Kfogg1991 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Okay thank you guys for genuinely explaining it it now makes slightly more sense it's crazy how this works compared to MMA. I'm hoping we do get a few finishes firstly as a casual fan it's most exciting and also gives potential for a slightly earlier window for the main. I'm working tonight so I'll be watching on my phone on the stage while Djaying a club night plus with that free Bev's for it haha Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 If anyone was robbed last night it was Dave Allen. My love of boxing corresponds negatively with the level of debate about and coverage of 'robberies' afterwards. Today, I do not love boxing. Usyk won. Everyone just shut up. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted December 22, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 22, 2024 Not been on social media much since last night but I didnt see much in the way of robbery talk in the immediate aftermath. More people having a dig at Fury and Warren for their swewed view on how the fight actually played out. Quote

More people having a dig at Fury and Warren for their swewed view on how the fight actually played out. I'm not necessarily saying the overwhelming view is it was a robbery, just that the newsy talking point is 'Fury says it was a robbery', which is equally depressing to me. Usyk won. Fairly comfortably I thought, but he won like an Olympian would when their opponent is taller, bigger and stronger; he tapped him up throughout the fight, scoring points and winning rounds. One of the reasons I've never loved THE BIG FIGHTS, is because it brings out a type of fan who don't really like boxing. They like fighting and boxing is the best proxy for that. And they're the people Fury and Uncle Frank, consciously or not, are playing to currently. The people who see the eye catching shots and the forward pressure and assume that always wins. It's just a shame, as Usyk is generationally impressive and that's all anyone should be talking about. Funny that in accepting Dubois' challenge, Usyk looked past every major promoter in the game and asked Uncle Turki to set up the fight. He knows. Edited December 22, 2024 by d-d-d-dAz Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted December 22, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) The Dubois thing was abit odd, it felt properly out of character and felt like bad timing interrupting a post-fight interview of a guy as respectful and humble as Usyk. It felt like someone pushed Daniel into the shot and he just had to go with it. Not to mention that Dubois already has a fight scheduled for February. As for the fight, Sergio Mora summed it up on commentary when he said something along the lines of "as soon as Fury tries to get anything going, Usyk takes it right back" and that's exactly how I saw it. I didn't actively score it but my general feeling was that Usyk had won by at least 3 rounds. The actual card was really good, lots of fights went long but there wasn't a bad fight all night on the main portion of the card. Who would have guessed the main talking point would be Dave Allen being robbed of a big victory. I felt for the big lug, he at least deserved a draw. Fisher/Allen 2 may be a big fight to do over here now, which would be at least be a silver lining for Allen. I didn't see this coming, he old man'd Fisher. Allen beat the piss out of him in close. And im not sure how the AI thing works, but this how that thing scored it: Edited December 22, 2024 by Egg Shen Quote
NeverYield Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Yeah, again, Tyson didn't give a bad account of himself at all, he threw some eye catching work but Usyk held his shape and was there all the way, he had an answer for everything and the more point scoring shots and cleaner work came from him aswell. I think Tyson was a bit better than last time out, but Usyk is just too good, again I felt by the end that you just cannot trap Usyk down, there were moments when Tyson did try and use his size against Uysk and it didn't have the desired effect at all, and give or take a couple, Usyk finished every round strong, they love to see that in championship fights. Tim Healys Chutney Spoon Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 One of the commentators summed up big fights for me 'the fights are trying not to lose, rather than trying to win'. I'd love to see more fights like Dubois v AJ when Dubois just went for broke and kept pounding on AJ who was running for his life seemingly Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted December 22, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 22, 2024 Nah, AJ got knocked out because he went for broke. You make bad decisions at a high level and the results can be devastating. Usyk/Fury was never gonna be a slugfest. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted December 22, 2024 Author Paid Members Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) Yeah, no controversy for me. Fury obviously had pockets of success but I had Usyk winning quite clearly. Felt like he was landing more in almost every round as well as the more eye catching stuff a lot of the time and, like Egg says, whenever Fury would look like he was gonna get something going, Usyk usually had an answer for it. I’d have to watch it back but live I thought Fury probably got 4 or 5 rounds max. Was in no way a robbery. And the thing is, you know if the roles were reversed and the judges only gave Usyk 4 rounds and Tyson won, you wouldn’t have heard the commentators and pundits moaning about the scores being too wide then. It’s just sour grapes because so many of the experts were picking Fury to win and it went the other way on the night. Plus, if there was gonna be corruption and a “robbery”, why would they rob Fury? Usyk going 2-0 was the worst outcome for the people who stand to make money off these guys. There’s a decent chance Usyk retires now and that’s that. Had Fury won, it would’ve opened up the trilogy decider and you would’ve still had Fury vs AJ. If they were gonna rob anyone, it would’ve made more sense to rob Usyk. And I really thought they were going to. As soon as that 12th round finished and we were going to the cards, I had a bad feeling we were about to witness some fuckery. I was well happy when I heard Buffer say “the winner…and STILL UNDEFEATED…”. Old Turki looked like he was about to throw up though. He should never take up Poker because even with the silly sunglasses on the look on his face said it all. Now we get ready for weeks on end of Frank Warren raging about this ‘injustice’ to anyone with a camera and microphone handy. I don’t know what it was like on other platforms but I watched on TNT and I thought the commentary was awful in its bias towards Fury. If you just listened to that and didn’t actually see what was happening you’d have thought Fury was dogwalking him. Even when Usyk would land a flurry of quality punches, they’d begrudgingly acknowledge it then just start banging on about how Fury was “still keeping the centre of the ring though” or they’d just ignore Usyk’s offence altogether. Loved this answer from him about what’s next… Also loved that, after a monster win like this, he spent a big chunk of his post-fight interview in the ring just talking about his sons winning their Judo competition earlier in the day and talking about how much his wife helped him. Genuinely hope he retires. He could stick around for the Dubois rematch and I wouldn’t be shocked if he does. But I hope he retires. At 37, you don’t wanna tempt fate by keep taking that “one more fight”. There’ll always be someone emerging who he can fight but you’ve got to stop somewhere and now seems as perfect a time as any. Go out at the absolute top. Undisputed Cruiserweight, Undisputed Heavyweight, undefeated, 2-0 over Fury, 2-0 over Joshua etc. I’d love to see him call it a day now before he starts looking old in there. Get that one last win over Father Time on the way out. Enjoyed most of the undercard. I rarely ever call a fight an actual robbery but Dave Allen got mugged there. I’ve never really bought into the Fisher hype but I still thought this would be a bit of a mismatch and Allen was in for a hiding. It was a fun scrap in the end, way better to watch than I expected. Allen got shafted though. Oh and Moses Itauma wasn’t fucking about was he? Another demolition job. Still a lot of unanswered questions but, at 19 years old, you can’t fault him so far. Paid Members ReturnOfTheMack Posted December 22, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 22, 2024 I thought Usyk had it by a solid 2 points, and that was with me being a bit generous to Fury. The Allen fight was a stormer, but I did have Fisher just squeeking it out. Quote

Paid Members Carbomb Posted December 22, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 22, 2024 I have to admit to being a bit surprised at the idea that Usyk should retire; it looked to me like he's still in at least the later stages of his prime. I'd have thought people would want to see him against Parker, Wilder, or Zhang. Sure, he's most likely to win, so there probably wouldn't be much to it, but this is HW, so there's always room for random occurrences. Quote
