After not watching any films for months this week I have been on a movie watching rampage and haven't seen a bad one yet. Sice I watched Rec and The Orphanage last Sunday I have seen:There Will Be BloodThis is movie is really fucking good. Not much of a plot to speak off, just watching the main characters wickedness, greed and hatred develop over 2 hours 40 minutes. Daniel Day Lewis is excellent and really deserved the Oscar. The final scene is spectacular and features some of the best writing and acting I have seen in years.StardustThis is movie is just a shit load of fun. I can't say a bad word about it. To sum it up perfectly, it's just fun. Watching it was a joy and I had a big grin on my face the whole time. The FountainThis is actually the second time I have seen it. First time I enjoyed it but was expecting the plot to round up the story but second time around as I knew what to expect I enjoyed it a million times more. Visually it's incredible and Hugh Jackman is one of the most underrated actors around. The music is also sublime.Eastern PromisesThis is great. Much better than the shitty overrated A History Of Violence. Viggo completely dissappears in his role. Also features one of the best fight scenes in movie history. One complaint though is when one character goes to a Arsenal/Chelsea match and the producers couldn't be fucked to pay to use the actual team logos so all the fans are just wearing blank red and blue t-shirts.The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert FordIt took me awhile to get into this but by the end I loved it. The actual assassination itself is brilliantly done and the aftermath is really great stuff. Pitt and Affleck are both spectacular in this. Affleck is great as this pathetic, weakling of a man that you almost feel sorry for him and Pitt is always great at playing characters with insane tendencies and he is excellent in this. Highly recommended. Oh and I loved the score too. Someone hook me up with a download of the films main themes please. :)

Yeah the Assassination of Jesse James is a great movie and one that's highly unrecognised by the masses. Not being that familiar with Casey Afflecks work I have to say his role as Robert Ford is a role that can really make a guys career. I think he played the character brilliantly and Brad Pitt as always was incredible.Oh and last film I watched was Casino Royale again, brilliant movie and can't wait for 007: QOS

I'm two thirds of the way through Casshern and tying to decide if I can be arsed with the rest of it. It looks very pretty in places and I'm sure there's a cracking story fighting to get out, but I have very little clue what the hell's going on.

In my "to watch" pile: Hellboy, Maltese Falcon, Broken Flowers, Cloverfield, Dog Soldiers, The Host, Big Fish, Shoot 'Em Up, Crank, The Myth and all three Bournes. And that's just off the top of my head. Oh, for the time...

Planet Terror

I've been wanting to see this even since the Grindhouse project was first announced but after the project was dissected to please the bumbling masses I decided to wait until the DVD release in order to see the films in their full glory. I'm would liked to have seen the two movies released together as part of an interesting Grindhouse box set but seeing as this doesn't appear to be happening any time soon I decided to buy each movie individually, unfortunately Death Proof didn't arrive in time for the weekend so here's my Planet Terror review.

Shoddy. Ill-advised. Uninteresting. Tedious. These are words that I would not associate with Planet Terror. As a closet fan of budget horror movies this is a fantastic tribute to those movies that just never made it, it's gory as hell, the dialog is smart and the plot is ridiculous, but most importantly this film is entertaining. You're probably all aware of the plot by now but for those of you who don't I'll quickly fill you in; a military department are doing experiments, the test subjects escape and infect all but a few people in a small southern American town, the survivors battle hordes of zombies-esque creatures to survive and seek to ultimately escape the carnage, hijinx ensue. Unlike most survival horrors this film has plenty of funny moments entwined with the action, while comparisons with Shawn Of The Dead are justified the focus of Planet Terror always remains on the action, even when Freddy Rodr

Super High Me

Ooh err a witty title. Think Super Size me (duh!) but with lots and lots of the glorious green in place of McDonalds food. 30 days cold turkey before hand and then 30 days solidly at the puff. Various doctor visits, psychologists analysis and various tests both physical and academic taken through different stages of the 'experiment'. Maybe not very objective to say i was on a similar wavelength when watching it but it was really interesting and worth a watch.

I saw The Mist yesterday. It was okay, there was a better movie in there somewhere. The acting was pretty poor allround and the cg for the monsters was pretty piss-poor for todays standards in my book. Isn't it weird how the special effects in Starship Troopers and Jurrassic Park are better than 99% of movies today despite both movies being about a decade old? Anyways, the ending of this movie was supposed to be extremely emotional and dramatic but I found it completely laughable.

I got that from Casshern. All style no substance imho.

Jackass 2.5They make this, and throughout make it clear this is the 'really crap stuff' that didn't make it into the main movie.some 'fun' commentary but really there was no reason to make this, an extended version of the original with some extra scenes (the mini motorbikes was fun) and the commentary would've been much better. It's got to a point where these guys really seem to have 'lost it' and are trying too hard to recapture without success.Oh well.Awful, avoid unless you really need to see Steve-O blowing air through a straw into Preston's arse who then farts it back into his face.

I watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall last night. I love the Judd Apatow comedies and I'm a huge fan of Russell Brand, so I've been looking forward to this one for ages. Didn't quite live up to the high expectations I'd set, but still a cracking comedy and I think I'll see it again tonight (if I see a free preview screening and really like the film, I tend to pay to see it again when it's released). I'd place it like this: Superbad > 40 Year Old Virgin > Forgetting Sarah Marshall > Knocked Up.

This looks like it could be pretty funny, but I really hate the way its being advertised over here (presumably the Brand-centric advertising is for this country only).I like Brand, but I hate it when they overly-rely on selling a film to be by the stars in it... It just makes me expect the film to be lazy, and reliant on the actor(s) being the draw. That's certainly the impression I've got from this new "Ashton vs. Cameron" whatever the fuck it's called film that I've seen advertised recently...

I've got this feeling that the distributors have overestimated how famous/popular Russell Brand is. Knocked Up took months to come out here after America (ie our cinemas got the prints that had already been played for ages in the US), yet this is out only five days later. So not only have they actually made a shitload of prints for the UK release, they've also released it on a Wednesday, which is normally only done for huge blockbusters like Matrix and Harry Potter type stuff. He is the fourth main character in the film, and he definitely shines more than Sarah Marshall herself. He's been singled out by a lot of reviews and stuff. I haven't seen the advertising here but from what I've heard them say, it seems like they think he is The Most Famous Man in England and that everyone will rush out to see him in a film.

That's certainly the impression I've got from this new "Ashton vs. Cameron" whatever the fuck it's called film that I've seen advertised recently...

Based on the names and posters, I'd never been interested in it. But saw a trailer for it last night and it didn't look shit. I don't fancy me chances of stomaching the pair of them for a couple of hours, mind.
