d love to see something take off but all they have really is Dakota Ditcheva in terms of young fighters with a bit of the ‘it factor’. The names like Ngannou, Cyborg etc are all 40-odd. I read that Usman Nurmagomedov’s fight tomorrow is the last on his contract as well. They better get him locked up or he’ll be UFC bound. They really can’t afford to lose any more good fighters right now. Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted July 30 Paid Members Posted July 30 Also, the shitter name is being used. PFL actually sounds like a sport. MVP just sounds like spiv-speak. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted July 30 Paid Members Posted July 30 I dont know what it means exactly but MVP seem to know how to promote so this can only be a good thing for the PFL which has been treading water (whilst putting on good quality events). Quote
