wordsfromlee Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Has anyone listened to the new Slum Village record? I've seen some mildly positive stuff about it but I've only ever really listened to the Dilla-era stuff. Quote

I didn't even know they were still going, and now it's (understandably) just T3 and some lad called Young RJ who is a new name to me. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted May 31, 2024 Members Posted May 31, 2024 Did anyone else know that The Roots, De La Soul and The Pharcyde are playing Crystal Palace? https://southfacingfestival.com/event/the-roots/ Nope, me neither. Margate the next day, and incredibly reasonable prices! Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted June 7, 2024 Paid Members Posted June 7, 2024 Loving this; There’s a track with Skyzoo on there as well who I’m a big fan of. Also, Method Man still going strong after all these years… Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted June 8, 2024 Members Posted June 8, 2024 Oddisee has a fantastic new EP And Yet Still out. Probably the most consistent artist of the last 10 years or so and this is absolutely gorgeous stuff. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted June 14, 2024 Members Posted June 14, 2024 Really enjoyed this new LL song, produced by Q-Tip. Quote
Paid Members DCW Posted July 13, 2024 Paid Members Posted July 13, 2024 Went to see Cypress Hill with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in the Royal Albert Hall there on Wednesday just gone with 2 of my hip hop loving pals. I sorta just tagged along for the trip over/pints and wasn't sure what to expect, but it was really good and they did play that clip from The Simpsons at the start which was really cool. Was so interesting seeing all the musicians at work too, though felt sorry for the giant xylophone-playing lad closest to us who didn't have all that much to be doing. Felt slightly odd to be singing along to songs like 'I wanna get high' and 'when the shit goes down' in such a classy looking venue too! Quote

Had a chance to check this out on the bus home today and it's great! It feels like the album Nas has been trying to make for the last 10 years. It's exactly what you'd expect from a Pete Rock and Common album. Common is on top cheesy form ("I'm a gladiator, glad I ate her, are you not entertained?"....alright mate) and while he gets a bit too referential "Faith like Evans" "cents like Fiddy" etc, he has an effortless flow and is always listenable. Top shit. Think this is my favourite track. More old man contemporary rap please. Quote
Zaheer Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 I wasnt sure where I could post this but wanted to share it with the good folks at UKFF. I did a hip hop remix mashup of a ton of WWE themes:- Also recently produced this for Lio Rush Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted July 28, 2024 Members Posted July 28, 2024 DJ Polo has sadly passed away. https://www.complex.com/music/a/markelibert/dj-polo-kool-g-rap-has-died Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted July 31, 2024 Members Posted July 31, 2024 (edited) God I've become the Olympic Hero Pete of the rap thread, but sad to report that Chino XL died on the 28th of July, aged 50. Edit: Just to add something positive, probably my favourite song he was on. Everyone's verse is good (yes even RZA) but the KRS bit is shit. Edited July 31, 2024 by SuperBacon Sway and Tech This Or That is fantastic and I wish I still had the CD Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted September 19, 2024 Members Posted September 19, 2024 Been really enjoying the Phiik and Lungs album Carrot Season. If you liked Company Flow, or any of the stuff that came out on Anticon or Def Jux back in the day you'll probably like this. Those feel like fairly reductive references, but this is breathless, complicated rap so it fits. Really dope. Quote
