Kata Ha Jime Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 http://news.ninemsn.com.au/health/8208751/...-for-antibiotic - Original story. A US teen could lose her baby after a pharmacist mistakenly gave her a powerful abortion drug instead of the antibiotic her doctor prescribed. Mareena Silva, 19, who is six weeks pregnant, was written a prescription to deal with a bacterial infection, US network ABC reported.  Instead the Colorado woman was given methotrexate, a drug used for early-stage pregnancy termination as well as chemotherapy.  Ms Silva took a pill of the abortion drug before discovering the medicine container had a different but similar name on the label.  "I am so worried about myself and the baby right now," she said.  "It was so much more of a big deal because I am only six weeks along and it's a very delicate time in pregnancy."  Pharmacology professor Paul Doering said the pharmacy had no excuse for such a mistake.  "It couldn't be a worse mix up than that," Dr Doering said.  "I can't think of anything worse."  Doctors are keeping a close eye on Ms Silva, who is now at the risk of miscarriage or carry a baby with severe birth defects.  Methotrexate targets rapidly reproducing cells, making it an effective treatment for many cancers and a very dangerous one in pregnancy.  That is a little bit funny, it's not just me is it?
Merzbow Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Well the mum looks like a bit of a crackhead from the picture i saw, i wonder how much money she'll get for suing them if anything does happen.

One hundred and infinity dollars. Â In regards to the "similar" names, surely something as serious as an abortion/chemo drug should be called something rather unique and stand out-ish to avoid any remote chance of confusion. Surely the pharmacist's alarm bells would've rung instantly if the container said Chemobortion. Â A terrible thing to happen, regardless of whether they're deemed old enough to have a kid.
Checkmate Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 good we got enough teen mums in this world as it is

The King Of Swing Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I love threads like these simply because they remind me who the forum cunts/trolls are. Â Hope the baby survives and the "pharmacist" never works in the medical profession again.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted February 10, 2011 Paid Members Posted February 10, 2011 Thats awful. I cant see how a girl accidentaly losing a child because of some thick cunt giving out the wrong pills could be funny at all.

Smeg_&_The_Heads Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I don't see how it's even remotely funny and TBH anybody who thinks it is must have some kind of really fucked up mind. Â I honestly wouldn't find it even the least bit funny if it happened to the person I hate most in the world it happened recently to my former neighbours and I hated both both them (To be fair everybody did) but when I found that out I was truly gutted for them.
Paid Members Chris B Posted February 10, 2011 Paid Members Posted February 10, 2011 Well, this story was just a cunt-magnet, wasn't it?
Kata Ha Jime Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 Not funny as in hillarious, once again my humour lands me in it. Â Funny in the fact of how in the hell do you those up? Something must be wrong with your qualifications or eye sight to do so. Â Thanks for the label of "The guy who said it's funny." Â I can see that going in my sig somewhere without my concent.
Moderators PowerButchi Posted February 11, 2011 Moderators Posted February 11, 2011 I don't know why I'm being bunched with the guy who said it was funny. I just said 19 year olds shouldn't be having kids, I didn't say I found it funny or that she deserves it or any mad bollocks. Â Never been confused with a bright spark, eh mate? Â EDIT: I've came back a few minutes later to ask. Are you trolling, or are you that fucking stupid? Unfortunately, I doubt you need to answer.
