Hmmm, I didn’t like Bloodborne, but I’m pretty good at parrying in Elden Ring. That description suggests it might be more my kind of game. I wish there was a demo so I could be certain, but I may take a chance on it. I’m a bit surprised by how expensive it still is, though. Quote

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to respond again to say, I REALLY like Sekiro. Maybe it just fits my play-style, but so far I’m actually liking it more than Elden Ring. The grappling hook gives a sense of freedom and flexibility that I didn’t expect, and the maps - although not open world - feel more focused, and give you the ability to explore and experiment without ever having to wander aimlessly (so far, at least). Stealth is much better in the game, and it’s super satisfying to use the grappling hook to hide somewhere strategic, only to pounce out of the shadows to finish off a foe. Or, alternatively, to escape when you realise you’ve bitten off more than you can chew. The combat wasn’t what I expected- there are similarities with Elden Ring for sure, but you can only dodge certain atttacks in specific ways, meaning the combat has an almost rhythm game quality to it. And it’s fast and frantic, like one long adrenaline rush. I find it exciting rather than tense, which is how Elden Ring left me feeling. I might feel differently upon completion but for me, so far, I think I might prefer this game. Edited September 22, 2024 by RedTwoster Quote
Merzbow Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 (edited) That new Elden Ring sounds awfully close to being a live service game or something like Metal Gear Survive, I'm already not the biggest fan of where that game took the Souls formula and this seems to be going even further away from it. It'll sell millions, we're never getting a slow paced claustrophobic title inspired by ancient western RPGs again.. I'm just a bitter purist that craves for more Demons Souls. To be fair, we've had it. Four times. I'm not sure we need another. Maybe I'm a cock-eyed optimist, but I reckon they still do weird stuff in the future. Quote
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted December 13, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 13, 2024 Not jazzed about this. I don't want to play with other people Quote
Merzbow Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I feel like if Sony buy them then there's more chance? That deal seems to be going ahead. I'd actually be surprised if Miyazaki is working on this new title, there's likely a whole another game also in development. Both the amazing Armoured Core 6 and Elden Ring were in development at the same time which is wild. Quote

Merzbow Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 Yeah I hadn't even heard of any leaks about a new IP from them, I'm guessing it's not Bloodborne because they don't actually own the rights to it. Quote
Dr. Alan Grant Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 I was adamant that I wouldn’t buy Elden Ring on another console having played it to death on PS5. But then they had to go and call it a “Tarnished Edition” to make it seem like I have to. The pricks. Quote
Merzbow Posted May 23, 2025 Posted May 23, 2025 Alex Garland is making an Elden Ring film for A24... what the hell? That just seems like such a strange mix but I'm here for it, especially if it ends up being some pretentious mess. Quote
Dr. Alan Grant Posted May 23, 2025 Posted May 23, 2025 It would be fitting if you died whilst watching it and had to go back to the beginning and try again. And again. And again. And again. Quote
Awards Moderator Onyx2 Posted May 28, 2025 Author Awards Moderator Posted May 28, 2025 (edited) Nightreign releases this week. Anyone up for it? I'm not convinced yet - really not my sort of genre and the lack of two player mode is staggering. Will watch a few streams first to see if it works for me. Edited May 28, 2025 by Onyx2 Quote
Merzbow Posted May 28, 2025 Posted May 28, 2025 It's a hard pass from me so far, I like Elden Ring but it drifted a little too far from what I love about Soulsbornes as it is and this is much further. I hope it's good for people who want it though and not another Metal Gear Survive. Quote
Dr. Alan Grant Posted June 2, 2025 Posted June 2, 2025 Did anyone bother getting Nightreign? I’m in two minds whether to buy it, as I much prefer solo play than teaming up with some randoms. Quote
