That's correct. Neptune's mum is called Castille Collonges and his dad Dom Alco. Generally speaking, its the breeder of the horse that names it, so by the time its current owner buys it and sends it to a trainer, its already been named. The breeder of a horse, more often than not, names it using elements of its mum and dad. For example, Village Star and Kauto Relka gave birth to a young chap called Kauto Star.

 

There's always exceptions to the rule though, Irish powerhouse owners Coolmore call many of their horses after famous people in history - they've had George Washington, Gallileo, Rip Van Winkle, Washington Irving, Yeats and Dylan Thomas.

 

You also have random comedians who name poor horses in the mould of Noble Locks, Wunderbra and Myplacelater.

I brought this up in the Misc footy thread, but Chelsea are 4-1 on a win for tonights game. Anyone else's gut telling them Chelsea could sneak a win tonight at the bridge?

There's loads of free bet offers kicking around. If you google 'free bet offers' or 'introductory offers' then there'll be loads of hits. I think Paddy Power are doing something where they treble the odds for the first bet you place, which is pretty good.

 

I'd be careful with refunds like the Betfair one - they generally just refund you the cash as a free bet, then you have to place the bet again and win to get real money. Skybet are pretty good for an opening offer; they give you a
