Paid Members BomberPat Posted July 29 Paid Members Posted July 29 I don't see a lot of the tribalism stuff because I'm not on Twitter, most wrestling content I see on Facebook is from wrestling history groups, and on Bluesky it's mostly mates who interact with wrestling stuff, so it's a lot more civil. It's always weird when I post something on there that attracts attention from wrestling fans who decide I'm making a completely different point to what I'm actually saying, or assume that because I'm critical of something in AEW I must love WWE, a company I don't even watch. That kind of thing is thankfully rare. I think the main thing with the double standard around what WWE and AEW are held to is that I've always felt that if WWE do something shit, you know it's been focused grouped and written and rewritten and micromanaged and overproduced to within an inch of its life, so everything shit about it is entirely by design and how they wanted it to happen. Whereas when something shit happens in AEW, it's usually because it's a bit more chaotic and you know they can do better. I haven't seen the Joe Hendry/Danhausen segment from RAW, but I gather it was awful Vince McMahon comedy stuff, and that's worse to me than the Mick Foley segment from Redemption, because the Foley stuff was a stupid time-filler segment that probably came together on the day with less than five minutes thought behind it, while the Danhausen/Hendry bit had a team of writers putting it together and was an actual advertised part of the show. It's also just a problem of setting the bar high. Every AEW PPV for a long time was absolutely brilliant, and even a weaker episode of Dynamite usually has a really high quality of actual wrestling on it, and when they do a bad episode or a bad PPV you cut them a little slack because you know they can do so much better. Whereas WWE you tend to know is going to be crap, so you take your joy where you can. Quote
