After seeing him live recently I've been burning through Jokes with Mark Simmons, where he invites comics on to completely break failed jokes apart and figure out why they don't work. So much deliberation on tone, choice of vocab, positioning, pacing... fascinating if you like that sort of thing. Co-host Danny Ward is definitely a wrestling fan as he occasionally drops a bang on "will you stop!" Gorilla impersonation. That and, oh, he talks about watching wrestling too. Quote

Paid Members JLM Posted May 2 Paid Members Posted May 2 Went to the recording of the first two episodes of Stewart Lee’s new podcast “Joking Apart” at the Machynlleth comedy festival today. He has Birmingham punk veteran Rob Lloyd as the co host and they have an excellent rapport. The format is that Rob tells a classic pub joke and then Stew takes a wildly unnecessary deep dive into the joke. Who are the characters, what are their stories and motivations, what happens to them afterwards. Rob hates this and calls him on his self indulgent bullshit. Also some wider discussion about comedy/joke theft/different comedic sensibilities in different regions. As a big Stew fan and a big comedy nerd I loved it very much. Had just the right amount of “this is a bit shit” factor and was also hilarious despite my description probably not making it sound very funny. He seemed happy with how this recording went so I’m hopeful it’ll be a full series of them. Quote
