I know he was maybe a bit past his best, injury prone and a lot of your fans just think he was a mercenary. But if I was a Boro fan, Alen Boksic would have to be in there somewhere. What a player he was, absolute class.

I'd completely forgotten you had Christian Ziege! Don't remember Stephen Pears but that's a great team.

Ziege was immense for us for the year that we had him until Liverpool stole him off us. He scored a couple of belting goals and he was defensively sound. Stephen Pears was a solid goalkeeper for Boro in the late 80's and early 90's. He was on the fringes of being part of the England setup, however the only time he was called up he had to pull-out due to breaking his cheek bone when Dion Dublin nutted him in 1992.

There are quite a few players which didn't make my squad. Alen Boksic, Bernie Slaven, John Hendrie and Marco Branca were all brilliant strikers during their time at Boro, but Ravanelli was a goal machine, Viduka was a beast and Uwe Fuchs is probably the biggest cult hero at Boro for single handledly dragging us up into the Premier League in 1995. Why we did not sign him permanently I do not know, although chinning John Hendrie on the pitch at the last ever game at Ayresome Park didn't help his cause.

Other big names I have omitted are Nigel Pearson, Gary Pallister, Tuncay, Paul Ince, Nicky Barmby and Paul Merson but they didn't quite make the grade.

What about Mendieta for Middlesborough? ...I always liked him.

Mendi was great on the ball, but unfortunately he had the pace of a seven year old girl with Rickets (surprise surprise he didn't make my squad!) Mendieta was instrumental when we beat Man Utd 4-1 and played a large part when we won the Carling Cup, but you know somethings up when you are actively competing for your starting place with Dave Doriva.

Mendi is still living on Teesside however, he has a part-time job at Yarm Cricket Club where he is the groundsman. Seriously, I am not joking.

In my 20+ years following Blackburn Rovers, i think my best 11 would be this..

GK - Brad Friedel

RB - Henning Berg

CB - Colin Hendry

CB - Chris Samba

LB - Graham Le Saux

RW - Stuart Ripley

CM - Tugay

CM - Tim Sherwood

LW - Damien Duff

ST - Alan Shearer

ST - Chris Sutton

Subs - Tim Flowers, Kevin Moran, Mark Atkins, Jason Wilcox, David Bentley, Kevin Gallacher, Matt Jansen

Honorable mentions to Lucas Neill, Gary Flitcroft, Scott Sellars, Craig Bellamy & David Speedie too, they would all have at least a squad place.

He's a devout Christian. Apparently he used to sleep in the overhead baggage compartments when the team watched pornos on the team bus.

He is a Pastor/Minister now iirc or is least studying to be one in Canada, left to do that some time in 2008 iirc

Jody Morris used to run a lot. Didn't make him decent though. I was half expected Shev to turn up on your bench when I saw him. No room for Sparky anywhere? Gullit? John Spencer? Gavin The Bible Peacock?

What, no Robert Fleck? Winstone Bogarde?

Forget these, what about Claude Makelele? One of the most important players of Chelsea and Real's successful sides of the 2000s. You need an engine to go with the layers of gold paint, as Zizou would say.

No John Byrne or Marco Gabbiadini?

Na, Byrne was of course great for that cup run, but unspectacular for the rest of his time here. Marco was our centre forward when I first started going to matches and I think I cried when we sold him to Palace, but I can't really make a case for him ahead of legitimate top flight players like Quinn and Phillips (or Cisse and Bent, to a lesser extent).
