Hogan was in one of them moods on Howard Stern a few months back and when Stern said "with this sex tape out its probably not the best idea to be working for a company called TNA" and Hogan said "I know, I thought we changed the name and they still use it". I have no idea what the point in remaining it was when they still use it. Even if its TNA, use one or the other. I remember they were going to call it Impact Pro Wrestling or Impact Championship Wrestling or something, so when they changed it to TNA presents Impact Wrestling, it just confused everyone.

I think they changed it for vanity purposes. Where Hogan or Bischoff or RVD or someone just tells their mates "I work for Impact Wrestling" instead of having to explain what TNA is. They should have changed the name when they first got on Spike.

Raw actually beat Impact in the latest UK ratings (Raw's 201,000 to Impact's 199,000), so there isn't a clear leader in terms of 'most watched', but others are right: TNA just aren't that good at capitalising on and increasing awareness and marketing. When the public thinks 'the wrestling', they still think WWE. You can get WWE toys in Tesco, Asda and Argos, you can't get TNA toys anywhere but specialist shops.

With regards to the strength of TNA's brand image, I found this interesting....

TNA_Tourfinal_support.jpg

That's how they advertised their latest UK shows. Fucking massive picture of Hogan. Hulk Hogan in fucking massive letters, in that familiar Hulkamania font. Hulkamania colour scheme. Tiny TNA logo at the top. That's because TNA as a brand has no impact (no pun intended) whatsoever in the UK. If the average non-wrestling viewer saw that poster they would still be non the wiser to what TNA is, it just tells you Hulk Hogan's in town.

You can find all the best TNA merchandise in Home Bargains....well if you consider Christian Cage and Kevin Nash 'punch em' dolls to be a top buy.

It's hard to measure if TNA is on it's way to becoming the most popular promotion in the UK. For two years in a row Hulk Hogan has been on popular daytime TV to promote the tour, that's not something you see John Cena or Sheamus doing over here...then again, do they really need to?

Impact frequently gets a higher viewership than Raw and is producing original content for the UK, I think it's a fair throw away line for Dixie to say to fans in attendance. However, I think the true measure of this will be if TNA begin shifting more tickets to live events on the UK tour next year, the attendance hasn't really gotten much bigger over the past few years that I have been so is TNA simply more in the consciousness of wrestling fans these days and not necessarily in demand?

This years attendance seems to have destroyed last years. This years looks to be a big success.

Mind you WWE doesn't need to advertise their World champion even though they have known for months there wasn't a chance he was coming over.

I haven't seen the attendance figures but it didn't seem like their was an increase in Manchester's attendance from where I was sat, suppose I can't judge the other venues though and it was also my first time at a wembley show so can't judge. It'd be nice to see some figures reported as clarification.

Does anyone know anything about Pro Wrestling 101 getting up and running again? Steven Gauntley's promotion? Someone mentioned he was gonna be doing shows again and I went and checked out their Facebook and there is some activity going on.

EDIT: Turns out it's something like Pro Wrestling Republic.

Yeah, it's too late now. For a while it seemed like the idea was that TNA was the parent company, Impact Wrestling was the tv brand, but even that dubious distinction is gone. It's TNA, and the show is Impact. Impact Wrestling doesn't mean anything really.

Look at the logo on the website - it's a blue TNA logo.
