It’s inarguably AEW’s version of, “Fastlane,” with a real sense of, “can we just get this over with so we can start promoting the proper show?” But given the form they’re on, and the matches booked, this will easily be the best, “Fastlane,” of all time! Locking in my All In ticket this week has helped. I’ll probably watch this live now my excitement levels are rising. It’s an earlier start time, isn’t it? Watch Tony just add an extra hour to accommodate the new start time, making it even longer. Coming the week before Summerslam is a good laugh, because you assume they’ll want to steal all the headlines and overshadow next weekend. For instance, I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that the 6-Way Ladder Match on this show might be slightly better* than next week’s ladder match for the Interim Women’s Title. *Better technically, but not necessarily more entertaining. Even with all the talent involved in tonight’s match, none of them are as entertaining as Charlotte in her current dickhead form, shooting, talking over and undermining everyone. She’s even sealed the HBK-in-the-mid-90s act by incorporating the, “suck it!” taunt! Wildly entertaining menace! Hoping and praying they shoot whatever the big angle is in the Ospreay/Mox vs. Young Bucks match. We’re running out of time here, lads. Less than a month to go before Ospreay should be going into All In as the Top Babyface World Champion Elect and he’s currently hitting heel sneak attack Hidden Blades. What the fuck are we doing?! At this rate, they’re not going to have time to get Will and the Lightning Seeds to re-record, “Three Lions.” Kyle Fletcher vs. Bandido is the biggest Meltzer-bait match in quite some time. Six stars, banked. Even as the founder and leader of the Willow Nightingale Fan Club, I don’t want to see her win clean in the Women’s Title match. Thekla has been far too good, and far too gobby, to be robbed of her big moment in Wembley. Hopefully some overbooked bullshit to confirm the Triple Threat at All In. Chris Jericho stinks, The Painmaker gimmick is an abject embarrassment that was never a thing, and I’ll never forgive TKO for whatever piss-takingly low salary they must have offered Jericho to force us all to continue suffering him in AEW. However, the No Holds Barred stipulation does increase my enthusiasm. Jericho’s always good at backstage brawls, as was evident in that recent one he and Ciampa had on Dynamite. Kept short and silly, they might pull off a miracle. Ciampa wearing a traffic cone on his head, please. Omega vs. Knight will be a good match. Literally nothing else to say about your pay per view main event. Rough. Wrestling Observer reported recently that there are as many as seven ex-WWE wrestlers waiting to debut in AEW, so you wonder if they’ll debut some here, to manufacture some much needed buzz. What was the pay per view recently where it felt like every match features some type of return, debut or mad appearance? Revolution? Maybe they’ll do something similar here. I’d have to imagine the Motor City Machine Guns will show up, although their stock has dropped significantly because of their shitty run in WWE. I’m not saying they can’t recover, but I’m just not sure it’s worth investing any time in them as opposed to a younger, fresh team. Assuming the MCMG have even signed, of course. There had been rumblings of Steve Mallon signing, and although I like him, he strikes me as another Josh Alexander type, who is good, but not quite good enough to get an opportunity on that packed roster. I hope they bring in Kay Lee Ray, who didn’t really get the opportunity to shine in the way she can on the main roster. Whether it’s as a singles star or in a tag team, she’d bring value. Quote

RedTwoster Posted July 27 Posted July 27 If Tony Khan doesn't see AEW's top active female babyface winning her first World Title (and becoming the first female triple crown champion) against a red hot Thekla as big enough to main event a PPV on this B-level card, when will two women ever close an AEW PPV? It's so disappointing, and the only conclusion you can draw is that Khan views a mid-level men's match as more significant than a high level women's match, and his female roster - even its biggest stars - as being less important than the men. I'm sure he'd point to it being a Canadian show, and that's why Omega closed it and to that I'd say, so what? The people in the arena are the minority watching the show, and it's not like they're going to flood out en masse after seeing Kenny. It's just shameful, and for whatever reason AEW seems to get away with treating its female roster as being lesser time and time again. They should get called out on this more. Quote

There was a bit where the contract was literally bouncing off the back of Jack Perry's head and instead of just reaching round slightly and immediately grabbing it he just had to a do a Canadian Destroyer off the ladder onto another ladder. I'll probably check out Willow/Thekla and call it a day. Quote

I've just had a similar experience. Put it on in the background while I work. Already guy's just standing around waiting on Speedball doing a moonsault off the ladder. The ladder was at the top of the aisle at the time. Shite. Mortos deserves better! Quote

