Generally speaking, its the breeder of the horse that names it, so by the time its current owner buys it and sends it to a trainer, its already been named. The breeder of a horse, more often than not, names it using elements of its mum and dad. For example, Village Star and Kauto Relka gave birth to a young chap called Kauto Star. There's always exceptions to the rule though, Irish powerhouse owners Coolmore call many of their horses after famous people in history - they've had George Washington, Gallileo, Rip Van Winkle, Washington Irving, Yeats and Dylan Thomas. If you google 'free bet offers' or 'introductory offers' then there'll be loads of hits. I think Paddy Power are doing something where they treble the odds for the first bet you place, which is pretty good. I'd be careful with refunds like the Betfair one - they generally just refund you the cash as a free bet, then you have to place the bet again and win to get real money.
