It’s the most uninteresting Continental Classic line-up so far, for me. Kyle Fletcher being included adds a level of intrigue, but I’d have liked to see a few different names in there - @LaGoosh’s suggestion of Powerhouse Hobbs is a good one, or Josh Alexander who I rate higher than most do on here. I’d like to see The Bucks enter on opposing brackets one year too, and it would have been interesting to see someone like Big Bill essentially get a sink-or-swim moment in a tournament like this.

Still, I’m sure it’ll be decent.

I’m not so sure, given that Dorada is also in those brackets. I’d love to see him (Dorada, not Strong) have a breakout run in this tournament, but they’ve never shown any real likelihood of using him like that. If I were them, I’d be tempted to further the ‘Moxley duff-run’ plot by opening with Mox/Dorada, and having Dorada win clean in what would be the biggest upset they can pull in that bracket. But I think it’s more likely that Strong will get the honour of defeating Mox, probably Claudio too.

Moxley being in the tournament makes me think the Death Riders turning on him isn't going to happen yet, where I think it should just happen this Wednesday, feels like it's overdue now.

A mixed bag of a Dynamite for me. Things started strong, with Okada/Fletcher and the tag match being a lot of fun, but things dipped significantly when Samoa Joe held his title celebration.

He’s playing the most generic heel character you could imagine, and Hook was no better. Joe is ice cold right now, although he has it in him to be better than this. I hope they get the title off him quickly.

Also, a chant of ‘women’s wrestling’ during the tag match? That felt a bit patronising.

Toni Storm sharing a ring with Moxley was a fun sight, and made me wish we had more intergender interactions in AEW. Instead of a National Champion (where was he, anyway?) and trios belts, I’d much prefer to see an Intergender tag title. The prospect of yet another Death Match doesn’t appeal to me, and I kind of wish Storm had been clever about the stipulation and picked something that clearly disadvantaged Shafir and Bayne.

Kevin Knight defeating Darby wasn’t the upset I wanted to see on this show - I like Knight, but I don’t think he’s going to break out beyond the tag division unless his promo skills develop significantly. 

The lack of Brodido was disappointing too - they revitalised the tag division and deserved to appear on this show in some form. 

Statlander continues to be woeful on the mic. Make her the strong and silent type, Tony - you’re not playing to her strengths by getting her to talk this much. Treat her like a babyface Marina Shafir if you want this reign to work. 

Sound the alarm - an Eddie Kingston promo on Dynamite! There’s still something a bit off about him right now. Maybe he’s going to turn heel soon and it’s by design; maybe he’s taking out Shibata so that Hook can take his trios title back? If not, his whole demeanour right now is very strange. The Opps could really do with a motivated Eddie Kingston or some kinda spark to get going.

I want to finish on a positive, and that’s Mark Briscoe. I’d been critical of him recently, but that was a tremendous promo, and the kind of Briscoe we should have seen during the MJF feud. When he plays it serious, and drops the manic behaviour, he feels like a money player. I’d like to see more of this version of the character - it really worked well for him.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
AEW is just better during Continental Classic season. I love that it automatically adds all this purpose and stakes to even the most random matches. Show flew by.

Highlight of the show by millions of miles was that fantastic Moxley promo, shot after he lost at the pay per view. Hilariously doing push ups, pacing up and down, telling everyone he wasn’t mad, so please don’t put in the newspaper that he was mad, arguing he didn’t even want to win anyway, actually, and the real quiz was who went to the hospital, not won the match.

All while the Death Riders look on, their once proud, invincible leader crumbling in front of their eyes. All whilst on a meta level every last one of them looks on the brink of corpsing. Garcia in particular looked ready to burst. A tremendous bit of business. Mox is so funny what he needs to be and all this character development has been a joy to watch. I was completely on the hook for his match and actually felt relief and happiness for him when he managed to get the win. Babyface turn already has momentum. I can’t wait to see where it goes.

Garcia is on the verge of his breakout year. I didn’t really rate him up until recently, but his mannerisms and body language is among the best in the business right now, his promos feel real and he just generally feels like a real fighter. He has an intensity about him that you just can’t teach.

Hangman and Swerve teaming up to fight The Opps is pretty fun but I just can't help thinking if they had held off Hangman dropping the title and had him drop the title to Okada instead this story would have been way better. Also would have made more sense considering in story terms Okada was the one who injured Swerve.

Okada would have been a fresh new Champion and a makeshift babyface super team of Hangman, Swerve, a babyface Takeshita and Kenny Omega (and even a returning Will Ospreay perhaps) teaming up to fight off The Don Callis Family would have been fucking great with years of intertwining storylines to play off.

100% this - and a match with Page, Swerve, Omega and The Bucks teaming up to take out a collection of them would have been immense. It would have given them the chance to run one hell of a payoff to the Takeshita/Okada story too.

The Elite melodrama is Bloodline levels of overstaying its welcome, but if Kenny Omega has to wind his career down by working limited dates and multi-man matches, a reunion with The Bucks isn’t the worst idea in the world. Rod and Todd can certainly carry the load in terms of action.

If Omega vs. the Don Callis Family ever actually ends (it’s giving Seth vs. Punk a run for its money!), I’d like to see them eventually backing Hangman up against The Opps. Wouldn’t mind Kenny and The Bucks reclaiming the Trios belts, actually. That’s the most those belts ever meant.

Swerve and Hangman teaming up is magical stuff. One of the best things in pro-wrestling, when huge rivals eventually join forces. It’s enough for me to partially forgive them for taking the belt from the Chanpion of the Fucking World.

There’s still time for Swerve to go to Hangman’s house for Christmas this year. God bless us, everyone.

Lovely promo from Mark Briscoe. Definite contender for babyface of the year.

Whilst I’m happy Eddie Kingston is getting featured more, I’ll never get over taking one of the greatest promos of all time and giving him the character of, “DM me babes, I don’t want to talk about it.”

Toni Storm vs. Jon Moxley is a genuine dream match. Book it, you cowards!
