Fog Dude
You already made your picks for the New Year games a week ago, ultimo. This is meant to be that one week in the middle of the season where you can relax and not worry about getting a post in before Saturday afternoon! Fog Dude
First of all I hope everyone had a good festive period. I certainly sympathise with anyone who could barely keep track of what day of the week it was. The results for Week 20A went into the opening post just over a week ago, with those for the next 20 matches following last night. A link to the updated table and the subsequent set of 30 will follow soon after this goes up. Figuring out everyone's score took 3 times as much concentration as usual, so do let me know promptly if you think I've got yours wrong and I can look again to correct it. In ultimo's case I accepted his first lot of picks. It's up to him if he wants to check if he'd have scored more had I used his later post to work out his score. The average haul this time out was 21 points. It's not hard to calculate that this is the equivalent of 7 points in an ordinary round, which is on the middling side of things. Anyway, Stinky Dad looks like running away with this! It could be as good as all over in a fortnight if the rest of us don't buck up our ideas, lads. The leader was joint top scorer and goes a whopping 29 points clear at the summit. Glenryck made up for his time away in (presumably) the Lake District by sharing best performer honours, and closed the gap on Grecian to a single point. So, at least we have something of an exciting battle at the other end of the standings. TildeGuy slipped further down the chasing pack as equal lowest scorer – a status he shares with Zebra Kid Mark, who is in danger of sliding back into trouble since he appears to have got no three-pointers at all in a treble round! I was the only other participant with more than 3 exact scores, but that sort of disguises the fact that I only 13 results right... that's joint second lowest alongside Rory. Mr Fice was the sole player to get the scoreline correct from Old Trafford on New Year's Eve, with both Manchester clubs' home wins coming about by smaller margins than were generally expected. Chelsea's comfortable victory over Bournemouth way back on Boxing Day proved most fruitful of all, but a score draw at The Stadium of Light caught quite a few people out. The away triumph in the Old Firm derby was almost universally good for one-pointers, but elsewhere on Hogmanay, two 1-1 draws right in the centre of the card in the English third tier turned out to be the most difficult outcomes to foresee. Crucial single-goal successes for struggling Cardiff and Blackburn against freshly relegated promotion-chasing sides (not to mention with higher-profile managers) were also tough to guess beforehand. We're not going to go through all the other clashes, but I'd just mention last that nobody thought Notts County would capitulate as easily as they did at the Abbey Stadium. Unsurprisingly that ended up as John Sheridan's last game in charge of the Magpies.
