Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 24, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 24, 2012 The Oscars are meaningless, though, and they have been for years. Cannes is a far better barometer of the better films around in a year. Â The article's not wrong for the most part - many of the films that have won that Oscar are clearly not the best films made in those particular years and some of the choices are just absurd. Don't get me fucking started on Forrest Gump as well.

Loki
Only went as far back at 1980, but I'd seen all but one so I feel fairly secure.
patiirc
Went through the entire list, seen about 50 of them, which is pretty good. Some really odd choices for Oscar winners, and the sneery tone of some of the write ups was a bit odd. I appreciate that some of the Oscar winners arent the best film, and are just a prize winner, however when the write ups say don't watch this version of the film and watch xyz version, including David Tennant's version of Hamlet, for er, Hamlet then its all a bit too much. Â Not been excited for the Oscars for sometime. Have stayed up and watched it in the past, as can be a good show. However, it's just another awards show these day, or at least seems that way. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in Blade Runner, and Weyland-Yutani in Alien. They sent the Nostromo spaceship," said Scott.  "The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That's the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. You wonder why he is bothering to link the two films in even a small way, then, if it has no relevance to anything going on Prometheus. Either he's fibbing or he's omitting something or a franchise is planned and the link will be put together in later films.  [close spoiler] ");document.close(); On a different note and film and moving away from blockbusters, this is a trailer for a film called Babycall:-   As you can see, it's got lovely Noomi Rapace in it. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 27, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 27, 2012 Why the fuck has Your Highness only got one nomination? And why the fuck did I forget it from my worst films list? A truly, truly terrible film, not even redeemed by Portman's arse.
Mr. Seven
Patrick Dempsey is actually the only decent thing in Transformers. Well, him and the bit where Optimus Prime gets caught up in crane wires and the other bit where he fucking executes the villain, which is a hilariously grim scene for a kids movie. Â Saw some people online OUTRAGED that Ryan Dunn from Jackass was omitted from the In Memoriam thing at the Oscars. Why? Guy wasn't an actor and he went out like a fucking prick. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted February 27, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted February 27, 2012 Patrick Dempsey's pretty great in almost everything. Â On this Ryan Dunn thing, I don't get it at all. Like you say, he wasn't an actor. He was in a couple of notable films but that's not the same thing at all, surely?
Mr. Seven
I'm sure people will point to other dead members of the industry who have featured who have probably technically done less onscreen than Dunn, and that's a fair enough argument, but the guy wasn't talented, wasn't much of anything really and the manner of his death was pretty disgusting. patiirc
They cant do everyone in them In Memoriam things, or it would last longer than the show itself. Â I guess they pick a wide selection, and it goes from there
Rey_Piste
Dunn's a glorified stuntman not an actor. He was killed breaking the speed limit whilst drunk, he doesn't deserve being glorified
