WTF was the end about?? OH NO LITTTLE GIRL IN THE ROAD, LETS NOT RUN HER OVER AND KILL HER, EVEN THO WE JUST SHOT ON BLOKE IN THE HEAD IN OUR AMBULANCE AND WEVE JUST BOMBED ABOUT 300 PEOPLE.Oh and remote access on a fan, lol. Brilliantbut yeah, enjoyable.

Frank how was it not bad? It was an awful clusterfuck of a movie! And it wasn't just me!! As said in my review after rewinding so many times people were getting up and walking out of the cinema. It wasn't consistent at all. I realise we all have different opinions but I'm honestly interested in what you thought was good about it?Sure the opening 20 mins was great, but after that I hated it.Oh and Remote access/aiming on a sniper rifle was less believable than the fan I mean COME ON!!!! I watched John Rambo yesterday and i found it to be rather enjoyable but it seemed to be over rather quickly. Was it just me who thought this or was it actully quite a long movie?

El Orfanato aka The Orphanage - ain't gonna say much except this was f'n fantastic, pretty much ties with The Descent as the best horror movie ive ever seen at the cinema...it aint at every cinema but seriously look it up and go see

I tried watching this a couple of weeks ago based on your recommendation. I have to confess to switching it off about an hour and 15 mintues in. I don't know what it was (it wasn't the performances) but it just wasn't gripping me. I found it to be a bit slow moving and found myself getting bored, which is unusual for me. The only other film I've switched off is Wolf Creek. I even stomached the whole of 1408. But something about this film really didn't make me want carry on watching it.However, I will probably give it another go. I may have been in a funny mood.I'm off to see The Bank Job tonight. I'm currently trying to watch Southland Tales for the second time after giving up after 30 minutes last night. I'm 2 hours in and there's apparently 18 minutes and 43 seconds left and it's pretty much been nonsensical torture. Dreadful dialogue, a complete lack of plot and narrative and general confusion reign supreme in this utter fucking mess from the mind of Richard Kelly. I guess Donnie Darko was a fluke, but even that fell to pieces when Kelly came along and "explained" it. Seriously I've been watching this for two hours and I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. It's trying to be a hundred different things and none of it is working. It wants to be David Lynch but even in the most fucked up Lynch film, there's some semblence of a plot or structure. Nothing in this film feels connected, it's all just a bunch of random scenes that add up to NOTHING.

 

As for the acting? Sarah Michelle Gellar has never been worse, Seann William Scott barely registers, The Rock does his best but the pressure on him is ridiculous and I doubt any actor could have done any better. Justin Timberlake is somewhat interesting, but his character is skin deep. I'm sure Southland Tales makes sense in Richard Kelly's head, and maybe if you read the graphic novels, watched the film, read the blogs, downloaded the podcasts, subscribed to the director's set diary, and gleaned as much information as pertains to the whole experience as possible, then maybe, just maybe you could take something from it. However, I have no desire to do anything other than watch the film, and the film is a fucking mess.

 

I also watched Hitman, which wasn't very good but was nowhere near as terrible as the reviews made out. I'm gay for Timothy Olyphant, and he tries his best, but he's just not right for the role.

 

Oh and I was forced to watch Black Sheep the other night, and I couldn't see it through to the end it was so amateur and awful.

 

So yeah, a bad couple of days for movies. At least I bought Jesse James.

 

Oh, Southland Tales just ended all of a sudden, and no, there was no resolution. Blur's "Tender" is on the end credits. Great song. Fucking disgraceful film though. Kelly should be ashamed.

I watched The Madness Of King George last night, a cracking FilmFour flick from 1994, with Nigel Hawthorne, Ian Holm, Helen Mirren and er Rupert Everett. The monarch (Hawthorne) develops a madness, and the Prince Of Wales (Everett) uses this to try and pry his way into power. Beautiful performances from the cast (including *gasp* Everett) and a wonderfully adapted Alan Bennett screenplay, mean this film is a great watch. Its cynical interpretation of the throne is funny, without losing the depth of the historical context (or expecting the viewer to be in the mood for a history lesson).

So I watched The Bank Job last night. Not an overly amazing film but a very good story. Jason Statham was very good, the way they portrayed the 70's was very good, but the other performances made it feel like an epsiode of Life on Mars. Don't get me wrong, it was good but a better selection of casting would have made it better. The so called model, Martine (Saffron Burrows), has a bum chin, frog eyes and looked anorexic around the cheek bones. In short, she's not too pretty. Not what you want for a female lead role who's character was supposed to be a former model. Overall I did enjoy it and it will end up on my DVD rack, I just wish some of the performances were a bit better, it really could have made it as one of the better recent British films that didn't involve Guy Ritchie.Also, it was nice to see Craig Fairbrass. He would still make a better Lenny McLean than Vinnie Jones in my opinion if The Guv'nor ever takes off.

Thought it was pretty bad. Not something Ill ever watch again. Nothing original about it whatsoever. It had loads of the classic cliches, such as "Holding someone hostage so youll do their dirty work", "Someone in authority turning out to be a bad guy", "Someone in authority being played by a hot woman", etc etc. Actually, come to think of it, Im actually trying to think what was the point of that guy who summgled the bomb in. I know, he was there to bring the bomb in, but what other purpose did he have in the entire movie? Thinking back, he had about two lines of back story as to why he was there. Silly stuff.Of course, as others have said in this thread, the end part was absolutley ridicolous. How the FUCK could they think this was a good way to down the terrorists? Its one of the least satisfying ends Ive seen in fucking ages. Apart from it not making any sense at all (cold hearted murdering terrorists trying to avoid a little girl), surely they could have found a miles more exciting way for the terrorists to get their comeupance?And there was that utterly stupid deal with the man controlling fans and sniper riffles with a palm top. Having him click "Window Fan....Activate" on his PDA looked abysmal. Not as bad as when the man used the PDA to shoot someone. If youve not seen it, it was like a Nintendo DS game, where he was using a pen to guide the scope onto the president, and then he clicked the screen to shoot. Terrible stuff.Then there was the shitty stuff with the amatuer camerman and the little gitl. All pretty much shit, and only done for the end.Ive talked about it for far too long now. It had the potential to be a good film, I think. There were some pretty decent action scenes in it (the car chase, and the guy using a silencer to talk out everyone protecting the president), and if they got rid of the shiity superfluous stuff (girl, cameraman, news director stuff), tweeked the format a little, and had a more satisfying end, it could have been a nice little action film.