Though in the situation, I get why you did it Mick, I genuinely do. Is Jericho's current gimmick that he's 'Mr. AEW'? As in inconsistent and sometimes downright ropey on TV, then smashes it on PPV. I really enjoyed that match with Ciampa, bit of a bullshit, bit of blood, Canada hockey team heat. All the smoke and mirrors. Best match of the Painmakers career that. Ladder Match was daft for even Ladder Match logic. In a way I feel Ladder matches have regressed back to the best and most interesting ones are now when it's just a one on one between singles or tag teams. Edited July 27 by Chili Quote

AEW Fastlane did not feel fast. First time with MyAEW that I checked if you could put the show on 1.5x speed, like you can WWE on Netflix. Turns out you can! Thank fuck! I doubt I would have survived otherwise! I enjoyed the opener as a daft, non-sensical spot fest, but even viewed as such, I’ll mostly remember this match for some of the worst agenting of recent times. All six lads brawl up the ramp, Mike Bailey does a huge moonsault off the top of the ladder onto everyone, and then Jack Perry immediately follows up by doing the exact same spot, only from three rungs lower on the ladder. Who on Earth okayed that? Or did Jack unprofessionally go into business for himself? Maybe CM Punk is right about this kid, after all. I think you’d struggle to find a worse span of three matches on a AEW pay per view than The Chain Tag Match, followed by Shida vs. Maya World, followed by the Tag Title match. Dreadful stuff. A seemingly endless run of dull, plodding, boring matches, performed to silence. The Chain match was a clunky mess, massively hindered by the stipulation. It feels shit saying it considering the rough time she’s had in her personal life but Maya World is actually a bit rubbish and noticeably leagues below the majority of the female talent on the roster. And despite the injection of new life teaming with Christian originally gave his run, I think I’ve had my fill of Cope at this point. Shit old man, with shit old hair. Sooner he calls it a career the better. Everyone involved in that dreadful hour or so of television should be utterly ashamed of themselves that Chris Jericho in 2026 was required to save the show at that point and win the crowd back. Silly, fun No Holds Barred match, full of all the usual Jericho Shortcuts. Jericho winning via drilling Ciampa’s head should’ve been the dumbest spot of the year but the crowd seemed to actually go for it, so what do I know. Chris Jericho gets away with it yet again! Unbelievable. He should trademark, “The Cockroach.” It was very WWE of them to get the timing so wrong on Willow winning the World Title. Everything I ever wanted for the love of my wrestling life, but under such circumstances that it more annoyed me than anything else. Justice for Thekla! She deserves to be in that match at Wembley! Dumb bitches! It’s always been funny how within the fictional universe that Tony Khan is the fastest booker in the west, oftentimes making matches before the segment has even ended, but this took the cake! He already had the graphic, with Willow posing with the belt, before she’d even won it! Either he’s really good at photoshop or pro-wrestling might be a bit fake. Mick Foley was once a genius. He’s the most underrated wrestler in WWE history and some of their biggest stars of all time owe their career to Mick. I’ve been advocating for him coming to AEW forever. But then I see him on this show, performing his kinks, and I’m left wondering if maybe being completely disrespected and humiliated on a WWE Legends contract was the right fit for the dirty bastard after all. The Dichotomy of Moxley continues. When he’s good he’s one of the best ever. When he’s bad he might be the most frustrating talent alive. All that bollocks with Ospreay for that? Oh, fuck off. Judging it as a whole, I think this was Jon’s attempt at doing the Sami-Zayn-in-The-Bloodline thing, and this was supposed to be his Royal Rumble 2023 moment that turns the babyface into the hottest act in the business, but none of it worked at all. I wasn’t thrilled by Will finally standing up for himself. Will isn’t anymore over because of this. He just feels like an idiot for getting involved with them for so long. Sami hitting Roman with the chair is one of the best angles of all time. Here, I was just happy it was over. There was a noticeable sense of relief as soon as the Death Riders went back to their home planet and allowed Will and Kenny to start being dickheads to each other. What a colossal waste of time. Proper Debra-is-The-Rock’s-manager-leading-into-Wrestlemania-17 stuff. The Dudline Saga. Jon Moxley saved my life during the Pandemic. Solidified him as one of my all time favourites. But now? She’s incredibly green, and having her go over Shida who has been nothing short of fantastic since returning was a strange choice given that it felt like her run as champ was only just getting underway. His ascent to the title should've been one of the easiest, clearest paths they've had. It's not like he's a guy who struggles to get the crowd behind him so they needed to manufacture some sort of support or anything. If anything they've absolutely diluted him by all this shit.
